A lot of nations already have moderately accurate units (I'm staring at you, Incas and Aztecs), but in Southeast Asia, soldiers didn't wear bulky lamellar armor like the Chinese and Mongolians, and a lot were chest-naked! They would mostly have these big "necklaces" around their necks, as carvings suggest, while mostly having cloth as legwear. Also, maybe a few more special decisions and missions? Obviously I'd ask for more Majapahit decisions (including one that grants claims on all previous territories), but also for others in the region. Well, if you release a DLC like this, I would definitely buy it. Will you make a DLC for this? Hopefully, thank you.

Good point. While "big" nations/regions like Ming, Manchu and Japan have their own units, less distinct cultures in EU4 oftens ends up with what we call "generic" units, which is our attenpt at capturing hundres of years and thousands of miles worth of culture in one single sprite. As I'm sure you understand, this is quite a feat... xD We often have to go what most people would recognise as, for instance, "Asian", or "Southern American" style wise. So the terracotta-army and late ming dynasty warriors in a mix is a pretty obvious inspiration here, although, I'd admit, not 100 accurate maybe.

I for one would love to give that region of Asia more love too, we'll see what happens in the future. Meanwhile, I'd just like to point out that the Ayutthaya atleast have their own unique units! : D

Sure. It's just that... Southeast Asia should have their own generic graphical category, separate from the Chinese graphical category. They're different enough from China, and they are quite similar in the bare-chested, single-piece cloth legwear (what we'd call "Sarung" or "Sarong"), and random bling on the arms and neck, so I think the area is worthy of their own unit DLC. While you want Ayutthaya to have unique units, I'll also want Majapahit to have unique units! :D. Well, maybe not... Or maybe? What's important is, they would have Keris as their weapons, but their clothes should be the same as the rest of Southeast Asia. I did wish there could be an event or mission that could grant claims on Aceh, Malacca, Brunei and Makassar, and maybe even cores on some colonies. (I like to think of the colonies as tiny fragmented kingdoms, like historically what they were).

I agree, and good ideas too. Feel free to post more about this in this thread, if you got suggestions or pictures. I can't ofc comment or promise anything about this but, let's just say that if stuff get made, it's always good to have material to work with : )

Well, I did make these in my rather-discontinued AAR:

King Wikramawardhana seated upon his throne.

A Majapahit soldier from the early 13th century

An incredible amount of things. Incredibly useful.

Weapons:
Keris Stabbing weapon, used by Javanese kingdoms and also Malacca. Since they vary in size, make one that's as big as a short sword. Try using the default spear animation if it isn't too weird.
Rencong&Badik Acehnese and Makassari weapons, respectively. Since they look similar, you could make an abstraction of them. If it's too much variation, revert to Keris. It's a Malayan weapon anyhow...
Cambodian Weapons Taken directly from source: Cambodian Arms. 1. hand-spear; 2. sword; 3. 4. 5. 6. 9. white arms of different forms; 7. javelin; 8. trident; 1. poignard.
It seems that the rest of Southeast Asia uses katana-like weapons... but you guys like spears, so use spears.

From all of these it's easy to say that a generic Southeast Asian model consists of a bare chest, a cloth or shorts for the legs, LOTS of gold bling everywhere (necklaces, armbands, leg-bracelets, belts, wrist-bracelets). That "gold" bling can be colored to each faction, also the clothing pieces. The biggest difference is headgear and weaponry. Muslims introduced light clothing though, so Muslim nations such as Makassar and Aceh should have light clothing and Muslim headgear like Turbans, actually probably similar to Indian units. The Siamese have ELEPHANTS! But they have cavalry too, so ignore that.

In all, Southeast Asian soldiers are similar enough yet distinct enough to have their own DLC.

Also, I feel honored that someone from up there in the heavens is checking this thread out.

Removed some of the quote to not make it too long, it's not that I ignored it! xD Thanks for all the links, saving them down, if we're doing something like this in the future!
I'm as happy as you to talk a bit about this, seeing the fans engage in the product is so rewarding a guy like me who've been involved in the development! : D

SEA in EU3 had samurai sprites, just like Japan. It definately would be plausible to have the kind of units BrawijayaV provided instead.

@Lando_Viggo

Sorry to be off-topic here, but do you guys also happen to be responsible for the coats of arms design? If so, I had a few suggestions concerning it, if I may.

wow...I just hope there can be a Chinese guy who can draw like you...

I still thought the diversity was pretty good. I noticed that Indochina has totally different models compared to China for instance. But yeah, DLC like this is something I'd actually welcome, as it gives people who are really interested in special regions a way to increase their immersion. Also, gief culture based UI DLC.

Sorry, we're only responsible for the 3D : / But I know a lot of people from the studio check these boards, so that one might reach it goal still : )=

I'd love to see this DLC become reality! The Indonesian Archipelago is one of the most fun areas to play in and try and keep the Europeans (My ancestors :p) out!

A slight sidenote: I am really impressed by some of the models in the game. In EUIII I never bothered zooming in on battles but I find myself doing so quite often in EUIV just to look at the gorgeous models.

Oh, the whole GAME is gorgeous! It's a shame to play on political mapmode, because you'll miss out on the absolute beauty of it!

Yeah, EUIV looks great indeed. Occasionally I find myself just staring at the map and sprites and admiring everything.

How long do you think a DLC like this would take to develop?
Can't say, totally depends on the scope of such a project : O Graphics generally takes 3-4 days per character thou, depending one how advanced it is (let's just say the Samurai took more time than the African tribesman : P)

Oh, us tropical people... Never bothering to wear clothes :p. Yeah, that's an important tidbit, and you very well know it, since you made everyone in the tropical regions wear minimal clothing, or so they should have... Meanwhile, I'll try finding more Southeast Asians with muskets, and drawing some relatively-plausible ones. Weapon models are separate from character models, right?
