Status Report

The Russian Federation is the largest country in the world with an area of 17 million square kilometers. In 20 March 2003, USA invades Iraq to overthrow the dictatorial regime of Saddam. The Russian government issues a direct condemnation of the invasion with president Vladimir Putin saying: "If we allow international law to be replaced by the law of the fist, then one of the main principles of international law, the principle of the inviolability of the sovereignty of states, will be thrown into question"
Also, the former USSR leader, Mikhail Gorbachev called the U.S. action "an attempt to teach a lesson to all other states and shows that the U.S. administration is trying to make the world its own province."

By April 20, US and British forces in Iraq occupy Iraq and declare that the operation was a complete sucsess.

Following the invasion of Iraq by US forces, the 3 most influential states that condemned the invasion, Russia, Germany and France create the axis Paris-Berlin-Moscow, a diplomatic alliance against US imperialism.

In January 5, 2004, the Russian Navy sells the old aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov to India for a price of 2.35 billion dollars. The ship was renamed INS Vikramaditya. This deal improves Russian-Indian diplomatic relations and defence cooperation.

The Georgian presidential elections of 2004 esult in a victory of Mikheil Saakashvili, leader of the United National Movement, he secured 96% of the votes. The results of the elections are not well received in Moskow since Saakashvili is not pro-russian and could put an end to good diplomatic relations.
And this happens in January 5 when the Georgian government revokes military access of the russian armed forces.

Russia intensifies it's weapons export towards countries in the Middle East, Africa and Indochina to increase the revenues. This move was very criticised by USA and EU.

2004 Russian Presidential Elections

In March 15, the russian presidential elections came up, the 2 main candidates were Vladimir Putin of the United Russia party and Nikolay Kharitonov of the Communist Party of Russia (Agrarian Party of Russia was merged into CPR structure)

Wow, I found an actual DH MDS AAR! Great start, I'll follow it. Also, interesting choice with Communist electoral takeover. Does this mean restoration of USSR? And if does, will it be only Red facade for modern Russian empire or rise of new ideological bloc? It would be also interesting to see Chinese political reactions. Maybe they'd join the dance and restaure ideological rivalry with the West, maybe they'll simply ignore everything or maybe another great ideological rivalry between two communist-lead superpowers is on the way?

In June 26, 2006, talks start between Lybia and Russia about a nuclear weapons programme cooperation. The russian government accepts and sends a team of specialists to provide support to the lybian WMD research and development institute. USA condemns Russia for prviding this support to an islamic dictatorship.

August 15, 2008, USA and Israel declare war on Iran to dimantle their WMD program. Even though Iran is in a bad strategic position, being faced by US forces from the east (Afghanistan) and west (Iraq), the Iranian Army is now stronger than ever after the Russians provided and still provide large quantities of modern equipment in exchange of iranian oil.
The Iranian Army expected an invasion to happen and created defensive and offensive plans on US-Israeli forces

Operation Uragan

August 21, 2008, Georgian Armed Forces launch several attacks into South Osetia, a region under the protection of the Russian government. This was the perfect excuse to launch an invasion of Georgia.

-HQ
-5th Guards Tank Division
-2nd Guards Mechanized Division
-27th Guards Mechanized Division

--106th Guards Airborne Division

The Russian Ground Forces deployed 126000 men, 512 main battle tanks, 2048 infantry fighting vehicles and 848 artillery systems. A massive invasion force for such a small country, but the reason for this is that the Russian Federation wants to show the world that is a superpower.

Supporting the ground invasion are 2 fighter and 2 tactical strike divisions of the Russian Air Force, a total of 80 Su-27 fighters and 80 Su-24 strike aircrafts.

The offensive is launched during the night of August 21 when russian aircraft, artillery and tactical ballistic missile units start to bomb Georgian military targets. The intense bombardment is followed by the russian mechanized forces and airborne troops landing in the Georgian rear areas.

This is very dangerous world! The events that started in similar fashion as IOTL have evolved with much greater magnitude, and entire states are being removed from the world map! Since Syria was occupied and Libya rejected full normalization of relations with the West (for diffrence from IOTL), maybe Russians should open new naval base in Libya for compensation? This way, Libya comes back to Russian sphere of influence and with Algeria already being good Russian strategic partner, this would significantly strenghten Russian influence in North Africa for sure.

The latest events in Caucasus worried the European Union, the baltic states, members of the EU and NATO, were now threatened by Russian expansionism. President Kharitonov announced his claims on Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and stated that if a diplomatic way of solving this problem is not found then military options are to be considered. This statement completely breaks the EU-Russian diplomatic relations as both sides start to develop plans of military action against each other.

October 8, 2008, a fundamentalist revolution in Jordan overthrows the monarchy. King Abdullah II and his family are killed by islamist paramilitary forces. Many believe that Iran is behind this revolution since there are proofs that the iranian government funded fundamentalist groups in Jordan.

The British-Argentinian negotiation on the Falklands/Maldive islands go bad, British diplomats refuse any argentinian claim or payment of compensations and leave the negotiation table. This leads to Argentina to launch attacks on the British naval units stationed in the Falklands on November 22, puting the two states in a state of war. The US states its support of the United kingdom but will not involve itself military in this conflict..

In November 18, 2008, USA and Israel have no other option than to start peace negotiations with Iran. After a week of negotiations Iran, USA and Israel agreed to pull out the troops from the occupied areas. But as Israel refused to end their occupation of Lebanon and Syria, Iran refused to end its war on Sausi Arabia, thus leaving this conflict in a questionable armistice.

December 12, 2008, Republic of China declares its independence from the People's Republic of China. This events leads the way to a future war as several PRC government officials stated that RoC will be wipped out of the map for this.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation

On December 21, 2008, the Russian Federations joins the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, but not as a simple member, it joins as a Co-Leader of the most powerful military bloc in the world. SCO's influence engulfs the entire Asian continent.
SCO is currently made of the 3 most powerful communist nations in the world, Russia, China, Vietnam and a non-communist nation Pakistan.
Pakistan joined SCO as a security measure against Indian claims on its territory.

January 16, 2009, the Turkish governement falls after a coup d'etat led by Ergenkon kemailst ultra-nationalists. High rank military commanders and politicians were found to members of this group. The military swiftly occupies Ankara and Istambul, taking control over the state.

By February 19, 2009, Iran crushes Saudi Arabia and annexes the territory. King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz is extracted by US special forces and taken to USA.
An empire is rising in the Middle East, now that Saudi Arabia has been eliminated, the other states of the peninsula fall under the Iranian sphere of influence, thus completely ending the oil export from the Middle East to USA.

Russian forces mobilizing on the borders of EU???

200, but the nuclear warfare is turned off in MDS, so I can't use them.
Myeah. Forgot about that.
You could use them when you'll lose some of your core provinces ... I think.
That should be modified in misc.txt

In April a secret meeting of the SCO leaders takes place somwhere in Russia. Nikolay Kharitonov, Hu Jintao, Asif Ali Zardari and Nguyen Minh Triet met to talk about the coming storm. Hu Jintao wanted to use military action against Republic of China for their declaration of independence, Kharitinov agreed that something has to be done, and knows that this will trigger a chain of events that will probably start the World War 3.
Kharitinov wanted Europe, expanding Russian influence was the most important thing in his agenda, and the only way to do that was through warfare. The leader of Pakistan also called for an intervention against India, their arch enemy, but SCO wanted good relations with India.
The date was set on May 1, 2009 - the day when World War III will start.

The plan was pretty simple, Russian forces will launch a massive attack on the entire frontier with EU, the main objective is to reach Berlin, Kharitinov believes that if Berlin falls, the rest of EU nations will sue for peace. China will strike at the Republic of China and together with Pakistan. In case North Korea sees the oportunity to wage war against the South they will receive chinese aid and be integrated into the SCO.

Operation Triumf

Operation Triumf (eng. Triumph) is the code name for russian invasion of the European Union, being such an large scale plan, it was divided into 4 sub-operations: Operation Burya (invasion of Finland), Operation Uragan (Invasion of the Baltic states), Operation Kaskad (invasion of Poland) and Operation Navodneniye (invasion of Romania and the Balkans). Over 1.5 million men are about to cross into the European Union.

64nnmt.jpg

Operation Burya

The Karelian Front under the command of General Andrey Tretyak is assigned the mission to take Finland, Sweden and Norway, and if needed to stage an invasion of Denmark and Germany from the north.
The operational plan called for a main thrust through the middle of Finland to slice the country in two, followed by a southward drive towards Vaasa supported by russian forces that will attack from Vyborg.
If the conditions are favorable, the 1st Naval Infantry division in St. Petersburg is ready to land in Helsinki to take control of the Finnish capitol.

2r4k1nl.jpg

Operation Uragan

The Baltic Front under the command of General Anatoly Kvashnin will swiftly move to occupy Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania then re-deploy south to reinforce the Kaliningrad oblast and stage attacks on Poland.

axikhi.jpg

Operation Kaskad

The Belarusian Front under the command of General Arkady Bakhin will punch through the borders of Poland with 7 Mechanized Corps. Army High Command believes that in this part of the theatre of operations will be the most reinforced by EU troops, so hard fighting will take place in Poland.

2quklsi.jpg

Operation Navodneniye

The Ukrainian Front under the command of General Alexander Galkin will be assigned to invade Romania. The military planners developed a two pronged attack towards Bucharest, one striking through Northern Dobruja and the other one through Romanian Moldova.

At 5 in the morning, on May 4, the Russian Army starts it's offensive accros the entire front. Thousands of self propelled guns and rocket launchers start firing on such a massive bombardment mission that hasn't been seen from the end of the World War II.
Russian Air Force take control of 500 km of EU airspace, attacking enemy airfields and hunting down fighters that take off. 18 battles are fougt in the first day of the invasion, all of them ending in victory for the russians.

Armoured columns driving towards Poland

China starts it's air operations against RoC and starts to send troops towards Europe to reinforce the invasion.

In 5 days, the Baltic states are overrun by russian forces and surrender. Polish forces succeded for a short time to encircle the russian troops in Kaliningrad by taking Sovetsk (Tilsit), but are counter-attacked by a large russian armoured forces coming down from Lithuania and are forced to retreat.

As expected, France, Germany, Spain and Czech Republic send a large amount of troops into Poland, stalling the offensive Opearation Kaskad. EU forces succeed in forming a strong defensive line in Byalistok and Lomza but General Kvashnin comes with a cunning plan to completely anihilate the EU forces in Poland and reach the german border with one decesive offensive.
