Thread: Modern Age Mod for Heart of Darkness

  1. #141
So does changing the end date have any negative repercussions?

  2. #142
The game will start to get bizarre (think tech balance, nations are meant to be kept behind or they'd be too strong have the time to catch up; nations that prioritize tech will see that become useless as others reach them) and it tends to get a bit laggier, but other than that it's all good.

Just discovered this! (Thanks to some screenshots on Steam Community)

So if I download the main file on the first post of this thread I should be good? Or are there some hotfixes that are not included in that main file yet?

Thanks and keep up the great work!

You can use ExtraNoise's (here and here) and Deskchair's (though there's a missing bracket in one of his event files and I don't know the effects of this yet).

So far, this looks very promising. I downloaded it recently to give it a whirl, and the new UI seems like it gives it a very good immersion. I look forward to watching the progress on this.

I played a quick game with Denmark yesterday. One thing which annoyed me was the lack of modern population and modern parties. i decided to use some time to fix it. I'm almost done with Denmark's population and parties. I will post my changes when I'm done.

When I played I noticed some bugs (Don't know if it's WAD):

Hungary has core on province 2533 (Targu Mures) in the middle of Rumania.
China, India and Kuwait is uncivilzed nations.

I also thought about ideologies, events and United Nations:

What about a green ideology which wants to preserve the environment. Their ultimate government should be Grassroot Democracy (Only allowing green parties).
Social-Liberalism which is a combination of liberalism and socialism. They want both social and liberal reforms.
Then I thought of events regarding global warming and cybercrime. Global warming events should increase green party popularity, and increase consciousness.
The United Nations could represented though country modifiers and events. A country modifier which lowers the infamy limit. If a nation then goes to war it should receive events about sanctions, which decreases prestige.

This is some of my ideas, and I could possibly implement some of them by myself.

On this, perhaps there could be a 'war indemnities' type system- going to war means you can either be kicked out of the UN or lose all of your tariff income. The longer the war goes on, the higher your tariff limit gets (forcing you to put tariffs at 10, 20 etc %) so that all of your factories close down. This could simulate trade restrictions (such as the one NK has at the moment).

I believe the reason why there is a core there is because of the Székelys, a subgroup of the Hungarians, that live there.

Not sure if tariff limit can be set through events, but maybe they can with country modifiers.

Also there could be a way to fabricate (with like spy events) to allow you to declare war without UN repercussions

On the list of things to come, where does pop adjustment/nationality adjustment place?

I just got the "final" (might not be final) version of the pop builder tool back from a friend and I'm going to start pumping out updated pops for the mod. Hopefully we'll have everything updated in the next few days/a week or so.

Edit: Some thoughts on pops (Scyhtlyr, anyone else?):

I'm thinking about changing "Texan" to "Latino" but not adding any other new cultures in. I know we could break down the new US with a ton more, but this way we keep the same number.

I was discussing this mod in the Something Awful forum thread and it was suggested that we change the "Slave" pop to "Service" instead, basically creating a whole new group of people who provide a lot of output but are the lowest of the low-wealth classes. They would have voting rights changed, of course. It was suggested as such because while Slaves still exist today, they aren't in the same capacity or intent the base game was built with. By Victoria's rules, no nation in the world today would have any slaves as all nations recognize that it is illegal. That doesn't actually stop slavery entirely, but it also limits how it would function in the game.

Thoughts on adding a "Service" class pop to replace Slaves?

I like the Latino idea, but not the Slave->Service one. I would rather remove slaves entirely from the game. Considering their social role today, a service pop would most likely be where the victorian craftsman is and, with few exceptions, very far from the one slaves had. If a service pop is to be add, it shouldn't be replacing them.

    Okay!

I mentioned earlier that a friend and I were working on this, but it finally exists and works so I wanted to show it off:

It's a Victoria 2 population generator. Just input the culture, religion, and total population (then decide if it's 'urban' or 'rural') and copy/paste the results into the pop file for that territory. You can add as many entries as you want.

I don't have permission to release this yet, but I'm hoping that will come soon. Any suggestions/comments I should make before then?

Looks great. If you plan on releasing it, and you get the permission, maybe make it possible to specify a custom preset. Maybe add a "Copy to clipboard" button.

When you add pops into the game, which number do you divide the real world population with? 4 seams like what paradox did with vanilla.

I'm using 10 for the MAM.

    The tool looks amazing.
A single note: Since this should work with vanilla as well, it should have an entry for slaves (set to 0 when doing MAM pops).

I'm thinking of releasing a new version with the hotfixes from both Deskchair and ExtraNoise, plus some work I made myself, at most on August 1st.
What do you guys think of this interface I made? Should I roll it back to Vic's one or keep it?

Personally I like the default V2 interface. Idk maybe it's just because it's a screenshot but the interface looks... forced.
