The Ottoman Empire would like to hereby recognize the Confederate States of America as a sovereign and independent nation. While it is saddening to watch a glorious beacon of liberty like the United States of America be shattered by infighting and treachery, the Ottoman Empire is glad that years of bloodshed have ended, and that the sons and husbands of each respective side can begin to heal and recover.

The Confederate States of America
Deo Vindice

Without the introduction of many lauded national leaders - those that claim to be the most eloquent of this age - I stand before a nation of people so dedicated and so Grand that any words I may deliver to express my pride for them all would be in vain to the highest degree. Still, I shall try my hand at explaining just what has occurred for this nation and all her People.

The four-year struggle - that gruesome conflict, the war for our Confederate independence - has finally come to an end. With Mr. Lincoln's leaving office and the ascendancy of current President Thaddeus Stevens, reason has returned to the White House - or, rather, in Philadelphia. With it, the Federal Government witnessed the severity that the war posed to the stability of the United States, and how close the Confederate Army was to capturing Philadelphia. Under the watchful eyes of the Swiss Confederation in Bern, Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin signed, with American President Thaddeus Stevens, the means to peace for both of our nations: the Treaty of Peace and Recognition.

Within that treaty we have laid to rest the remains of our territorial claims on the territories and states of the United States; no more is Maryland a state within this Confederacy, but it is now another state within the Union. The rest of the border states shall not receive statehood within this Confederacy either; the eleven States and Commonwealths that compose this Confederacy, along with all territories thereby bound, shall be the make-up of this nation. No more, no less.

Even further still discussed was the trade of prisoners of War that were secured during the bloody conflict that we have just ended. Federal troops captured from the surrender of the Army of the Potomac in Washington, the Army of the Cumberland just outside of Richmond, and the Army of the United States at Hanover Junction, shall all be sent back home to their families and their country; they have been treated humanely and with honor and dignity. Their fight for their homes and families, still, was not that different from the fight that many of you took part in: a fight for your homes, your families, and your nation.

The establishment of a treaty of non-aggression between the United States and the Confederate States ensures that no wars of unification or territorial expansion may be fought on the part of either of our governments - thank God for such a thing - and that war between our two nations shall, for the time being, be postponed. We have bore witness to too much destruction and loss of life during this gruesome war, and I intend for it to be the only war which this Confederacy shall fight during my term in office. Thus it is so that I officially demobilize the Confederate States Military. Those that were recruited as conscripts in this war may now go home to their wives and children; no greater gift is yet deserved by those that serve.

The sacrifice that many thousands of brave Confederate men-in-gray made shall never be forgotten; it is indeed such a good thing that war is so terrible, otherwise we would grow too fond of it. The sacrifices of those that participated at both Chattanoogas, at the first siege of Washington and at the second, at Sharpsburg, at the siege of Richmond, on the waters of the Potomac, at Vicksburg, at Baton Rouge, at Perryville, at Kennesaw Mountain, and at so many other great battles of that War, shall be honored as the great Confederates that they were. We mourn their passing, and we celebrate their lives, and their dedication to the wondrous cause of independence and self-determination. All veterans of that war deserve to be remembered, and it shall be my duty to keep them in my heart, as it shall be yours to keep them in yours. The efforts of General Lee, General Jackson, General Longstreet, General Magruder, General Johnston, General Cleburne, General Forrest, General Hill, Admiral Buchanan, and so many others shall go down in the annals of military history as some of the greatest military achievements in history. We shall not forget General Albert S. Johnston, either; his dedication to the cause of Confederate freedom led the Army of Tennessee to great victories near Paducah, Perryville, and Chattanooga, but he would sadly not live to see his dream of Confederate liberty realized. He shall be immortalized - as all Confederate veterans, living and buried - should be.

The great flag of this Nation - that has so represented freedom, dedication, honor, and civil liberties - shall be changed yet again, to the final version that you all see before me. This is a flag that is as representative of this Confederacy that could possibly be drawn upon. The white background symbolizes purity and good-will, as this nation has been founded upon such values. The red stripe at the right represents the blood of those lost in the struggle for independence; those who gave some, or all, for their homes and their nation. The thirteen stars are possibly the most important of all: each star is for a state within this Confederacy. There is a star for the Commonwealth of Virginia, the State of Alabama, the State of Arkansas, the State of Florida, the State of Georgia, the State of Louisiana, the State of Mississippi, the State of North Carolina, the State of South Carolina, the State of Texas, and the State of Tennessee. The twelfth star is for our Confederacy - such a noble institution that has finally gained its rightful place among the recognized nations of the world, such an idea as self-determination and liberty that all good People should fight for - and the final thirteenth is for all those that fought for this Nation's independence. Those that suffered and died in the heat of battle, those that were captured and imprisoned as prisoners of War, and all those that contributed even the smallest bit to the war effort are represented by that one star. It is only just that they earn their place on the flag of this Confederacy.

Lastly, it has come to my attention that this Nation lacks a national anthem. The anthem of a nation is a song to rally behind in times of struggle; it is something to remind us of our heritage, and our rightfully needed pride as a nation. Every nation is in possession of one. Thus, it is with great honor that I name Dixie the official anthem of the Confederate States of America.

And it is thus that I am finished. Go, now, with peace in your minds and fervent love in your hearts, for all men, neighbors, and this Nation that we have all striven successfully to create.

God save the Confederacy, and God bless the People of the Confederate States.

~ Jefferson Finis Davis, President of the Confederate States of America

Glory be to Italia, for we have truly proven our greatness! Another jewel has been seized for the Italian crown. The colony of Italian East Africa shall truly provide for us, as God has provided for us.

We are exceedingly happy that the War in America has ended. Now trade and goodwill can flow between the borders, and advance the cause of man.

We are disappointed that the Sultanate of Aceh would go to the lowly Dutch over the mighty Italian Empire. However it is accepted.

Venezia is finally ours! For a small price, Italia has regained it's last homeland from the Austrian Empire. The Reconquest of Italy is nearly over.

Viva il Regno Italia

The Hungarian War of Independence

As the cold January winds whipped through the streets of the city of Pest, passionate speeches began in the Hungarian Diet, calling for a separation from the Austrian Empire. They claimed a vast and wide series of injustices committed against them by the Austrians, and even looked across the waves, citing the Confederate States of America in her struggle for independence against the United States. Even more so, the passions of 1848 were once again stirred up, calling for greater Hungarian action, Independence, from the Austrian Empire. For too long they had been subjugated. It had to, and would, end. By a nearly unanimous vote, the Hungarian Parliament voted to secede from the Austrian Empire, calling the taxes placed upon them "Unjust" and the rule of Wien causing an economic downturn stronger than anything that has hit Hungary in the past.

The Kingdom of Hungary, as they styled themselves, with Ferenc Deák as Regent of the nation, declared full Independence from the Austrian Crown on January 25th, 1865. The first of motions they made was to declare that tariffs in the nation were to be set at a simple ten per cent, and taxes were to be lowered extraordinarily. These simple moves brought the population around to their side, and quickly, they were able to gain effective control over all of the Kingdom of Hungary. Hungarians in the Imperial Austrian Army defected by the thousands, forming the core of the Hungarian Army, ready to try and defend the nation.

Ferenc Deák, Regent of the Kingdom of Hungary

The Imperial Army, even suffering from the massive wave of Hungarians leaving the army, was placed under the command of Field Marshal Heinrich von Heß, and he soon began, with the intention, of moving towards the City of Pest, and demanding it's subjugation and annexation back into the Austrian Empire. Order was first restored to Pressburg, and some of the surrounding areas, before the Imperial Army began to move into Hungary proper. At the same time, a detachment of the Imperial Army lead by Edmund, Prince of Schwarzenberg, began to move through the rest of northern Hungary, before coming into an open conflict with the Hungarian forces.

Outside the town of Ödenburg, the Hungarian Army waited for the advancing Imperial Army, which they meet on April 19th of 1865. Historians would look back upon this battle, and mostly blame the arrogance of Field Marshal von Heß to recognise the Hungarians as a true threat. He moved his army into, and through the city, sure to make a large parade out of the whole ordeal, in order to show the strength of the Imperial Army, matched by none.

The Hungarians, however, were waiting on the outskirts of town, waiting for the right opportunity. This came when the Imperial Army was marching, once again, showing off their regalia to the people of the Hungarian countryside. The roar of the cannons ripped through the area, smashing a few regiments as they paraded past the Field Marshal. The rest came, charging into the lines of the Austrians, many of whom were not even carrying that much ammunition, until the centre line folded and collapsed in on itself. The Imperial Army quickly turned around, and pursued the Hungarians. They seemed to have won the day until, as luck would have it for the Hungarians, the Austrians ran out of ammunition, and were forced to retreat. The call was sounded to the shock of the Field Marshal, who demanded to know why such a call was made. He was plainly told, "You didn't give anyone more than ten rounds."

The Imperial Army retreating from the Battle of Ödenburg

As the shock of the Hungarian victory at the Battle of Ödenburg set into the Austrian populace, the Imperial Government was reeling from the massive upset in the balance. Government finances, with the loss of the Hungarian Tax Base, they once again took a nose dive into the Red. Something had to be done, first of all, to maintain government solvency, and then to crush the rebellion by the Hungarians. Attempts to pass the Equal Representation Act, in a bid to win over the Croatians, Transylvania, and Slavs inside Hungary, does not work at all, as no matter how much political freedom, however obscure it be, is offered, the actual, physical impact of being able to trade, and not be taxed at an extremely high rate, was far more appealing to the peoples that lived in Hungary.

The Kingdom of Hungary quickly went to work, sending ambassadors out to several European nations, hoping to gain their support, or at the very least, a recognition of their independence. Many of the nations of Europe had jumped to recognise the Confederate States, and special emphasis was put into Spain, France, and Prussia, in order to try and woo them to recognise, and support, the Kingdom of Hungary's assertion of independence from the Austrian Empire.

The Kingdom of Hannover congratulates both the USA and the CSA for the peace of Bearn, and hopes for a quick reconstruction of their respective nations and a fruitful post war era. We also recognize the CSA as a sovereign nation and invite them to establish diplomatic relation with the Kingdom of Hannover.

On the issue of the Hungarian uprising, we will reserve our oppinion until the matter has been fully studied by our Foreign Office.

The Hungarian people have suffered under the Austrian Emperor, who has forced failed reform after failed reform onto the Hungarians. He has raised tariffs and has taxed them unfairly. The Hungarian people have thus justifiably responded by asserting that they ought to be independent - and how has the Imperial government responded? They have responded with brute force - not unlike the brute force our Nation had to endure several years ago - by dispatching an army to violently quell the Hungarian attempts at independence.

The Hungarians rightly and ought to be free, and therefore, in the name of both President Davis and the whole of the Confederacy, we hereby recognize the inviolable sovereignty and independence of the Kingdom of Hungary. Hopefully His Serene Highness the Regent Ferenc rules his people justly and wisely. We wish them good-will and luck on the international stage, as well as their quest for uninterrupted independence.

The Kingdom of Hungary proposes talks with the Austrian Empire, to discuss the terms of our seperation. We hope that the events of Ödenburg have shown to the Imperial government the folly of attempting to force submission upon us. Hungary wishes for peace and friendship with all nations, including Austria, if they will respect our freedom and soverignty.

OOC: I've been offered Hungary, but I'm crazy busy for the next 48 hours or so, and have a lot of catching up to do re: Hungary and events of the game thus far.

The Great Caliph of the Sokoto Caliphate and Sultan of the Sokoto Sultanate Ahmad bin Atiku has heard of the splintering of a distant nation called the United States Of America has split in two. With a number of "states" splitting off to form the so called Confederate States of America. Apparently a large number of the People in this state are Africans who left Africa long ago to settle in this distant land called America. Though how much these two states make up of the American continent as well as the size of the American continent are as mysterious as other distant lands like China and India or even Europe. For a state to have such a large African or African descendant community as seems the case we stretch out a warm hand of friendship to such a state based on the back of our brethren. Reports are coming in suggesting great battles between Hundreds of thousands of men on both sides and mountains of dead littering battlefields. These Confederates seem to be led in at least some battles by Indian Chiefs or Cheefs the spelling seems uncertain but this is equally confusing. The last time we checked India was east of Mecca which is to the east of us but this America seems to be to our west which is strange considering the presence of Indians fighting for the Confederacy. While we extend our friendship to the CSA we are uncertain about were exactly any of this is going one.

We are glad to hear that peace has returned to the North American continent, but are sad to note that while the Northern Continent now has peace, the Southern Continent now has war. However, now is not the time for us to dwell on such matters, and the Argentine Republic hereby formally recognizes the Confederate States of America, as the fully sovereign nation that she is.

[x] Alexander II, His Imperial Majesty The Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias.
[x] Tokugawa Iemochi.

In regard to recent international events, the Russian Empire recognises the Confederate States of America as a sovereign state, and wishes them all the best in their future with their newfound independence. In addition to this, the Tsar looks at the volatile situations in Austria and within the German Confederation with dismay and hopes that these conflicts can be resolved with words, not war.

Closer to home, the good Tsar has been shocked by the actions of some internal creditors within the Empire, it is his hopes that any disagreements between the Tsar's government and these men can be fixed and Russia's financial relationship with them repaired. Elsewhere in the Empire, railroad track is being laid, as the Tsar's plans for the future begin to come together. The new rail link to Smolensk will enable the natural economic growth of the Empire and is a signal of more to come.

Sons and daughters of liberty,

for four years we fought with valor, honor and for liberty. Finally we have to admit though we did our best it was not enough. We should take that as a lesson and not as an open wound. It will leave a scar do not doubt that but it will make us stronger. After all we have proven that we will not let go without a fight. Men and women, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers stood up for freedom, for justice and for home. They stood up to fight. The fight is over now and despite the losses we won something from it. We forged a bond with each other, a bond stronger than anything before. The Confederates were desperate, they were willing to sacrifice everything. There is no honor in doing that. We already lost so much and such a victory would be even harder than this defeat. We had no choice in this. If we had get on again all but a wasteland would have been left.

Thus we made peace. We made peace out of concience. We made peace because despite everything we tried and stood for, the people in the south would sooner die than see reason. They would sooner die than see their children live, than embrace the founding principles of the United States of America. They want to live in darkness for eternity. They have chosen to either die or live eternally in a dead society. A society without progress, a thing of the past.

I will not lie to you: We took a terrible toll in this. We saw Washington lost and friends, and family dying. We saw the maws of madness closing on us. We saw the light of liberty, of justice waver. But it has not gone out. We may be battered, me may be bruised. We have lost much, but we are still alive. We are still strong. And thus we will rebuild. The Confederacy wants to live in the past. We should gift it to them. We should embrace the future though. We will be humbler than before, more cautious, but that is well in the eyes of God, well in the eyes of men. Pride feels shallow in the end, love, friendship and earnest work are better. That war might be a loss, but it had valuable lessons still. We might not be good, nor whole but we are wiser now. Therefor I hereby demobilize our forces. We will make a new start now, together.

I even dare to say this: We are the lucky ones. We died for the good of the whole Union, we fought for it, we stood for it. I pity the people in the Confederacy. They will live to regret these choices. But better to live and experience them than to be dead. The dead learn nothing anymore. We look into the future now, we look together and those who do not will one day which they did. As we are all God's people I hope they will get the chance to make the right wrong without many pains. But I fear they will not.

To the future, to liberty and to peace - but foremost to you, my brothers and sisters. It was and is and allways will be an honor!

Thaddeus Stevens, 17th President of the United States of America

Due to the decision by the King of Belgium to violate the country's neutrality that has been the foundation of the Treaty of London that established Belgian independence, Her Majesty's Government believes it may now an appropriate time to re-evaluate the position of the Kingdom of Belgium vis-a-vis other European nations.
