Been reading about the ladders 'problem' in forum and elsewhere. Is there any comparison to the old X-Com game where you had to be careful about placement of hangers in relation to the rest of the base when putting down rooms? Just curious.

Negative. See the Hangars in Xcom as the main entrance to the dungeon. Without ladders, heroes would come in through this entrance, as aliens would through the hangars. Ladders however, appear randomly throughout your dungeon. The idea is to have your roaming minions destroy the ladders before heroes can come down on them, or scramble around and destroy them using your squads. It's not so much a problem as it is a bit of a nuisance after a while.

The ladders is not completely random. It will always spawn at random in a small range of one of your room. It's the reason why (to be optimal)keeping the maximum of room in a row is the best solution most of the time.

But the ladder issue will be addressed in the next patch.

Hey gang, we're been discussing the two major talking points everyone seems to be having (ladders/heroes and eating) and in the next few days we will be implementing a few changes along with further stabilizing the multiplayer. We can't completely change these features as that may upset the majority out there that enjoy the game as it is (but don't post on the forums) or cause other problems with the game, but the changes will hopefully please y'all.
