Pure Madness 2: We couldn't decide on a subtitle

Welcome to Pure Madness 2: We couldn't decide on a subtitle (I wanted to go with "Totally not a sequel" to make it obvious that it's blatantly not a sequel at all; no Sir, not at all. Nope. I don't even know what you're talking about). This forum game format and its base was not created by me, but by the minds over at Alternate History dot Com. This is a sequel to the first Pure Madness, taking into account the lessons learnt there.

Introduction

For those used to the other forum gams around here such as World in Revolution, you will have to rethink a bit if you are going to join this game. This game is not about number crunching or "winning", but about roleplaying and having fun.

Now, what you do as a player is guide your own country. You determine what it shall do. Unlike World in Revolutions, this forum game is not order-based, but more based on the interactions of the players. You update your own stats sheet with the recent happenings in your nation, but keep in mind to be reasonable and realistic. For example, recruiting 24 million men as Switzerland will lead to the consequences that would happen if you did actually try that. Switzerland would most likely collapse if it tried to do that.

You are encouraged to play realistically-ish, and not powergame. Godmoding is looked down upon.

Application

When applying to join, please put three countries that you want to play, in order of preference. This is to avoid "first come, first served" issues. If people's claims conflict, then I'll just randomise it or choose the one who I deem the most appropriate to lead the conflicted country.

Warplans, Espionage and Tech

Conflicts are resolved by the players involved sending in their warplans. These are to be sent in to the War GM. You can send in one warplan each turn for every war that you are in.

Espionage orders can be used to meddle in someone else's country or other covert things. These are to be sent in to the Espionage GM.

When researching new technology, you must send in a tech request. These are to be sent in to the Tech GM.

Below is the format for tech requests.

Country/Nation Title:
Technology/Small Arms/Vehicle/Aircraft/Etc. Name:
Specifications:
Funding:
Why Is This Necessary?
Firm/Company/Scientist Name:

Tech and Espionage requests are limited to one per turn for each player.

Turn End

When a turn comes to an end, there is an update with the results of the actions of the countries during the turn, as well as other miscellaneous happenings. You can increase your chances of getting good results here by doing actions which would logically be good, such as successfully reacquiring Outer Manchuria from Russia as China. Likewise, you can also decrease your chances of getting good results by doing detrimental actions, such as Russia selling Outer Manchuria to China.

The Scenario

Now we come to the reason that this forum game is called Pure Madness. The map has been filled in by countries taken from all over history and alternate history and adjusted to the technology level in roughly 1914. Do note that many areas don't have an equal technology level.

Stats

Your stats are where you do things with your country. These are updated by the players for each new turn. Some research might be required to create the initial stats. For references in terms of population, using 1914 is a good estimate. Below is a mostly blank stats sheet, with some examples and information for each stat.

STARTING SCENARIO NOTES: We start in the year 0 A.E., A.E. Meaning After Event. The event refers to the displacing of nations from all across history and alternate history to this mad new world. As such, we start at the point when all of the countries appeared in this world. Internal reactions to this displacement can be ignored by players, or you could RP it. Feel free to do it your way.

LAST NOTES: Play reasonably and realistic-ish. Don't godmode.

Rules:
1. I reserve the right to reassign the nations of players who for whatever reason demonstrate that they are not going to be a productive player.
2. No Drama, have fun. We're all here for fun anyways.
3. Three consecutive missed turns + unresponsive to GM PMs = Removal from the game.
4. I reserve the right to refuse service (or major nations) to any player who has a history of being unreliable, immature, or just plain difficult to deal with.
5. No godmoding
6. Follow forum rules

List of Countries, ordered by continent (this list includes most playable countries, but not all of them due to how many there are)

Europe

Union of Great Britain, Ireland, Man, Brittany, Normandy, Nova Scotia, Falklands, New Zealand, and the Caribbean – The leading Syndicalist state of the world, and quite the power. It is well developed in most areas, though not as high tech as Jamtland. It makes up for it with its greater population. (Note: New Zealand is the name of the British holdings in Argentina. The New Zealand colony from our history never existed)
The Republic of Jamtland – Basically Scandinavia. Its capital is Östersund, located in the middle of the Scandinavian peninsula. Not that big of a population, though Vinland does boost numbers considerably to the point that they're a major power. In military matters, quality is a huge focus in both navy and army to make up for the lack of numbers. Well-developed infrastructure and industry, as well as good education and cutting edge technology allows it to punch quite far above its weight.
The Empire of Serbs, Romans, and Vlachs – The Eastern Roman Empire, revitalised through the conquests of the Serbian Emperor Stefan Dusan. In recent years, the army has been in a state of decay.
The Kingdom of Armenia – A highly diverse land, though majority christian. Its mountainous nature and river borders makes it quite defensible, helped by a competent military that knows how to fight in mountains. Over all, a solid power in the Middle East and Southern Russia.
The Grand Duchy of Estonia – An absolute monarchy in control of vast swathes of land, stretching from the Baltic Sea to Siberia, with its capital in Estonia. Focuses more on quantity than quality. Has a better navy than Lithuania.
The Grand Duchy of Lithuania – Another large absolute monarchy, controlling much of the Ukraine and Belarus. More industrialised than Estonia, but otherwise they're pretty evenly matched. As Estonia, it focuses more on quantity than quality.
The United Kingdom of Poland and Bohemia – The power in eastern Germany, with Prussia and Saxony as its puppets. Its army is pretty good, focusing on quality over quantity, but its navy is not quite as good. Infrastructure is well developed.
The Hungarian Empire – A powerful country with its capital at Budapest. The Hungarian Empire is a vast land with a good military and economy, though about as good at sea as the Austro-Hungarian Empie. Has a promise to the Papal State to intervene if they are attacked by the Southern Roman Empire.
Burgundy – A great trading and industrial power of western Europe. Despite its small size, it stands a good chance in a conflict against any of Europe's heavier powers such as Britain or Poland.
Grand Principality of Andorra – A regional power controlling Aragon, as well as large swathes of Occitania
Iberian Confederation – An Anarcho-Syndicalist confederation that aims to unify Iberia under its banner. Currently involved in the Castilian Civil War and in control of the Anarcho-Syndicalist faction there.
Grand Principality of Liechtenstein – A mountainous country with a competent military that excels at defence on land, but is not as good at sea.
Kingdom of Prussia (Polish vassal) – Poor agricultural country that is a vassal of Poland
Kingdom of Saxony (Polish vassal) – An industrialised and trade-oriented country that is a vassal of Poland
Kingdom of Bavaria – Possibly the only really powerful free German state
Free Territory of France – French anarchists
Kingdom of Navarre – A peaceful Basque country, though heavily armed in order to safe-guard its neutral status.
Kingdom of Castille-Leon (in civil war between: Monarchists, Republicans, and Anarcho-Syndicalists) – A shadow of its former self, the Kingdom of Castille and Leon is currently in a devastating three-way civil war.
Papal States – A theocratic state ruling most of the Italian peninsula that dislikes the Southern Roman Empire and wants it gone. Has the guarantee of Hungary against a possible Roman attack.
Electorate of Hessen – One of the more powerful German minor, though still a minor. It is not in the league of Bavaria and Prussia
Greatness of Ulm - Württemberg
Duchy of Baden
Duchy of Mecklenburg – A German minor, which drives a careful balancing act as it is wedged in between Prussia and Jamtland
[Other German minors]
Principality of Moldavia (Hungarian vassal) – Effectively a part of Hungary in all but name; it does not have much room for independent decisions

Africa

The Roman Empire – The Southern Roman Empire, based out of Carthage in North Africa. Possibly the most powerful power in the world. Its population is large, its economy thriving, and its military in excellent condition. However, for all its power, it is a huge country and can impossibly focus all of its powers on one foe. Furthermore, the Ilkhanate is powerful enough to serve as a blockage to Roman levantine expansion. Some internal problems are dawning at the moment, with some unruly Berber tribes from the deserts being...unruly, and religious disputes with the Ethiopians. Furthermore, the Papal States greatly dislike the Romans and want them gone from Italy. Unruly Arab tribes are causing trouble on the Empire's eastern borders as well.
Israel – An advanced industrial power in southern africa.
Zulu – The least powerful of the three southern african powers. However, they can punch well above their size and should not be underestimated, least of all in a land war.
Oceania – A totalitarian dystopia with a solid military and controlled population. However, its economy is not that exemplary, and its policy of constant war does not garner many friends.
Democratic Republic of Congo (isolationist) – Possibly one of the most powerful countries on Earth. However, due to its isolationism, pacifism, and the fact that most of its budget goes to researching medicine and improving internal matters, it does not have much influence on the world stage.
Tyrpoli – A totalitarian monarchy, run by Tyriant MCVII Tyriet, Lord of Tyrpoli, Defender of Tyranni, Rightful King of Bavaria, who rules from the capital of Eistyrpolin. It is fairly advanced, though mostly in military technology as well as measures to control the population.

Asia

The Ilkhanate – Just read up on actual history for this one
Song China – An inventive and forward thinking Chinese dynasty. They're primarily commercial based, which is a slight problem due to its vast inland territories which drains a lot of money to keep garrisoned.
Democratic People's Republic of Korea – A totalitarian de facto monarchy/theocracy combination with a military first policy and with no care to what the international community thinks.
Taungoo Empire – The premier power of Indochina
The Great Khanate (Mongolia) – Essentially a military with its own state
Sultanate of Delhi
Indian Federated Socialist Republic – A Trotskyist federal state in northern India
Tibet – An absolute monarchy under the rule of the Lamas
Nepal – Quite the powerful country in northern India
Hyderabad – A major Indian minor
Khmer Empire – Formerly a powerful country in Indochina, the Khmer have since refocused their priorities following multiple devastating defeats and are now more of a sea-faring nation than a land power
The Heavenly Shogunate – A catholic Japanese state, fighting the so-called "Great Crusade" with the Emirate of Nihon.
The Emirate of Nihon – A muslim Japanese state, fighting the so-called "Eternal Conflict" with the Heavenly Shogunate.
Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (Uzbekistan) – A piece of Stalinist USSR...mostly just the Uzbek SSR.
[Other Indian minors]
Emirate of Oman (Ilkhan vassal) – Essentially the Ilkhanate's naval arm
Kashmir (Mongol vassal) – A tolerant multicultural state that mostly pays tribute to the Mongols to avoid being overrun by the massive Mongolian military.

Americas

Federal Republic of Colombia – A federation of many former Spanish colonies, its name coming from that timeline's name for the Americas (in Spanish, that is).
Incan Empire – Does it need explanation?
Anthony van Diemen's Land – Dutch Brazil
Republic of George Washington - Theocratic Bourgeoisie dictatorship where the founder George Washington is revered as a god and is still the de jure leader despite being dead for about a century.
Sultanate of al-Amrikatayni – A former Moorish colony from a timeline where al-Andalus survived and colonised part of the Americas.
Empire of America (Louisiana) – Based out of New Orleans, the former French colony was founded by a French, monarchist George Washington.
Republic of Paraguay – A pretty militaristic country that would rather fight to the last man than surrender.
Union of the Communes of New England – Closely associated with Britain
Confederation of Wyoming – a confederation of settlers and native tribes
Republic of New Wales (Patagonia) – A Welsh colony in Patagonia

Oceania

Sultanate of Jakarta – Originally established in Jakarta, it eventually went to colonise Australia and New Zealand. The sole true power in Oceania/Indonesia, with an all-around decent military and economy
Hawai'i – A small island nation with an experienced – but small – navy.

Can I get more information on the Democratic Republic of Congo? Resources, tech level, population, education level, etc... Why are they "Possibly one of the most powerful countries on Earth."? I like the idea of an isolationist powerhouse.

1.Oceania.
2.Empire of America.
3. The Grand Duchy of Estonia.

GM: Here's a useful site for 1914 population statistics: http://populstat.info/
However, as said, 1914 stats are only a guideline, as any earlier tends to have a bit of a dearth in population statistics.

Congo is a highly advanced and well-educated nation of people. Population numbers are along the guideline date of 1914, except a slight bit higher due to no Leopold. They are "Possibly one of the most powerful countries on Earth." due to their industrial and technological prowess. While their military isn't the biggest or baddest thing around (because it's simply not needed), they're still incredibly competent and can throw down with the best of 'em.

1. Congo
2. Incan Empire
3. Sultanate of Jakarta

Edited after realizing that Sultanate of Jakarta and Oceania were two different things. LOL.

Kingdom of Hawai'i please

My take on the alternate history: This Hawai'i comes from a timeline where Hawai'i didn't become a dependancy of first the UK, then the US. Instead the kingdom was able to play off various imperial powers, benefiting from their investments and adopting many of their technologies. It became a prosperous mercantile and financial hub, though its industrial development was hampered by a lack of local sources of iron.

GM Note: The statistical part of your stats (or "almanac") isn't as important as some make it out to be, and mostly serves as a way to give a quick impression of a nation, so that the game doesn't float in a vacuum. You don't have to be super-accurate either or too descriptive. Stats can be much less complex than my example one. In particular the military part. I mean, if you - for example - don't have any idea at all of how your airforce is or any of its capabilities, just put "Unknown", or "small".

When will you confirm nation assignments?

When will you confirm nation assignments?

When I have enough available to make an informed choice as to how to distribute them. I intend to avoid a first-come-first-served approach that some other games around here have. Thus, probably sometime tomorrow (my time, of course, which is GMT+1 (or is it +2 now? I don't even know. Daylight savings...how I loathe thee))

Just checking in chaps, don't mind me!

We proudly present:

Population: 76 million
Motto: Finis coronat opus!
National Anthem: Dum spiro, spero!
Capital: Carthage (2,4 Mio.)
Largest City: Alexandria (almost 5 Mio.)

Domestic Events

- modernization of the Empire's infrastructure is under way
- the Imperial Council can't decide on a proper goal while the population is posed to fight for the status quo as wealth spread to more people in recent years
- an ongoing woman suffrage movement cripples the eastern part of the empire since the eastern provinces are far more conservative while the western already granted local voting rights thirteen years ago

Internal Problems:
- Citizenship law crisis: Unity is missing over the question if southern tribes may join as full citizens
- Disorder between conservative east and moderate west
- Properity reached Rome but some hawks in the Senat and Council push for expansion

Economic Status:
Thriving
- chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as machines and arms production flower but the research stagnates as east and west clash over domestic issues

Military
Army: almost one million men in the legions, thirty thousands in the pretorian guard
Navy: to be announced later
Air Force: in the beginnings, maybe a dozen experimental models
Current Deals: -
Diplomacy: -

((I might as well post the stats for the DPRK too.))

Domestic Events
- Kim Jong-un succeeds his father Kim Jong-il as the de facto and de jure leader of the DPRK
- Some economic reforms by Kim Jong-un, leading to slight improvements.
- Kim jong-un further solidifies his position.

Internal Problems:
- Repressive dictatorship
- Military first
- Ironically, the equipment of the military isn't the greatest, in no small part due to its overblown size.
- Lacks a few choice natural resources
- Not very developed
- Poor
- Possibly some internal dissent, though not according to official propaganda
- Japanese lands and minors
- Corruption and nepotism all over the place
- Civil rights? What civil rights?

Economic Status:
-Not too bad, but it could be better

Military

Army
Total number of personnel: 10,906,000
-Number of Active troops: 1,606,000

Navy:
Of decent size, capable of defending the lands of the DPRK. However, it is not the most advanced one, and has quite a few outdated and rusty ships in its arsenal.

Air Force:
Yeah...no. Maybe a few balloons, but...not much more.

Current Deals:
Um...let me get back to you on that one later.

Diplomacy:
Well...

((I know the military numbers are ridiculous, but look at wikipedia's listing...the DPRK has the biggest military in the world at the moment.))
