I was playing a game as Wales a while back before The Republic DLC came out. My goal was to conquer England and Brittany so my constant incursions prevented England from getting involved in Ireland. Once I accomplished my task I turned around to find that Munster was a republic and they had taken the whole island. It seemed like a really cool idea to play as a medieval Most Serene Republic of Ireland, but of course the save is from before the Republic DLC so I can't just jump into Munster on that one. The republican mechanics are still a little new to me so I was wondering if anyone had ideas on how I might start in Ireland and become a republic.

You can start as a Duke give away 2/3 of your duchy's counties to a mayor and grant him independence and send him around 200 gold through gifts. He will usurp your Duchy title and you wait one day and save. Then you can play as the republic. You can also give away one of your Duchy titles to a mayor and wait one day and save.
