WORLD IN CONFLICT

24mxgfd.jpg

Based on World in Conflict RTS game, this mod will take us back to 1990s, into alternate history in which Soviet Union attacks NATO in an effort to save itself. Entire world will have to choose between Communist East and Capitalist West. Only one side can win in this war, and will make new world order. All nations will fight in this world, world in conflict!

HISTORY OF THE MOD:
World in Conflict and Soviet Assault are some of the best strategy games out there. I played both multiple times and asked myself if there is more, it would be a shame to stop WW3 in Seattle. So that is how I got an idea to make this mod. That was long time ago, in January 2013. but soon I quit it because I was inexperienced and didn't know what to do. But as I started finding more and more tutorials and my wish to make this mod grew larger, I decided to resume or shall I say, start the work on it in 2014. I am working on the mod daily. Pre-alpha was released on 21st August 2014. After the initial release, I started working on the next version, for which I hoped it would be "alpha", but as more and more work was done, I realized that the jump between the versions is huge. That is why I decided to skip full alpha and go straight to the Beta version. Next version is "v0.5 Beta". It entered the Closed Beta testing on 6th December 2014, and was released on 1st January 2015. I decided, at that time, to quit from further development of this mod, as 1.04. patch came out. Bloomoonneptun decided to port this mod to the new patch, on which I thank him. I again decided to continue work on the mod, and currently version 1.06 is under development.

Storyline:

December 1988:
Driven to the brink of the economic ruin by the Cold War, The Soviet Union demands aid from the west. Americans accept to meet with Soviet leadership for negotiations in upcoming months.
With Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, China and Soviet Union restore diplomatic relations, first time in 30 years.

March 1989:
In Malta, Americans start negotiations, in which they demand that Iron Curtain be opened and elections held in all of Warsaw Pact countries. Soviet delegation, with Gorbachev in charge is furious and declines that offer. They offer to lower Soviet Armed Forces by 15% and nuclear arsenal by 20%.

April 1989:
As the negotiations drag on with no discernable end in sight, tensions rise along the Iron Curtain. Soviet high command orders the Army to start preparations for war. Build up of troops starts in Europe and in Central Asia. CIA warns US government of these developments but George H. W. Bush thinks its just another Soviet wargame.

May 1989:
No agreement can be found between the two delegations. Soviets try last card, when they threaten the US with a war if they don't accept. US delegation responds by walking out from the conference. Negotiations break down.
Soviet Army mobilizes, troops of Warsaw Pact are preparing for an attack on the Western Europe. Soviet Union and China improve relations, and China promises to aid USSR in the upcoming war.

June 1989:
On June 3 Warsaw Pact attacks the NATO Pact starting World War Three. West Berlin falls and Warsaw Pact troops make a swift assault on West Germany. NATO troops were caught off guard, and start to retreat through the front.
World reaction to the War is split. Socialist nations support the Warsaw Pact, while capitalists one support NATO. USA tries to isolate Soviet Union by opening more fronts.

July 1989:
First American troops arrive to Europe to try and hold the Soviets which conquer entire West Germany and start moving into Benelux. In Scandinavia, Finland is defeated while British help defend the rest of the peninsula.
Soviets attack East Turkey and Iran, attempting to connect with Iraqi forces which enter the war on side of USSR, just like Syria and Lebanon. NATO responds by calling British Commonwealth into the war on their side. Commonwealth stays neutral for now.

August 1989:
Cuba joins the war, supported by USSR and Nicaragua and takes Guantanamo, Bahamas and invades the neighboring islands. US troops prepare for a possible invasion in Florida, while navy blockades major Cuban ports. Soviets send some of their own troops to Cuba as a expeditionary force.
NATO troops from Portugal, Canada, Spain, Ireland and other free nations form a defensive line in Belgium. Holland is occupied by Warsaw Pact armies and the attack on Belgium starts. Until late August battles rage, but NATO troops stop and force Soviets into retreat. Then a counterattack takes place and disorganized Soviets are pushed back into Germany.
British Commonwealth joins the war and Asian front opens. Pakistan and India start a offensive into Afghanistan but Soviet troops from Iran come and halt them not far into the country. That front becomes less important as Indochina enters the war.
Bangladesh, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia all join Warsaw Pact and invade Thailand and Burma. Indian troops are rushed to the front and stabilize it.

September 1989:
NATO counterattack in Europe is stopped with Soviet reinforcements, not far into Germany. Both nations stop attacks and trench warfare takes over. Soviet leadership now aims of assaulting Italy and Greece as well as rest of Scandinavia. But still, the majority of troops are stationed in Germany.
Large Soviet attack is staged in northeast Iran, aiming to ease the pressure of Iraq and Afghanistan. They occupy the area, but large American forces arrive and defend Tehran.
Yugoslavia joins the war, with its leaders using the chance to expand. Yugoslav army aims of conquering northern Greece as well as Italian city of Trieste. Warsaw troops mass next to Greek border for an attack and occupy the north of country but are stopped by Greek and Italian troops.
Soviet troops land in southern France in an attempt to cut Italian Army off. Fresh American troops are brought to the area and they contain the Soviet attack and push them out in two weeks. Italian army suffered however and lost some territory with front being pushed to Venice.
NATO troops breach Soviet border in Murmansk area from Norway destroying part of nuclear submarines but are quickly pushed back into Norway.
Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Philippines and other Pacific nations join American side in the war, but other then economic aid, they don't intervene.

October 1989:
Muammar Gaddafi of Libya joins the war, hoping to expand into Sahara desert rich with oil. With Libya, Algeria joins the Warsaw Pact as well. That same day in Cairo Soviets stage a coup and overthrow pro-American government, and Egypt joins the war on Soviet side. Two nations start bombing Malta and NATO ships in the Mediterranean which leads NATO officials to close transit through it. All shipping will now have to go around Africa, which is at peace for now. Israel chooses to remain neutral in the fight as Egypt joins on Soviet side.
Large NATO assault in Afghanistan leads them to the gates of Kabul, but Afghan mobilization and Soviet reserves stop the attack. Sacrificing efforts in Iran, Soviets arrive to help their ally.
Austria is almost conquered with only its westernmost parts remaining in NATO hands. It is critical for NATO high command that Innsbruck does not fall, because if it does, Italy would be cut off from the rest of NATO troops.
In Scandinavian front, new Soviet attack on Sweden leads them 100km north of Stockholm, but Swedish and Norwegian troops hold the Soviet attack. Denmark is almost occupied by Warsaw Pact troops from Germany, and Soviet marines use the opportunity to take empty Stockholm and land in south Sweden aiming to secure the front.
Soviet high command comes up with a bold new plan- invasion of USA. The plan is to use civilian transport ships to sneak into Seattle and gain a beachhead. In order to execute the plan, Soviets try to confuse the Americans by invading New York Harbor and capture a lot of US equipment and three islands.
Spetsnaz commandos have a mission to hold as long as possible to disrupt American chain of command. Cuban armed forces also start preparations for invasion of Miami, but that is canceled 5 days later when intelligence reports of heavy defense lines in Florida. First US counterattack in New York is stopped but second is able to secure the area and Spetsnaz troops retreat to Cuba and then into Europe. Soviets also try to bring Nicaragua into war, but Daniel Ortega refuses saying that his nation is still not too strong to face Americans.
In Seattle Soviet ruse succeeds and Soviet Army lands in the city quickly taking it while the few troops US had in the area retreat. Soviets attack the surrounding areas and take territory to the Oregon by the coast. Americans are shocked by the invasion and President Bush orders the troops to fight to the last man. Guerrilla warfare starts in the occupied areas, which disrupts the Soviets.

November 1989:
Battle of Pine Valley, north of Portland ends in US victory and Soviet advance to California is stopped. Now, Soviets turn their attention east to the Rockies. US had a base in the town called Fort Teller, in eastern Washington where Soviets think Strategic Defense Initiative or the Star Wars Project are stationed, which defend USA from nuclear attacks. But that is just a scam, and Americans tried to stop the Soviets finding that out, because if they do, armageddon would take place.
In Europe, front is pretty stable.
Yemen joins the war on Soviet side, and Iraq attacks Kuwait again. Gulf Cooperation Council then joins the war on American side to stop the socialist advance, and manage to defeat Iraqi troops in Kuwait with NATO help. Using the chance, Iran attacks some areas in Southern Iraq. Syria starts fights with Jordan and Israel and Palestine remain the only neutral nations in the Middle East.
Commonwealth nations in Africa accidentally bomb Angolan convoy, thought to be a Soviet one and Angola declares war spreading a chain reaction of all socialist African countries joining Warsaw Pact thus opening African front. Western Africa mostly joins NATO, while North Africa joins Warsaw pact. Morocco, which has long dreamed of becoming a member of EU, joins NATO but comes under attack of Algeria and starts to lose ground. Spanish troops come to reinforce Moroccan army.
Japanese and Australian navies try to blockade Vladivostok port but are destroyed by Chinese navy which was patrolling the area. NATO reacts by asking China for neutrality which they confirm, saying the attack was an accident. Soviet Union sees a potential ally in China and starts negotiations with them.
Indonesian leader Suharto, who was a pro-American, decides to attack Papua New Guinea in a separate war. Americans try to find a diplomatic solution but Australia declares war on Indonesia, followed by UK and whole of NATO. Indonesia quickly secures north Borneo and invades some islands in the area. As a response, Japan and Australia counterattack securing couple of Indonesian islands and cutting their army in New Guinea off. Australians come to aid Papua New Guinea which is under heavy Indonesian attack.

December 1989:
North Korea declares war on South Korea and enters Soviet alliance thus resuming the Korean war. US troops try to defend Seoul as long as possible, and with fresh Japanese and Taiwanese troops the front is stabilized at 38th parallel.
USA urges mostly neutral South America to join NATO but they refuse.
In Africa, Warsaw members from the North attack southward into Kenya. Congo manages to take Gabon as Angola fights hard versus South Africa and DR Congo. In order to neutralize the threat of the Warsaw Pact members, NATO members in Africa (Ivory Coast, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia and Senegal) unite into Union of West African States (UWAS) and are soon joined by Cape Verde, Mali, Togo and Sao Tome. The capital of this Union is in Yamoussoukro.
Following the formation of MUWAS many other regional organizations start planing unification of several small nations in order to fight off the Soviets easier. Organizations that have expressed hopes of unification are Caribbean Community, Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and neutral Central American Integration System
Soviets prepare a large attack on Cascade Falls, a town in the Rockies only couple of kilometers from Fort Teller. Americans know that and aim at defending it no matter the cost.
Sino-Soviet negotiations end in China accepting to join the Warsaw Pact in Spring after it prepares its army for the war. A expeditionary force is gathered to be sent to American front as well. Indonesia gets an offer to join the Warsaw Pact which they accept, and Soviet Union now has a ally in the Pacific which they aim to use for invasion of Australia, once China joins the war.
NATO troops in India defeat Nepal and deploy next to Chinese border after the Vladivostok incident expecting their attack.
On 20. December Americans invade Panama in order to secure Panama canal from falling into enemy hands. Although Panama was not socialist they decide to join Warsaw pact so they have some sort of protection.
In Germany, Soviets continue attacks finally breaking NATO defense and capture Munich allowing Yugoslav army to prepare attack on Venice.

Great fucking game. I've actually thought that this game would make a great mod before.

I'd have loved to contribute to this, but I'm committed to real life. In any case, lots of luck! Sounds very promising.

YES! Really hope this mod works out. Sounds great

Thank you, It will be great. It may not come out very soon but it will come out

I'm not sure if it's dead or if it just went into hiding like RDD.

ALL of the mod devs are trolling us when we point out why they died saying that we should "have hope" or "faith".

If it's really dead, someone pm the modders to release the files.

Would you like to be added to the Mods Advertisement sticky? This is really cool and deserves decent exposure before it gets lost in the 1000 and something threads. Best of luck with it!

From the pictures in your sneak peaks, I'm getting a real Ace Combat feel! MiG 29 Fulcrum, F/A 18 Hornet, Hi24 Hind A10 Thunderbolt (aka 'Warthog') ooooh yeah!

This mod will feature something until now unseen; at the beginning of the war there will be historical two sides; NATO vs EASTERN BLOCK, and all other nations will be neutral. Then, EVERY NATION will get a two-choice event- JOIN NATO OR EASTERN BLOCK. That way, EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WILL BE IN WAR!!!!
AMAZING!!!!!!!

I just dropped the biggest poopy in my pants from excitement seeing this statement... What about Sweden though? They naturally love being neutral and have proven so in many conflicts.
