    [MOD] Alt-History: Code Geass Timeline

    Alt-History mod: Code Geass Timeline

    Submod of PDM

    What is the story?

This is an alt-history mod based on the popular PDM mod and the timeline from the Code Geass franchise, where the first major point of divergence is during the American Revolution. Benjamin Franklin is bribed by the English and fails to negotiate an alliance with France, causing the revolution to come to a bloody end during the battle of Yorktown. The next point of divergence is when democratic revolutions explode in western Europe around 1802. The British royal family flees to North America and forms a new country, leaving behind a crumbling colonial empire. Napoleon was killed before he could become Emperor, so the Holy Roman Empire still exists and Europe is stuck with the borders from the Treaty of Amiens. With Great Britain reduced to a husk of its former glory, France becomes the dominant military power in a Europe.

More details on changes from our timeline:

    The Americas:

    * Spain's colonies revolt as in OTL, including Cuba and Puerto Rico
    * Britannia exists where the US and Canada used to be at this point in OTL. US cores retained in the areas covered by the 13 colonies when the revolution occurred.
    * Britannia controls any Caribbean colonies that didn't revolt. I see this as denying the Europeans naval bases to invade Britannia, and could see this happening in the context of the Revolutionary Wave taking place in Europe.
    * When Britannia has researched Romanticism and has 80 prestige it can fire a decision that gives it cores in all of Canada and today's US, and gives it a free CB to conquer any nation with a capital in the Americas. This will allow Britannia to aggressively expand.
    * Life ratings in the British Columbia region reduced to prevent Russia from colonizing that area right away

    Europe:

    * France can become the European Union if it is a democracy and has researched Revolution & Counterrevolution. European democracies with good relations with France will join the EU.
    * France has a free CB it can use to turn a European nation into a democracy.
    * The UK is divided into its 4 component states
    * Spain and France have the capital ships that they historically lost at the Battle of Trafalgar added to their OOBs, so both nations will have a stronger naval presence.
    * Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Whales, Ireland, Scotland, and England are all democracies. If their ranks are below #8 then they start in France's sphere
    * France controls the French part of Switzerland and the entire left bank of the Rhine. France does not have cores in areas outside of today's France.
    * Norway is a puppet of Denmark (this is why Denmark's name on the map is in Norway)
    * Schleswig-Holstein controls Heligoland, but does not control Lauenburg
    * Hannover controls Lauenburg
    * Sweden controls Stralsund
    * The Holy Roman Empire was never dissolved, so all of the German states except Prussia are in Austria's SOI
    * Westphalia and eastern Rhineland independent and in Austria's SOI
    * West Galicia given to Austria, since Congress Poland never existed
    * Masovia and "East Prussia" given to Prussia, since Congress Poland never existed
    * Without the UK around to support it, Greece doesn't achieve independence

    Africa:

    * Liberia removed and life ratings reduced to prevent early colonization
    * Denmark gains the Gold Coast province
    * The Batavian Republic controls South Africa

    India:

    * All European pops and provinces removed and the appropriate successor states released. To me, this represents the resulting fallout of the complete collapse of order given that the British fleet was destroyed and the surviving ships fled to Britannia, leaving the East India Company stranded in India without support. Since the Maratha Empire hadn't fallen yet, it could act as a banner to rally behind as the Indians threw out the Europeans. This also serves a gameplay-mechanic. If Goa, Pondicherry, and perhaps a few English concessions were left, the Europeans would get free CBs and take over India, which is what China should be doing.
    * Denmark gains Andaman Islands, since it originally owned them prior to the Napoleonic Wars.

    Australia:

    * Australia is independent and has an immigration attraction bonus

    East Asia:

    * China's capital is now Luoyang
    * China's territory is expanded
    * China has a special CB that allows it to freely attack Asian nations and turn them into vassal states
    * The Batavian Republic have been removed from the parts of Indonesia they took after the Napoleonic wars ended in our timeline

    What to expect gameplay-wise?

When the mod starts, you will find a slightly altered world from our own in 1836. The United States is gone, replaced by the oppressive Holy Britannian Empire consisting of the USA's former territory plus Canada and the British Empire's former Caribbean colonies. In Europe, France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and a balkanized Britain are democracies looking to spread the revolution east, while the monarchies of central and eastern Europe are on the verge of being embroiled in their own liberal revolutions. In Spain, Carlist monarchists are fighting a losing battle against modernity. India is once again fractured into small princely states with the Maratha Empire recovering from its earlier defeats at the hands of the British East India Company. Meanwhile, Australia is now an independent nation free from the English Crown. Finally, China's Han dynasty has ruled in an unbroken line since its foundation, which has led to a stable, powerful nation that has been outclassed in technology by the West.

From a balance perspective, the goal of the mod is that the AI if left alone will result in a world with:

    1) Britannia conquering all of North and South America and makes advances into the Pacific
    2) Europe colonizing all of Africa and Turkey
    3) France forcing all European nations to become democracies and forming the EU super-nation
    3) China annexing Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and India
    4) Japan modernizing and beginning to colonize the Pacific
    5) Australia remaining independent
    6) the Middle Eastern Federation forms out of Arabia, the Levant, Iraq, and Western/Southern Iran.

Ideally, by 1935 only the following nations should exist if the game is entirely run by the AI: Britannia, the EU, the Chinese Federation, the Middle Eastern Federation, Japan, and Australia. During the pre-dreadnought era, France (or the EU if France is lucky) should be the dominant country in the game, followed by Britannia. China should quickly grab the #3 spot after it civilizes.

This mod is essentially the same as regular PDM when it comes to events. The Ottoman Empire will still fight Egypt during the Oriental Crisis, the Crimean War will most likely happen as well, etc. The Scramble for Africa will still occur in the early 1880s, and Japan will still need to go through the Boshin War to modernize. The main difference will be in North America, where you will see a new nation attempt to claim the New World for itself and all of the social problems such a conquest will bring.

Feedback for the latest version starts at this post: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...1#post16653202. Please note that the mod is not finished and is a work-in-progress. See the "What do I still have left to do" section below to see what planned features are not available.

What did I change from PDM?

    Code:
    Changelog

    V2.3:
*Italy, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Transcaucasia, Yugoslavia, and the Baltic Union can't be formed by the EU anymore
*Created a Neuostpreußen region out of Prussia's new easternmost holdings
    *Renamed Masovia to Südpreußen
*A lot of database fixes to fix PDM bugs and disable PDM events that are out of context. This item is a WIP and isn't finished
*Added OOBs for countries that start with no units
*Fixed a bug where some of the new countries didn't have techs
*Added forts along the German/French/Dutch borders
*Lowered the RP gain from 100% to 75% for Idealism, Empiricism, and Analytic Philosophy techs
*Changed Britannia's color so it's not so close a shade of red as England's color
*Changed the Ottoman Empire's color to be the same as vanilla
    *Changed Tunis's color
*Britannia now controls the French and Dutch colonies in South America
*Removed Denmark from France's SOI for gameplay reasons
*Added torpedo attack to torpedo-related inventions for subs and monitors/destroyers. I guess PDM forgot about that feature. The values are a WIP.

    V2.2:
*Fixed the rest of the colonial provinces that were colonies in 1.8 but not in 2.1
*Changed British pops in Guyana to Britannian and Anglo-American
    *Fixed South Carolina's name
    *Rewrote the bookmark text
*Rewrote the French and Britannian intro decision text
    *Added intro decision for China
    *Cleaned up some typos
*Neuchatel goes back to Switzerland for gameplay reasons
    *Rhineland and Westphalia independent
*All of the German states except for Prussia are in Austria's SoI to represent the Holy Roman Empire
*West Galicia given to Austria, since Congress Poland never existed
*Masovia and "East Prussia" given to Prussia, since Congress Poland never existed
    *Removed the Intensive Farming event
    *Merged PDM 3.06's RGO changes
*Added more impassable borders between Piedmonte and France

    V2.1:

*Added a new title screen. It's pretty fuzzy and I don't like the Japanese text, so I'm looking for a replacement picture.
*Changed borders in continental Europe to reflect results of Treaty of Amiens
--South Africa is now a colony of the Netherlands
--The Netherlands is now a democratic French puppet state, renamed the Batavian Republic
--NGF and SGF dissolved back into their component states
    --Venetia goes back to Austria
--Tuscany, Sardinia, and Papal States released and in Austria's sphere
--Italy split up into several smaller French vassal republics
--France has annexed Piedmonte, but not Liguria
--Repurposed the Sardinia-Piedmonte nation to Ligurian Republic
--Repurposed Lombardy to the Cisalpine Republic
*The USA has Anglo-Canadian as its primary culture, so it can form out of a nationalist rebellion
*Soldiers are now middle-class pops, and officers are now rich pops
*Australia's western states are now colonies
*The NGF can form if any of the north German states are at war with France
*Fixed colonial provinces that were colonies in 1.8, but were not in 2.0

    V2.0:

*Merged most of 1.8 into PDM 3.0.4. Chinese events were not merged, but they were bugged in 1.8 anyway
*Added Spanish ships lost in Battle of Trafalgar to Spanish OOB
*Added French ships lost in Battle of Trafalgar to French OOB
*Adjusted farmer, laborer, and craftsmen promotion to soldier rate to keep the overall soldier ratio down to roughly 4% of the total population

    V1.8:

*Fixed France's sphere, which got lost during the merge in V1.7
*Changed British, Yankee, Dixie, and Anglo-Canadian pops that start in Britannia to a new Anglo-American culture
*Removed Liberia and lowered the life rating of its former territory to 15
*Merged the German states into the NGF and SGF
*Britannia has 100 relations with NGF, SGF, Austria, Turkey, and Russia, since those nations hate France about as much as Britannia does
*Moved 90% of Britain's aristocrats, capitalists, and officers to Britannia, to represent their flight to the colonies, as well as the likely executions of those who couldn't leave
*Fixed Britannian state names that got lost during the merge in V1.7
*Gave Greece to the Ottomans, but did not award TUR cores to the areas that rebelled.
*Added a line of forts on the German and Dutch side of the French border

    V1.7

*Merged with final APD version. It's quite possible that some of the previous changes below got lost
*Made Britannians be much more conservative
*Made Lanfang be a Chinese puppet
    *Removed UK cores
*Moved the Channel Islands to Normandie region
    *Added Impspy's India improvement suggestions
    **Made Bengal Sunni
**Removed the Sikh core on Simla and gave it a Nepali one
**Rajputani is a puppet of the Marathas
**The Mughals have Avandi as primary and Punjabi as accepted only
**The formerly British parts of Burma are now full states.
**Burma and Nepal start with Foreign Training methods (to allow them to mobilize)
**Foreign Training methods removed from Bengal.

    V1.6:

*Lowered Geass research bonus to 75%
*Increased Britannia's relations with Prussia, Austria, and Russia to 100
*Added Naturalization to Britannia's political concession decision, since that's essentially what the Honorary Britannian system is - a way for anyone to become a citizen.
*Made Britannian Pops (or rather, pops that are likely to be Britannian; might affect Russians too) in Britannia far less liberal and more reactionary. Please give me feedback on this; I'll be watching out for it too during my test games. Did I over do it?
*Britannia has cores on all of its starting territory
*Changed the cores that get awarded to Britannia when it fires its Imperial Destiny decision. It now gets cores on the the Caribbean, Canada, and the western US.
*Added USA cores where the 13 colonies were
*Reduced the likelyhood of pops migrating to Australia
*Increased chances of pops migrating to South Africa
*UK dissolved into England, Wales and Scotland, and the starting army is split between them. UK cores retained.
*At some point France's decision that allows it to spread democracy got lost. Put it back in the mod.
*HMS governments can now join the EU
*China now has a free CB to make nations with a capital in Asia become their puppet
*Expanded China's borders to match the real claimed borders during the time period. China now has Sakhalin and its western border has been extended to Lake Balkhash. The new borders aren't perfect, but are as close as I can get.
*Added a tag, flags, and country file for the Chinese Federation. They currently aren't being used
*Fixed a typo in the SGF and NGF formation events
*Norway is now a puppet of Denmark rather than Sweden. Looks funny on the map, but the only fix is to have Denmark own Norway, which I don't think represents their relationship very well.
*Gave Danes Andaman Islands and Cape Coast
    *Gave Heligoland to Schleswig-Holstein
*Reworked the Indian states as per Impspy's suggestions
*Decolonized Dutch Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra
    *Gave Ionian Islands to Greece

    V1.5:

    *Updated to APD 3.2.6
*Monitors and cruisers now provide military score
    *Removed colonial provinces from India
    *Removed European pops in India
*Reduced Britannia's political concession decision requirement from 8 down to 4
*Made the Honorary Britannian effect be permanent as long as Britannia is a real monarchy. Becoming an HM government removes the effect.
*Made the Taiping Rebellion and related events account for the fact the Manchu aren't in power anymore
*Removed Chinese cores from Inner and Outer Mongolia, Manchuria, Qinghai, and Xinjiang.
*NGF can form early if Prussia is attacked by France
*SGF can form early if Baden, Würtemburg, or Bavaria is attacked by France
*European democracies that are outside of France's sphere are much more likely to refuse to join the EU if their relations with France are below 150
    *Netherlands is now a democracy
*Raised France's liferating up to 35
*Increased liferating of western North America to 30
*Added the Maratha Empire to India, using its 1805 borders. It exists since the UK wasn't around to bully it into submission.
*Made it easier to form India

    V1.4:

*Removed the colonial status of Ireland's states. This is a leftover from the base APD mod files
*Kicked Portugal and France out of India for balance reasons
*Gibraltar is no longer a colony
*Changed Philadelphia back to its original name
*Pushed back the tech requirement to form the EU. The earliest it can now form is 1870.
    *Haiti is independent again
*Spring of Nations occurs in 1838, 10 years earlier than normal
*Louisiana and Texas are now part of Britannia for balance reasons
*Added a semi-permanent "Geass" effect to Britannia that lowers pop militancy and consciousness by 2% and increases research rate by 100% (to offset low literacy) as long as Britannia is either an Absolute Monarchy or Prussian Constitutionalist state. The goal is to calm things down without going overboard and making Britannia be immune to internal strife.
*Added a decision where if Britannia's average militancy is 8.00 or higher then it can fire a "Liberalism" decision. This adds Landed Voting, no slavery, and Gerrymandering political reforms, increases the assimilation rate for 10 years by 10%, and does a one-time drop of MIL and CON by 6 for all pops.
*Gave China a few more starting techs. It now starts the scenario at 50% westernization.
*Added cores to all of China's territory.
*Added a cheat event (# 99000) for you cheaters out there :) It can only be fired through the console.

    v1.3:

    *Gave Haiti to France
*Abolished slavery for the European democracies
*Changed Australia's primary culture to Australian. Changed British pops in the country to be Australian
*Changed name of Washington province to Annapolis
*Changed Philadelphia to Pendragon. If someone has any ideas as to where the capital Pendragon should go then please let me know. For now it's Philadelphia, though it looks like Phoenix might be the real location, which will require a "move the capital" event to be made.
*Added a decision, where if the HBE either owns the state of Louisiana or controls 4 different cities in the territory AND has fired the Imperial Destiny decision it can grab the territory from France, and if it's in a war the war will end. Will need to add French reaction event.
    *Created the EU nation
*Added a decision for France to form the EU after it researches Nationalism & Imperialism. For the EU to form, the 7 starting democracies have to still be democratic; they'll get a reaction event where they can either join the union or remain independent. The chance for these AI nations to remain independent is 25%. Then, any other democracy in Europe will get an event that asks whether they want to join the EU or not; chance to stay independent is 33%. The EU will then get cores in every province in Europe, so if a nation doesn't want to join the EU can forcefully incorporate it.
*Added decisions for the EU to accept certain non-French cultures within its borders. These are a work in progress.
*Removed some New World events from the HBE, like "Open Door"

    v1.2:

*Updated the base files to APD 3.2.5
*increased relations amongst France, Portugal, Spain, Britain, and Belgium, and created alliances with France. The AI will likely break the alliances
*changed Trail of Tears to not add Cherokee as an accepted culture
*removed Texas and gave the land to Mexico
*gave the Louisiana territory to France and adjusted Britannia's Pacific borders. Also adjusted liferatings in that area to prevent further colonization
*updated Imperial Destiny decision to add cores on Louisiana territory and French Canada
*Ireland is independent and ENG cores are removed
*Most of northern Italy is now the democratic nation of Italy
*Australia and South Africa now have techs
*Adjusted Britannia's pops so farmers, labourers, and craftsmen are now the culture they would've been in APD 3.2.5. All Yankee, Dixie, Anglo-Canadian, & British soldier, middle, and upper class pops are of the Britannian culture
*Louisiana pops left alone until I decide what to do with the French colony

    v1.1:

*Fixed the typo that prevented Texas from being annexed by Britannia
    *Removed the Boer War events
*Gave France a CB it can use to install democracy on any nation in Europe for no infamy. A decision sets a flag for France that allows it to use the CB
*Deleted some British ships and factories. Great Britain's industrial score was cut to a third of its base value.
*Fixed Spain's and Portugal's starting political reforms
*Gave St. Pierre & Miquelon to the HBE
*Changed some Anglo-Canadian holdouts in Caribou to be Britannian
*Removed New Zealand from the game start
*South Africa now starts with two states and no colonies
    *Australia is now a democracy
    *Australia begins with 2 states
*Added a Manifest Destiny type decision for Britannia. Romanticism and 80 prestige are required for the decision to fire, adds Britannian cores to the "American West", and the decision allows the HBE to use a CB that it can use to take states from any American nation or annex single-state American countries for no infamy.
*Added British as an accepted culture for the HBE

    v1.0:

*USA, Canada, and British Caribbean is now the Holy Britannian Empire
**The HBE is an oppressive absolute monarchy. Don't expect to get a lot of immigrants, though you will still get more than an oppressive nation would normally get since the country is in the Americas
*The HBE has the Military-Industiral Complex technology group
*Yankee, Dixie, Texan, British, and Anglo-American pops in the HBE are now the Britannian culture
*The HBE can intervene in the War of Texan Independence, and if it has friendly relations with Texas then Texas may join the empire (note, this is bugged right now; see post #3 for a fix)
*Great Britain, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, and France are democracies of varying quality
*Great Britain's empire is dissolved, and the nation exists only on the British Isles. Prestige, the navy, and the army have been dropped considerably. Industry remains the same for now
    **Heligoland now belongs to Denmark
    **Malta is independent
    **Gibraltar belongs to Spain
**All other releasable nations are released
**Islands that have no country can now be colonized by any great or secondary power
*The French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Dutch are now the only western colonial powers in Africa and Asia. With the UK gone, France and Portugal currently have a bad habit of starting colonial wars in India they can't win; not sure what to do there other than remove their concessions.
*China's capital has been moved to Luoyang. A few cosmetic changes were made, like renaming Huaiqing to Zhengzhou
*Beifaren is now China's primary culture. Nanfaren is an accepted culture. Aside from lowering stability issues and improving the army's quality through access of better units, this means China's average literacy is now about 4.5% instead of 1%, which will speed up research a bit.
*The Kowloon Incident now fires for France instead of Britain.

What do I still have left to do?

*Change the title screen to not be the one from PDM
*Need to create new flags for the HBE to account for communist, fascist, and democratic takeovers
*Cleanup the starting OOB for the HBE and adjust ship names in the country files
*Change the Great Game's participants to be Russia and China
*Rework the starting borders in Europe to reflect the points of divergence
*Add more decisions to add accepted cultures to the EU. Fix localization and picture for existing ones
*Adjust the Chinese warlord era events to account for a situation where the Chinese Empire and its vassals change to the Chinese Federation.
*Double-check Chinese events to remove ones that deal with the Manchu elite
*Create the Middle East Federation nation and decisions that would allow it to form.
*Need to provide starting armies for the new Indian states
    *Fix bugs that pop up
*Clean up the newspaper stories, since most of them don't apply in this timeline

To install the Heart of Darkness version:

    1) Make sure you have Heart of Darkness and it's patched to 3.03 and works without problems. If your base install doesn't work then how would you expect a mod to work?
    2) Download Pops of Darkness 3.06 from the Pop Demand Mod sub-forum, install it, and make sure it works. If you have issues with this step then go to the PDM sub-forum and look for solutions.
    3) Download this mod from the attachment at the bottom of this post
    4) Find your ../victoria 2/mod folder and delete any existing version of this mod.
    5) Extract the archive from step 3 into your Vicky 2 mod folder
    6) Find your ../documents/paradox interactive/Victoria II/PoD_CGbritannia folder and delete the folder named "map", the folder named "gfx\flags", and (optional) the folder named "save games"
    7) Start up the mod using the game launcher by selecting BOTH PoD and Code Geass Timeline, and let the map cache build. This may take a while.
    8) Restart mod and look at checskum. I get QFKP. !!!Note that if you made any changes to your PDM install, then the checksum will be different!!!
    9) Enjoy the mod If you found a problem, please post here any bugs or balance problems you find so I can fix them for the next release. Feedback for the latest version starts at this post: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...1#post16653202

To install the A House Divided version (note, this version is no longer supported):

    1) Make sure you have A House Divided and it's patched to 2.31 and works with no problems. If the mod crashes then I guarantee this step wasn't done correctly and you should look at the tech support forum to find a solution to your problem.
    2) Download the mod from this Game Front mirror (sorry people living in countries on GF's hate list, this is my best option at the moment ): http://www.gamefront.com/files/23631...itanniaV1_8.7z
    3) Find your ../victoria 2/mod folder and delete any existing version of the mod.
    4) Extract the mod into your Vicky 2 mod folder. 7Zip is free, so if you don't have it you'll need to download it
    5) (note: only do this step if you've played an earlier version of the mod) Find your ../documents/paradox interactive/Victoria II/CGbritannia folder and delete the folder named "map" and the folder named "save games"
    6) Start up the mod using the game launcher and let the map cache build. This will take a while.
    7) Restart mod and look at checksum. I get XQMV.
    8) Enjoy the mod Or, post here about any bugs you found so I can fix them

    Technical FAQ

    * If you get a crash when starting the mod and see the error "exception in: virtualfile.cpp......" then read this thread to fix the problem: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...1#post15250782.
    * If you're using Windows Vista, 7, or 8 and have UAC enabled, then there's a good chance UAC will screw up the install. To get around the problem, copy your Victoria 2 game folder outside of C:\Program Files (x86) to any other location. That folder is protected by UAC to prevent malware from changing your files without your permission. It also means it will screw up the mod because you're manually putting files there.
    * If you're using a Mac, then you'll need to copy your PDM folder, extract the contents of this mod into the copied folder, then rename the folder to CGBritannia. The Mac version of Vicky 2 apparently doesn't allow the selection of multiple mods, so you'll have to do the copy-merge in order for the mod to work.

    ----------------------------------------------------

*Note that the PDM mod is NOT required to play the AHD version, but IS required to play the HoD version.
*Note that you need to restart the game to view the checksum. The checksum you get after the first load will be the wrong one

    Special Thanks:

Very interesting mod! Playing as the HBE right now. It is 1841 and I have had Texas in my sphere since 1836/37 when I had intervened in the Texas-Mexico war. When is Texas supposed to petition for statehood and be annexed into the glorious empire? Also is WAD that Democratic Spain falls to the Carlist?

Anyways, this is a promising start! I can't wait to see more aspects of this mod!

There's a typo in the event file that keeps Texas from joining. I have it fixed on my end, but if you want to fix it on your end you need to do two things. First, edit your save to remove the flag bristatehood_we_have_applied. Then, go to the mod's event folder, open the file ACW.txt, and replace 16401 with 16402. Deleting the flag will cause Texas to fire the petition again, and the number change will cause the correct event to fire for the HBE.

To be honest, I've never seen Spain fall to the Carlists until I changed it to be a democracy here, and I've played APD a LOT. I don't see how simply changing the government type would cause this to happen, but I've only played 1 game past 1836 so it could be bad luck. Someone suggested via PM to give France the option to intervene if the Carlists win, and give Prussia and Austria an option to force France to back down. This would be similar to APD's Oriental Crisis intervention events, where one side can force the other to back down. I'm going to give France a "Install Democracy" CB that it can use for free for the next version of the mod.

I adjusted the to-do list a bit to reflect bugs I found during my test playthrough up to 1860 as the HBE. The biggest thing is that I need to hit Great Britain's industry hard with the nerfbat. I left it alone at first, thinking that without access to the raw materials the former colonial holdings used to provide its industry would collapse, but that apparently isn't the case. In my test game Britain's industry score is 233 in 1860, while the 2nd highest score is 86.

New version up. Fixed a few bugs I saw in my playthrough and that others have noted. The big changes are the CBs for France and Britannia, which should hopefully drive their growth into the right directions and make them be more aggressive in the correct theaters. Tried to make their CBs provide infamy, but that didn't work. I don't think they should be able to go on a massive war binge for free, so I may do something like make a new event the CB fires that adds infamy to the aggressors as a workaround.

Right now Europe is essentially the same as it appears in the PDM mod, with the only exceptions being that Malta is independent and Spain owns Gibraltar. I will upload a pic of the starting world map in the first post though, so people can get a better idea of what to expect. As mentioned, the biggest change is in North America.

The way I see it, the main draw here for people who aren't fans of the franchise is that this is an alt-history where Britain has basically been neutered and the US has been replaced with a far more aggressive nation. If you've ever wondered what might have happened if both the American Revolution failed and Napoleon had invaded Britain, then this mod is for you.

EDIT: Need to update core files to APD 3.2.5. There are a lot of things I like in there and for version 1.2 I'll readjust Britannia's pops so all middle and upper-class pops will be of the Britannian culture, while the farmers, craftsmen, and labourers will revert to the base APD mod's Yankee, Dixie, etc. cultures. Soldiers in the start bookmark will be of the Britannian culture for game-balance and lore reasons. According to the story, one of the few paths to citizenship for non-citizens in Britannia was to join the military and perform well in battle. This will mean I'll have to figure out how to mod pop promotions so non-accepted soldier and officer pops living in Britannia will actually assimilate despite living in a country that oppresses minorities. It also opens up possibilities for a civil war and the potential 2nd American Revolution, as all of the workers won't have any legal rights since they won't be of an accepted culture.

I want to work on finishing the HPP mod for HOI3, so I won't update this one until the weekend.

Yes, the flag is in. You can't really see it though, as the details are lost at the scale that flags appear in the game.

I thought about splitting up Great Britain, but in the tv show all the maps of the EU depict the member-states' borders to be the same as our own so I left Great Britain intact. There's nothing really stopping me from breaking up the country into the 4 component states though.

It occurred to me that without the US, the Louisiana Purchase never would've happened. To account for that I redrew the map and would like to get some feedback on what people think might have happened in this setting. I'm no expert on the French Revolution nor the Napoleonic Era, but I think that even if Haiti gained independence as in our time line, without any credible foreign naval threat France might've kept Louisiana and might have retaken Haiti at some point after Napoleon's death and the 1836 start date.

Here's the map I'm currently working with:

So, what are your guys' thoughts on this? Should I have stuck with the map used in v1.1?

A new version is also up, see the changelog for details. One thing I noticed in my test game is that Britannia has some demographic problems of the "strange" kind. It's not exactly bad, but not good either. At the start around 6% of the population is of an accepted or primary culture, but by 1846 that number jumped to 39% and the percentage of soldiers jumped to about 18% of the total population. The absurdly huge jump in soldiers basically breaks the mod since it kills tax income and the budget. Any ideas on what caused this (military spending slider was at lowest possible value)? My initial guess is that I need to dig through the pop-demand promotion table and adjust it for the new culture, but I'll admit that I don't know much about that file. As for the massive jump in pops of the Britannian culture, I don't know if this is due to assimilation or not. I didn't see any tooltips concerning assimilation when hovering over pop growth arrows, and I didn't notice any low-literacy Britannian pops. Do pops change their literacy when they assimilate? If not then I guess the non-accepted pops are assimilating at a rate far faster than I'm comfortable with.

I did test how the AI uses its new free CBs, and at the moment I'm happy with it. Both France and Britannia (after Britannia researches Romanticism) use their new CBs, but seem to do so sparingly enough that it doesn't cause them to be in a constant state of war, which I was afraid of. Britannia is hampered by the number of states it can grab from one nation in a single war and the truce period slows down its growth. I'm curious to hear what other people have seen and if the AI in their games is (ab)using the new CBs or not.

The thing with the Louisiana purchase is that Napoleon didn't give a single heck about Louisiana, that's why he almost donated it to the US. There was not much french people living there anyway. I don't think giving it to france is a good idea because it unbalance the set up. Britannia is supposed to become the #1 absolutist power in the world, and if it can't expand because there is large chunk of France standing in its way, this might give france a huge advantage, and prevent Brittania to conquer the Americas.

That thought did occur to me, but in this case the US doesn't exist, and Napoleon's opponents fled to what is now the US. So, while Napoleon was alive I don't know if he would've allowed the exiled British royals to occupy and keep the territory. On the other hand, would the exiled British nobility be able to mount an offensive from the right away from the colonies, considering that the ones south of Canada rebelled 30 years prior and likely weren't on good terms with their rulers. Another thing to consider is that according to the story, Napoleon was assassinated in 1815 (I've also seen sources that say he died in 1807; doesn't help that the written stuff and TV show don't match up 100%), which is what caused the democratic revolutions in Europe. Would a post-Napoleon democratic France have sold Louisiana to its former bitter rivals or fought to keep it?

One thing I considered is that if I decide to keep Louisiana as a French colony, then I would make a decision where if either Britannia occupies all of it or France's navy is reduced to 29 ships or less (arbitrary number), then the war would end and France would cede all of its North American holdings to Britannia. My thinking is that if France loses control over all of it, then there won't be any incentive to fight to keep it. Likewise, if the fleet is reduced to such a small number of ships then France realistically wouldn't have a chance to protect the colonies.

But without Haiti it is Logistically unfeasible to hold Louisiana.

So I can give Haiti back to France. Or give Louisiana to Britannia, or make Louisiana be independent, or give it to Mexico or Spain, or leave it empty. I don't know, I'm asking what you guys think.

The source material doesn't talk about this kind of stuff; it goes from "Napoleon kicked the British aristocracy out of Britain and was later murdered" to "it's 1960 and Britannia just invaded and occupied Japan", leaving out the details. This is where I can do anything, but would rather do something that makes sense and would be fun to see, hence why I brought up the scenario and wanted to discuss it with those who were interested in the topic.

Give Louisiana to Spain or Mexico, IMO, that would beef them up and they need it, a provide a challenge to Britannia's expansion while not overpowering france (that must be quite powerful already without UK in the way). Louisiana hasn't been long to the hand of Napoleon anyway.
The "historical" explanation would be that if Napoleon died in Russia, the secret treaty of San Ildefonso would have been rescinded uniterally by Spain, and so they kept the land. If you want to give it to mexico, then the mexican invaded the Spanish Louisiana as it was poorly defended (a bunch of forts really) and claimed the lands for themselves

Basically i'd expect Americas will be a challenge between mexico and brittania, while europe a struggle between imperial russia and democratic france.

  16. #16
I feel like if the British government fled to America, then they would occupy Louisiana fairly quickly to dissuade the French from attacking. Also, I hate to be a nitpick, but the first major point of divergence isn't the revolutionary war, but in 55 BCE, when the original Britons banded together and repelled the Roman invaders. It doesn't affect the mod but I just wanted to point it out
People who restrict freedom of speech are always people to be suspicious of and hostile to.

I like that idea, I'll definitely consider it. Mexico could use some beefing up and that would be an interesting alternative to the HBE constantly fighting France to kick it out of the Americas.

What I have right now and what I'll post in a bit is that Haiti and Louisiana are French colonies. If Britannia has fired its version of Manifest Destiny and either 1) owns Haiti, 2) owns New Orleans, or 3) occupies New Orleans, St. Louis, Des Moines, and Denver then it gets a decision that will essentially offer to pay France for its colonies in return for ending the war (if they are at war). This covers the scenario where if France kept the colonies but can't fully protect them and the HBE asserts itself, then France gives up and focuses on Europe. Spreading democracy and forming the EU should be France's primary goal.

I'm not dead-set on keeping this implementation, but I have it ready so I'll share it for others to try out. This is all informed guesswork anyway, so if I happen to like someone else's guess then I don't have an issue switching over how Louisiana is implemented.

@Duke of Awesome: Yeah, I read that, but it really has no effect on the mod so I left it out of the description. The important points are that the US doesn't exist and that Napoleon kicked the British royals out of Britain.

Its Implied that the Capital is in Arizona based on a Map, either in Phoenix or Yuma. Perhaps when HBE colonizes that area there should be an event to move the Capital.

    http://codegeass.wikia.com/wiki/Pendragon

On a map displayed on the Damocles, Pendragon appeared to be in southern Arizona, near the real-world city of Yuma. At the same time however, the surrounding landscape (mountains) seems to correspond more to Arizona's capital, Phoenix.

In about an hour or two

I'm changing how I wanted the EU to be created and need to test it before I upload 1.3. You can see what the differences between 1.3 and 1.2 are in the changelog at the top. The key thing is that I managed to stop the obscene soldier-pop growth that the HBE goes through.
