*In his lonely jail cell in a maximum security prison in Vienna, Evzan Kanelos hears the details about the events that have unfolded over the past few months by the ramblings of the prison guard, with Lilic being reelected, the protests, the recounting of the votes by the military, and proclaiming Lilic president again. The most interesting story to arise was from his homeland in Crete, where the communists, socialists, members of the Cretan Guard, and men from different party's have rallied under his brother for his release and the legalization of the DWLP. He and his brother share a common bond with each other, and seeing Oighrig as the politician he says hes not, Evzan knows that his ideas will not die with him. Evzan also knows that civil war is coming, and with it, the possible dissolution of the Federation. He knows that the Lilic administration will not quell the protests enough, and that protesters have a tendency to turn rebellious. He asks his personal cell guard to get him some paper and a pencil. He then proceeds to write down his thoughts.*
The Manifesto of Evzan Kanelos.
Civil Disobedience. It is a simple term yet a very strong idea. The idea of protest through just not doing what is told. It is not violent, yet it sends the message across loud and clear, we want change. Through Civil Disobedience, laws have been changed, presidents removed, and the entire constitution flipped on its face. I strongly believe in the idea of Civil Disobedience, yet who will do the disobeying? The people have taken up signs and pickets to protest a corrupt and power hungry executive office. These people have come from all aspects of life and class. From the richest of the rich, to the poorest of the poor. Men have taken up words against this corrupt government, and they ask a simple request.
This Manifesto is a form of Civil Disobedience, it protests what is wrong not through violence but through words. It is not illegal, it is simply refusing to obey unjust laws and governments. This Manifesto is also a form of humble opinions. I write not because I want communism to succeed, but I want corruption to fall.
The DWLP was built on the idea of rights for workers, the men who built this country from a poor empire, to a thriving democracy. The DWLP enjoys democracy, something that communism and socialism is stereotypical assumed to be against. What kind of communist would not want the worker's voices to be heard in politics? But, we do not enjoy corruption in democracy, especially by corrupt officials and politicians like our dear president. I believe that democracy is vital to society. We must allow all voices to be heard, and all voices to receive representation. I also believe in freedom of protesting and freedom of speech. I believe in Free press and many other freedoms.
Not very communist of me is it not? These freedoms are basic human rights of men, women, and children that have been given to them at birth. Any man, party, or government that tries to take this away would be considered tyrannical, and hell-bent on bringing ruin to society. I believe that these basics freedoms should be the backbone of any society and government, regardless of who is in power.
Yet our freedom of speech is being repressed, the press spits out lies, and protesting against this is being questioned as a crime. The DWLP manifesto states that violence is a way to create change, and I do believe in that. I do not believe in open violence, violence that is considered unnecessary, and violence without a major cause. I believe in violent ways only when man is forced to act violently to protect himself, his property, his family, and his natural freedoms. Our country was founded in revolution because we were forced to protect ourselves from the tyrannical monarchy. Peace is also a way for change. Constant strives for peaceful reform are key for creating a political system. If we are not forced to be violent, then we shall not be violent. If we are to do peace, then we shall do peace.
This is not a defense, nor is it a way to free myself. If I am to die, so be it, but if President Lilic forces the citizens to act violently, then as a warning to him and his cabinet, the people will act violently back to protect themselves.
-Premier of the DWLP: Evzan Kanelos
*The Manifesto is smuggled out of the prison and arrives intact in Crete, were his brother Oighrig receives it. He proceeds to publish it in a local Cretan newspaper, and distributes it among the protesters*
