Crusader Kings II: The Republic review - 4.5 out of 5
“The Republic is, like Sword of Islam before it, definitely a must have DLC for Crusader Kings II. The addition of special rules and mechanics for another group of power players in Europe ensures even more hours of fun, be it playing them or facing against them.”

Crusader Kings II: The Republic review - 4 out of 5
If you don’t mind the odd feud between families and are prepared to fill the campaign fund with your hard-earned money to ensure your dynasty’s success, then The Republic is definitely an expansion to the wonderful world of Crusader Kings II that is worth checking out.

Definitely starting as Gotland :) I did note that there weren't any selectable muslim republics though, I suppose they're out of the game?

Great! I can't wait to try it! I decided, for the occasion, to read again the amazing work of Frederic C. Lane, Venice, A Maritime Republic wich describe the history and the political turmoil of a medieval republic passing from the early medieval time until the time of revolutions... So Venice will be, after this DLC, my game of CK2 and my first game of EU4.

I got so many questions aboutthis DLC... like : will patrician be able to govern town or just their palace and trading posts? It could be nice! How would internal politics work? I hope that there will be decision of internal politics between families.

I've been expecting this one. What attracts me, is the whole management of the typical Merchant Republic, competing with others for wealth and glory...

Genoa will probably be my first choice.

Venice sounds the coolest: but I wonder if they will change something so that it stays independent for longer. It seems like the HRE always ends up conquering it. Also, will you be able to play as the other small republics in Italy, like Ancona? Those could be interesting too.

I don't think that there were Muslim republics of the same kind as Genoa, Pisa, Venice, etc. but I am not totally sure about that.

that was nice but to the important:
1st loved the green screen effect with the books.
2nd that doomdark beard, it looks so good, he feels like an evil millioneaire bond villain (i dont know why)

Two questions, will people in a multiplayer game be able to pick different familys in the same republic? and what happens if i play as a republican character and my son and heir gets landed a castle by a emperor/king/duke and thereby becomes nobility?

I get the impression that all of the changes they're making will give the republics a great deal more money and levies at their disposal, so we may not have to worry too much about the Germans taking them over.

I am pretty sure in the interview from PCM gamer that it sated if he's heir to a feudal title he gets disinherited sort of from the republic, for example I have two sons ones hier to the Holy Roman Empire the other to the republic of Venice can't be both for one its a shame tho

How so if they're stuck in a sauna drinking punch ? ;)

Waiting for Paradox to announce or post something during swedish holidays does us all good, it teaches us humbleness....of which i still need more as well.
The "content" trait is quite rare in the forums.

Just a quick question, would it be possible to mod that?

If the succession laws for republics are decided like those for Christians/Muslims are, it should be fairly easy to mod this.

Diplomacy is far easier when your leader is female because you can use your body as a diplomatic tool more effectively, lol

Only works if you are gregarious or attractive... try having a female character with a lisp or hunchback or, godforbid, ugly trait. You'd be wishing for a penis...

Given that Towns/Lord Mayors/etc are the most insanely op thing remaining in this game, I'm interested to see how broken the republic expansion will be. You can already decimate the games intended economy by simply making all coastal provinces mayors, make any duke over the coastal provinces a mayor, set town taxes to harsh, set town levees to min. Any high diplo leader (which anyone over a duchy size should have by default since it's far better then any other type of leader), can easily mitigate the penalties and you will get 45% of their crazy high taxes. It's quite easy to make 30-50g per month early in the game and it will just keep skyrocketing.

Combine that with being able to play as a mayor yourself = no government penalty = win.

I imagine the AI will be pretty good at messing up all your fine work, whenever people lose the position of Doge.

Its not a big deal for non-powergamers.
