Chapter IV: Conquest Of Urbino (Conquest Of Italy Part III)

King Niccolo wanted to annex Urbino, to teach them a lesson for not helping in the war against Naples. Unfortunately, Urbino was guaranteed by Savoy, Milan, Aquileia, Sicily and Genoa.

He pondered his next move. How could he deal with such enemies??

1)Venice would gladly join the war and the could handle Aquileia.
2)Naples would keep Sicily at bay from invading from the south.
3)Tuscany and Modena would keep my lands safe from harm.

Who would take on Savoy and Genoa?? They combined for nearly 20,000 troops on their own.( Savoy 12000, Genoa 7000). He held a mere 6,000 men to their combined might. What could he do. He thought to ally himself with Milan....... and they Refused.

He ran out of Options. right when he was about to give up....

With the addition of Mantua's land, we gained enough ducats AND Forcelimits to add 4 units to our army!! Now it was time for the strategy.

1) We wouldn't be able to launch an attack by Fleet, it was too meager. Milan would have to grant us Military access which they did. Now there was a clear cut path right to Savoy and Genoa.
2) We would have to crush the enemy moral by winning small bouts to keep them at bay. They will drop off armies at a rate of maybe 2-5 thousand at a time. Be quick and rout them before they can merge.
3) Once that is under control, the armies and or manpower should be depleted by continuously creating them, that is when we strike!!
4) Venice will handle Aquileia.
5) Naples will handle Sicily.
6) Tuscany and Modena will handle the homelands.
7) We will handle Savoy and Genoa.

While devising this Flawless battle plan, two events happened.

1) We advanced our Military technology
2012-12-08_00004.jpg

2)Venice decided to add Urbino to their Sphere of Influence
2012-12-08_00005.jpg

Venice, YOU TRAITOR!! Fine, you wanna join the enemy?? So be it. The Kingdom of Ferrara will gladly take you on!!

Venice added their ally Austria to the Battle. Thats fine as long as we dont try to invade Venice or Aquileia.

2012-12-08_00007.jpg

Urbino's army was instantly destroyed and Tirol help financially with our war effort.

2012-12-09_00002.jpg

Venice kicked us out of their trade station and wouldnt let us return. Thats fine. We didnt need their trade.

2012-12-09_00003.jpg

Shortly after that, Urbino was annexed.

2012-12-09_00004.jpg

Lucky for us, Venice sent the core of their army to southern Greece, which left me with only needing to deal with Aquileia.

2012-12-09_00006.jpg

We took the easy way out with Aquileia.

2012-12-09_00009.jpg

Naples was beginning to lose the war against Sicily to the south. thatnks to the help of Savoy and Genoa, so that would leave their capitals WIDE OPEN!!

2012-12-09_00010.jpg

Modena and Tuscany were doing a great job handling the small armies attacking our capital.

2012-12-09_00011.jpg

And i had completely demolished the 6,000 troops Savoy and Genoa left behind.

Hard Fought Victory. Even though, in our opinion, it was our victory, we still conceded defeat to end the war. We survived..... and thats all that mattered.

2012-12-09_00018.jpg

After that, King Niccolo passed away, ceding the throne to his son Alfonso I. In his time as King;

1) 4 Regions were added to the Kingdom
2) Started a Personal Union with Naples
3) Held his own against the might power of Venice.
4) Gained 30% control of Italy.
5) Integrated his 2 PU Kingdoms.

Nice work! You've expanded rather nicely -- Sicily is another excellent target, as it's outside the HRE (depending on whose friends they have). When ever I play an Italian game, Milan is usually the mid-game boss, so you should focus on them as your long term enemy.

Because of Svip I have a bit of a hard time cheering for Ferrara. I think I can make an exception though :)

You've done some seriously nice work consolidating Italy with an OPM, way better than I could ever do!

What exactly happened??

Yea, about that.

Excellent work so far!

Thank ya!!

Chapter V: Expel Venice (Conquest of Greece)

With all of East Italy under our control, all that was left was war against other nations of the HRE. Alfonso decided to expand outside of Italy. The closest place? Greece. The Ottoman Empire had been beaten and forced to release the nations of Byzantium and Bulgaria effectively pushing them out of the Balkans. Now who to Attack?? Venice, or Byzantium. Preparations were made for an easier to attack Byzantium.

2012-12-09_00021.jpg

I re-established my alliance with Tuscany.

2012-12-09_00022.jpg

Romagna's culture changed from Umbrian to Lombard.

2012-12-09_00024.jpg

Then, there was a Border Friction with Venice for the province of Athens. War was Declared, Austria, Savoy and Genoa Joined the as well. Genoa was the first to fall.

2012-12-09_00026.jpg

Then Savoy.

2012-12-09_00027.jpg

2012-12-09_00029.jpg

Then Austria.

Chapter VI: Into The Balkans Part I

With Western Greece under our control and the only nation strong enough to contest us gone, the rest of the Balkans would be easy Conquest as long as we didnt upset Hungary. Byzantium was next on our list of conquest.

While preparing for the war, We passed the Licensing and Press Act.

2012-12-09_00038_zpsd5474aed.jpg

Romagna cored two months later adding more income to the nation.

2012-12-09_00041_zps509bb8ea.jpg

We then Recieved a Gift to State.

And on a side note, if you look at the top of the picture, you can see that Venice had war declared on it By Milan and Aquileia. Milan Gained Treviso and Venizia while Aquileia gained Corfu. making Venice a footnote in History. Milan was gaining power almost as fast as we were. They had just as many troops as we did and their allies were stronger. We appeased them by getting a royal marriage to increase relations. They accepted.

2012-12-09_00043_zpsa7493e8f.jpg

Then, war was declared on Byzantium. We claimed there land like a plague.

2012-12-09_00044_zps4b6b4551.jpg

Their army was no match and fell easily.

2012-12-09_00046_zps9dca4d4d.jpg

Then there was nothing to stop us.

2012-12-09_00047_zpsc0f8b675.jpg

While the war was going on, we received a Boundary Dispute over the province of Mecadonia.

2012-12-09_00049_zpsb6f0898c.jpg

and finally their capital Thrace, Fell to us.

We now owned all of Greece and some of the Balkans. But where should our next campaign take us??

Closest to home, We did not see it as a good idea to attack the Pope.
Tuscany was protected by the Emperor so there was nothing we could do.
To Northwest, France was becoming a Juggernaut crippling England and Castille, while utterly vanquishing Burgundy. They seem unstoppable.
To the North, Milan was Gaining power fast. Its allies were in the many and they bore a formidable challenge.
Farther North, Bohemia began vassalizing minor powers and abusing their power as the Holy Roman Emperor.
To the Northeast, Hungary was vying for power looking for somewhere to spread.
To the East in Anatolia, the Ottomans were beginning to lose their power to the Timurids and Mamluks.
To the Far Northeast, The Nomad Warriors of the horde steadily marched on Europe, already taking down Poland, Lithuania, Moscowvy and Novgorod.
To the south, Sicily lay waiting to be annexed. Their allies were a Joke.
and to the South across the , The tribal nations of North Africa have still yet to be domesticated.

These nations would be the ones to make or break our Future Endeavors. But, Which one would be the one we encounter first??

Chapter VII: Conquest of Sicily (Conquest of Italy Part IV)

A short time after the war with Byzantium, we built ourselves a National Bank(My inflation is like a 9) to help curve the economy in the correct direction.

2012-12-09_00051_zps6e35721b.jpg

The following year, We got into a Border Friction with Sicily over the province of Messina.

2012-12-09_00052_zpsf364093a.jpg

We prepared for war, and declared instantly. they were allied with only Aquileia and Corsica, so there was nothing to fear.

2012-12-09_00053_zpsc4302bf4.jpg

Then...... The GREATEST possible outcome had occurred. Milan to the North ran into a major problem. Their King passed away..... WITHOUT AN HEIR!! They looked to us for help, and we formed a personal union With the Powerful MILAN!!!

2012-12-09_00054_zpsf27d4e67.jpg

King Alfonso was so happy, He forgot he was at war!! Bothe Tuscany AND The Papal States joined the war against me.

2012-12-09_00057_zps502105ea.jpg

Tuscany was the First to fall, and they were annexed.

2012-12-09_00058_zps955e556b.jpg

Next, The Papal States, Which were also annexed.

2012-12-09_00059_zpsfe629745.jpg

Then Aquileia.

2012-12-09_00060_zps1d089d9c.jpg

And Finally Sicily, Who was Vassalized.

2012-12-09_00061_zps93a4e7a5.jpg

That ended the war, with me going from taking just one province to taking over all of Italy. Ferrara, Your future is BRIGHT the the morning sun!!
