Firstly I just want to say, i'm new to CIM, just started playing it 2 weeks ago, and really enjoying it! I'm hooked!

Will there be weather in CIM2? If so, will weather have affects on the public transport system? I was thinking it would be quite interesting to see things like surface flooding caused by heavy rain, forcing you to re-divert your bus routes, or power lines knocked out by thunderstorms affecting your trams, trolly buses, and metro services etc.

Good question! On a more basic level, does weather affect an individual's desire to use public transport? E.g. in the real world rain/snow means people prefer to use their cars than walk/cycle/use public transport.

And i guess a related question is, with the proper day/night cycle included in CiM2, whether there is a month/seasonal cycle that might affect weather and traffic patterns? More tourists in the summer months, less hours of daylight in winter, etc.

Very clever.
Who would wait for a bus with no shelter when it's raining?

I like the idea of having different weather effect the behavior of people and your network. Power outages and floodings sound really nice.

I certainly wouldnt if it wasnt for the fact that I dont have any alternate means of transport :D

But I could imagine something like this for rainy weather... (Avoid being out in the rain as much as possible)
- People with cars (middle and upper class adults mostly) will less likely use puplic transport (even less if the station isnt sheltered)
- People who would otherwise walk or use a bike to reach their destination will more likely use puplic transport.

If it snows the only thing that comes to mind is that some drivers will think about safety first (slippery roads) and will more likely use puplic transport.

Sometimes you have no choice, I know from personal experience ha! But yes, I think weather (and seasons too) would certainly add an extra layer of depth to the game. Additionally to this, I think it would also add a bit more flavour to the game too, for example it would be nice to watch as the city turns white and the rivers begin to freeze when Winter approaches. Then as Spring returns, watch as all the trees and plants begin to blossom again. I'm sure everyone would love to watch a good thunder storm now and then too!

That would be very interesting.
I guess you have no choice, but I'd assume people would be more sensitive to if the bus wouldn't arrive on time. Perhaps use private hiring, making your services more unpopular.

I'm pretty sure Unity3D can implement that artificial intelligence into the game.
When it's raining people will prefer to walk in shelter. Vice versa for blazing temperatures.
People will wear clothing influenced by the type of weather (winter coats when it's cold and umbrellas will pop up when it's rainy etc)

I'm sure the engine can handle that, but unfortunately we at Colossal have limited resources and will not be implementing different seasons to the game at this point. However I like the idea and maybe we'll have opportunity to add this in the future as a DLC, for example.

Weather could be a nice touch, but with the days changing every 24 minutes, we will have to play many hours to see the seasons change.
