Time advanced by 10 days. Jump gate construction has commenced, and Jacob has completed his survey of Venus:

70 million tons of duranium, 200.000 tons of corbomite, 11 million tons of Tritanium, and nearly 4 million tons of Uridium - that will last us a LONG time. The accessibilities, however, are problematic; Apart from the Duranium, at accessibility 0.2, all of these have an accessibility no better than 0.1. Meaning that digging it all up will be expensive..

Unless a geo survey team substantially approve accessibility we should ignore it, Venus is a dead end.

Another 15 days, another asteroid:

Nothing special there.
I'm off to bed. Feel free to discuss whatever though :)

Not before we got a Jump point base at each.
We don't want to lose the Home world.

Rear Admiral Rendap looked out of the Window at The Pier. Although the placement of the Primary Naval Base of the Union had yet to be decided, Rendap was hoping that this would be the place.

"Quiet and peacefull as always, right Randy?" he commented and his aide, Lt. Randy Ook readily agreed with his Admiral. Yet as the Liutenant didn't make further comments, Rendap turned back and moved to his chair and sighed. "Better get the daily correspondence dealt with. Ready Randy?"

Lt. Ook nodded courtly and prepared the oldfashined labtop that he was using for his Admirals correspondance. Rendap began:

MEMO FROM CINC, PN
TO: Council of Five.
CC: Naval Staff, Bureau of Ships, Bureau of Personel, Naval Senior Commanders, Lord Randakar, Scientific Community, Administrator Binns,

Whether it is a Jump Point Base or Naval Ships can be discussed. But defences needs to be in place. For the moment, I believe that our research is better spent on Missiles which can be used both offensively and defensively than changing the allocation to Energy Weapons. As we get more Universities built or updated to Trans-Newtonian Computers, I support that research into Energy Weapon commences, but for now let's keep things like they are.

Commander Dalek, your request of a transfer to the Magellan have been noted. However, this is at odds with your previous statement that you request fighter duty. Please remember that commands are a minimum of 3 year duration unless promoted out of the zone and commanding the Magellan will exclude you from Fighter Duty. You might still get a Carrier at a later stage, but your skills are more worthwhile in the Survey Office at the moment, so that is where you'll remain for the time being.

Additionally, since we have rejected your proposal of the jump points less than 2 months ago and the situation haven't changed slightly, what makes you think that we will change our minds? I kindly request that you accept the ruling for now and don't make the same suggestions every week until we are ready for the exploration. Anything less will be lack of respect of your fellow councilors and be poor reflection on the Navy.

Now, I have Captain Emu investigating the reports of the Jump Points and hopefully she will have some information for the council shortly.

Congratulations for Administrator Binns for the appointment to Earth.

I have no objections to the reshuffling of Mr. Kiwi's work orders. I don't agree with the change, but I can follow the council's thoughts on the matter and bow to the decision of the majority.

I also suggest to the council to award Lt. Commander Lundgren the Exploration Award for his findings in the inner system and the Asteroid belt.

While Comet 6 looks to be a good alternative for a mining operation, I suggest that decisions on Mining operations be postponed until the Inner Belt and the rest of Sol's Planets and Moons have been surveyed.
There is no need to spend resources setting up an operation if a better target suggest itself within the next few months. There is still half a year until our first Freighters are finished and the decision is needed.

With regards to the change of priorities of construction, I concur with my fellow councilors.

I have instructed Commander hdk to begin discussing Fighter Operations with Mr. Law so we can get that part off the ground as soon as possible. However, no matter how I see things, I don't believe we can have a strike force of Carriers ready for deployment within the next 5-10 years. There are simply too much research into Missile Miniturization that needs to be performed before fighters become feasible from the current estimates. I will keep discussing this with my staff, but the current estimate is that a standard Strike Force could consist of:

1 Carrier around 15k tons displacement
3-4 Light Cruisers with Energy Weapon Point Defences around 10k tons displacement.
6-8 Destroyers with Anti Missile Armament around 5k tons displacement.

A secondary suggestion of increasing the size of the Carrier to 20k tons and adding a squadron of Missile Cruisers to the mix as well as increasing the numbers of Light Cruisers and Destroyers is under discussion as well among my staff, yet no firm recommendation have been reached. It is though the strong urging of the Navy to begin construction and expansion of additional Naval Shipyards as soon as practical, current Neutronium levels considered. For now, I will not put this as a suggestion, since we need to find the Neutronium before we can discuss any adjustments.

Rendap
Rear Admiral, PN

Lt. Ook finished the typing and looked at his Admiral. "Would you like to review it before sending it, Sir?"

"No, that's fine. Get it sent as soon as you've proofed it and send in Lawrence, Emu, Sharp and hdk. I wan't to have another round on the Fighter questions."

With that Rendap once again turned and looked down at the Harbor in Harwich.

A geological survey team can find a deposit with better accessibility which will increase it for all materials but we need them to be REALLY good before we put them on Earth and Venus.

It might be a good idea to put together a good team and have them survey various asteroids and graduate to small moons before touching planets. Once the team rating is high, we can gamble on Venus, hoping for higher accessibility of current veins.

I recommend waiting a little on this. We still don't have any Survey Specialists that really stand out as being good. So it would take ages to train them.

*sigh* The Swarm just decided to off my last game before it really got started, so I get a new one going.

TN start and I end up with 2 Scientists. 1 EW and 1 Sensors...

Gonna be a Slooooooow start!

Yeah, we might need to use people with current assignment a bit later. I was thinking the captain of both survey vessels after they finish their tour of Sol system.

After finishing Blue Emu's outstanding AAR I've been reading this one and I must confess that I'm waiting eagerly for

MOAR!

;)

Good luck.

Regarding Jacob: I've gone ahead and awarded it. I didn't consider it something that needs a full council vote.
Regarding the mining ops on Comet #6: Unless I hear someone proposing something it will stay unclaimed, uninhabited, and unmined.

I volunteer.

Excellent. Would you like to be a scientist, a civilian admin, or a naval officer on said team?
The scientist is the best xenologist we have, the civilian admin is sorta decent but has a low admin rating so can't really do a lot other than Xeno, and something similar applies to the naval guy.

We also need someone to take the position of governor of Mars :)

Would you like an officer position, Mr. Steiner?
See above for openings, or give me your preferences and I'll see what I can find.

This is about as much time as I have today, so expect an update tomorrow at the earliest.

Oh, thank you, sir! It would be an honour to occupy such a position, so put me wherever you need to fill a vacant, I don't mind. I would like a warship (what a surprise, indeed...), but if you happen to need to fill any other position, then do it, don't worry. At your leisure.

Thats a good goal to get a warship, sometime in the next couple game years we'll have some missile destroyers, good chance of you being in one.

Cold someone please tell me what the 'points' I got from medals do? And what is my guy doing currently?

To: Vice Admiral Randakar

MEMO From Head of Fighter Command

Randakar, it is in my belief, that a strike force to be composed of a carrier at 15-20k, with a command ship of 15-20k, one cruiser with 4-6 long range missile tubes, and eight destroyers at 5k, each armed with six anti-missile tubes, and cannons to shoot down any close in missiles, which are failed to be shot down. As well, we must focus on logistics first, and have one tanker, and two ammunition colliers per strike force.

From,

Head of Fighter Command, Commander Lord Dalek

While the military position has a certain lure to me, I've had my twenty already, so please sign me up for the Xenologist character if you would be so kind. :)

First, you're in command of the Columbus class exploration vessel Christopher Columbus. You received several medals for "your" action in game!

In realistic promotion that Aurora has and in used for this game, characters are promoted based on number of other officers and how many points they have so far. Skills, length of assignment, and political bonus (not in use). Medals with points will put you over the promotion score with others on a similar level as you. Right now your promotion score is 938 and Rendap is 678. Assuming there are enough Captain to promote someone to Rear Admiral (Lower Half), you will get that job over everyone else. However, if there are enough Rear Admiral Lower half, with that score, you will be promoted over Rendap basically.

Here is the "promotion score" rule thats explained in the officer window under PP Rule button.

Code:
When being considered for promotion, a naval or army officer is scored according to his abilities, using the following rules. The officer with the most points will be promoted first. Administrators and Scientists do not receive promotions

(Crew Training Rating / 5) ^ 2

(Ground Forces Training Rating / 6) ^ 2

Fleet Movement Initiative Rating / 2

Ground Combat or Political Bonus ^ 2

Survey and Deck Crew Bonus: (Bonus * 0.75) ^ 2

Logistics, Operations, Communications, Intelligence: (Bonus * 0.5) ^ 2

Promotion points from any medals awarded to the officer

Years since last promotion x25 (max 100)

If currently assigned to a command: +25

Promotion Score for Hannibal's stats:
Crew Training Bonus 25
25
Fleet Movement Initiative Rating 140
70
Survey 26%
380.25
Fighter Operations 15%
126.56
Communications 15%
56.25
Last Promoted: Jan 1st, 2025
1 Year x25 = 25
Has command?
Yes, +25
Medals: 3
Order of Paradox: 100
Advancement of Humanity: 125
Exploration Medal: 25

It adds up to 958 but the game says 938, so not sure where the extra 20 comes from in my calculation. However, its close as I can see.

Beam me up Scotty. Whoa! That was a looong trip.

I found the following in the game wiki:

“Selecting a population location before creating a team will cause the team to appear at that location.
A time saver if you want to set up a geological survey at a prospective new mining colony.
To move an existing team in this way, select it, disband and then create it again in the new site.

Teams can also be transferred via ships.”

If this has already been discussed, my apologies for missing it in the thread.
My question to the game master is, is this universe using the trans-Newtonian teleporter technology to beam personnel around the explored galaxy?

Or are they all taking the slow boat to China approach?

For now, since we don't have a good civilian shipping line yet, its all slow boat to China. Thats why we transported the Indiana Jones Xeno team to Mars.

For game rule, I propose that all commercial spaceport locations can transport personnel within each other. This will make it useful in the future but not sure about other options in the short term.
