How to cancel a independence guarantee ?

I was playing as sicily and I noticed that Napols current mission was to conquer the papal states so I decided to proclaim them guarantee but now I'm busy in another war and napols can strike at any time, is there a way to cancel a "proclaim guarantee" ?

Nope. If you do it, be ready to fight for it.

Incorrect. All he has to do is simply annex the Papal States

I think that that it's nonsense I think u should be allowed to cancel it if, let's say your king dies and the heir succeds.

The heir reaches the thrown and thinks:

    - What the f*** I don't want to protect these noobs !!!

I believe all guarantees and warnings last 10 years, so after a certain period of time they run out.

And i disagree that you should be able to take them back. Its a strategic weapon you can use to get into wars you dont wanna fight to annex stuff per se, but wars you wanna fight to make sure other countries of your size dont grow too big. If it was possible to take it back easily then it would be pretty much like a exploit.

I found this topic, it says they last 20 years O_O

Also, one thing, do I lose prestige if I refuse to protect them ?

At the same time, in real life if you guaranteed a nation's independence then revoked it a couple of months later, no-one's gonna take you seriously.

Ideally you'd be able to cancel a guarantee early with a hit to trust/relations/prestige. As it is you have to man up and deal with it.

Interesting. I thought it was 30

Also, one thing, do I lose prestige if I refuse to protect them ?
Yes - I believe it's a 25 Prestige hit for refusing a guarantee CtA, the same as for refusing an alliance CtA.

But in general: Don't let your mouth write a check your tail can't cash.

I don't think dishonouring a Guarantee has any penalties. That said, you shouldn't do it unless you intend to honur it.

You lose prestige as Grommile said for dishonouring a guarantee. It's a Sphere of Influence violation that you don't lose anything for.

Lose a war to someone and as part of your concession break any treaties you have with said nation. It costs 10 war score and barely any prestige so if you are at war with someone who would take a white peace, offer to annull treaties with the Papal States.

Would have been better to warn Naples in this case. No penalty that way.

Note: A warning only works if you have a border with the country you're trying to protect.

If you want to get rid of a Guarantee... Sphere it... then you can decline to help protect w/o penalty.
