I beg to differ, DDRJake's strategy was legitimate, seeing as it was one of few ways to win. (The other being the person who went to America instead of going West, though I forget who it was)

Anyways, I will be looking forward to seeing where this goes.

As They All Laugh

Before we begin, let it be known that the options are on normal for everything BUT colonist which i have set to 200. Dont like it, too bad. That is the only thing besides turning lucky nation off. And at certain points of the game i will find a need to act like i AM the emperor so i will peak in first and third person. dont judge i like getting creative.

At the end of year 1399, I find myself feeling as an ant trying to fight Godzilla........

Opening1.jpg

I am but one man with Pagan beliefs and no money. My kingdom is so small that other nations look at us like they would a child with a stick. My merchants are laughed at. my ambassador is laughed at. My military has no moral. if you would even call it a military. there just men i handed spears.... i cannot bear the shame. My glory it there for the Taking but where is it.

I must find it.

I got together with my advisers and asked what we could do for expansion. they said to make the city limits go out more and laughed. so i went and asked my makeshift admiral, just some guy i gave a nice hat to go out and scope the area for ways of expansion. there had to be one somewhere. after his return gave me his report. and with him present we gave the advisers an earful. this was the report....

Our protectors, Ming, lie to the West. There is no need to attack them, for it would only lead to our doom.
Korea and Manchu lie to the North. They are also too strong to advance on.
And to the east lies Japan. All four of their nations have more people in there armies then i do as population for the city.

Opening2.jpg

So our only option would be to the south. I went as far as my ships could take us, and after our search we came back with this map. The green is how far the ships would be able to go, in which there are only three ways of expansion. Champa, Dai Viet, and Brunei.

NavalLimit.jpg

Brunei: lone island to the south, but my ships can only reach the northern tip of it. so going after it would be out of the question.
Dai Viet: probably the easiest one to defeat as all there provinces have no fortifications. but with it sharing borders with Ming. i dont think they would take lightly to me expanding next to them.
Champa: Both of their provinces have fortifications. i can only amount 2000 men without the help of mercinairies. so they to are out of the question....

My only option was Taiwan to the west. an uncolonized island so no one would miss it or fight me for it. i put my entire government to work on this and even hired a Chinese specialist to come and help.

Advisor.jpg

He cost us greatly but i do believe he will help us in the long run. and finally in 1419 we hit a breakthrough!!

NationalIdea.jpg

we had come up with a way to fund people in our nation to colonize the island. we would pay for all the expenses they would just have to live there. Not a lot of people jumped at the idea. but as the months passed more people started to think that life would be better on the other side. the island is big, almost quadruple the size of Okinawa. 200 eager men and women signed up for the task, and on our first attempt.....

CTbeginning.jpg

SUCCESS!!! The first part of my ambition went off without a problem. but the money it was costing to keep the colony running was too great. and the way things were going, it would be almost ten years before the colony was self sustaining..... so we made it our nations focus to keep the colony alive.

MovedNF.jpg

We showed the freedom the people were having and the sign-ups nearly tripled. but more people going meant more money spent. We were running out of money and fast. but right before we ran out....

NobleMoney.jpg

The nobles got together and gave us a small fortune to help with the cause. with that the settlement was fully funded and it would take no more then 5 years to be self sustaining. But there was no time to celebrate for the colony just yet. I stopped all functions of money in Okinawa and force it all into Taiwan. The economy was falling fast. we raised taxes and the inflation was starting to take its toll on Okinawa. But as long as Taiwan made it, I did not care.
The first thing the new settlers noticed about the land was how fertile and rich the soil was. The land was perfect for vegetation. and so there source of income became clear.....

Tea.jpg

And then finally after 2 years of paying people off and sending them to Taiwan, it became self sustaining.

CTFinish.jpg

Ryukyu had successfully claimed Taiwan.. the natives seen how well they were doing and integrated with the colony. With that, we doubled our money. It was now time to look elsewhere for expansion for the first hurdle was complete, and this was nowhere near enough to satisfy my Ambitions.

End Of Chapter 1.

I'm always up for a good try at WC with Ryukyu. Let's see where you go!

Interesting (& brave) start. About your images though. Use one of the many free image hosting sites (imageshack/photobucket et al) rather than this forum's uploader facility. The Aftermath of Taiwan

With Taiwan under control, we were making just enough money to break even, but it pushed our inflation up to 4. With that inflation it seemed like not a problem to other nations, but to Ryukyu it meant the difference between Life and Death. I would then use all my Magistrates to find a Master of Mint. We found one in China, but the initial payment put us in a situation. we had the money to pay him initially but his salary overshot our income.... and we had VERY little money left over from colonizing Taiwan. I immediately began recruiting advisers that we did not need to sell to other countries that did. it provided us with a most valuable income. A few years later our Emperor got his first Heir.

2012-08-16_00001.jpg

So after selling enough advisers, my national treasury was high enough for me to build two constables. I then thought that an extra source of income through trading in Nanjing would help, and it worked out better then i expected!!

2012-08-16_00003.jpg

Until

2012-08-16_00005.jpg

And Then

2012-08-16_00004.jpg

AND WORSE

2012-08-16_00006.jpg

The King passed away and the Regency Council nearly bankrupt us through Failed Trade. We were back at Square one...... The people thought it would be a good idea to throw a festival in honor of our lost Emperor. The council denied it and the Base tax in Okinawa was raised from 2 to 3.

Then Suddenly, while out on patrol, my navy spotted an unmanned region to the west of Brunei and above Makassar. It was just in reach of our supply lines!!!

2012-08-16_00007.jpg

The Land was called Pose by the people of Makassar. and it was ripe for the taking! It immediately became our National Focus, and our first test for the New Emporer.

2012-08-16_00008.jpg

His first decree was to raise money. he would learn from his fathers mistake of jumping in prematurely. While Accumulating money, the adviser from china passed away. The council began searching for a new Master of mint but the King halted their search. for he felt Pose was more important. the adviser had dropped our inflation from 4 to 2.5 in his lifetime. Sho felt that he had done more then enough. With the adviser gone, our yearly income increased 5.4 ducats from .2 to 5.6

2012-08-16_00009.jpg

In 1465, we reached our goal of 200 ducats for Colonizing Pose. In January we sent them off, and in February they landed!!

2012-08-16_00010.jpg

I immediately made it our nations focus and its growth jumped from 13 to 63!!

2012-08-16_00011.jpg

But as I thought, its distance would cause problems. The next three colonizing attempts failed...

2012-08-16_00012.jpg

Till we struck luck on the 5th attempt( 1st Success, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th failed, 5th Success)

2012-08-16_00014.jpg

And their source of income

2012-08-16_00015.jpg

And Finally, after 3 years, we gained complete control of the region and integrated the natives. and we came to realize that Pose had the highest Base tax of all three regions
Okinawa: 3
Taiwan: 4
Pose: 5
It also had enough resources to DOUBLE our Navy!!

2012-08-16_00017.jpg

But it was too soon to celebrate. we had lost 90 percent of our ducats in colonizing Pose... we needed to regain the money. We were answered with Taiwan becoming a Core Province!! Our Yearly income nearly DOUBLED!!! it also made it to where we could hire another, EVEN BETTER, Master of Mint and still have plenty income. it would take longer to get the money to colonize, but our city need it.

2012-08-16_00019.jpg

A few years later, the peninsula to the north, Menade, was discovered. Another land to add to our collection.

2012-08-16_00020.jpg

We did everything in our power to regain our ducats, and in 1489, we were rewarded with Menade.

2012-08-16_00022.jpg

It only took 6 attempts to fully colonize it, adding another Chinawear and Base tax of 3. and with that, 4 years later Sho passed away....

2012-08-16_00023.jpg

and 8 years later, Sei died......

2012-08-16_00024.jpg

In the passing years i was able to squeeze out two more constables.

And after 29 years of service, Sei Honda, single handedly brought our inflation from a 3.5 (it raised cuz i made some stupid decisions) to a zero. he retired happy knowing he did his land proud. ANd now we had the economy to fight for land!!!and the perfect opportunity arose when to the southeast the nation of Aceh's land began rebelling...

2012-08-16_00028.jpg

If it could defect i could walk in and defeat the newly formed nation and claim the land as my own. so i waited........ until FINALLY!!!

I then mobilized my forces to take the offensive when......

2012-08-16_00030.jpg

There was no way possible for my 4000 men to take down 10,000. We returned with our heads down... For now it was apparent that our only means of expansion was colonizing unused land..... And the research showed that the closest land for colonizing to the west of the nation that just Rebeled, was for clicks of Naval technology away.... our future...... Looked Grim.......

END OF CHAPTER 2

First of all, the images are much better, thank you! :)

Second, you haven't expanded very much in the 100 years you've shown; do you have a long term plan to pick up big chunks of land at some point?

Great going so far.

Is there no way of attacking the Indo-chinese nations?
Or, could you use the placement of your navy strategically coz that 10k army can't cross straights to islands no matter how small the navy?

Yea, im trying to use colonizing as a scource of manpower. the more population, the more forces that im aloud, hopefully....

Great going so far.

as of right now, the Indo are all somewhat allied with one another, therefore making it a little hard to get to them. attacking them by themselfs is no problem, add the allies to the mix and im asking for trouble.

Chapter III: Uniting The Natives (Forming a Nation Part I)

With All Hope of winning the un-fought war with Majapahit, we could only grind our teeth and prepare for the long wait that would occur until our Naval Technology was able to reach more lands to colonize. But the men longed for war, they wanted to prove to the world that they were no peasants, or children with sticks. They even convinced more men to join the war machine......

2012-08-17_00001.jpg

It still wasnt enough men, yet they still pushed to join. With that we began or long investment in naval research to speed up the process, until a forgotten piece of the puzzle presented itself before me.

2012-08-17_00002.jpg

POSE BECAME A CORE!!!! AND WITH IT NOT ONLY A MONETARY INCREASE, BUT A NEW PIVOT IN OR COLONIZATION STRATEGY!!!

2012-08-17_00004.jpg

And the first one to fall before us would be the region known as Bone, Below Pose and east of Makassar. But before that, i found it a necessity to build up some of the nation before jumping into expanding. I was able to build Lvl 1 forts in Taiwan, Pose, and Menade. A Marketplace in Okinawa and a dock in all four regions. I then hired a pioneer to help colonize our next region. Hopefully he would help. In 1532, we set sail.

2012-08-17_00005.jpg

It's land was fertile and we would use it to farm grain. It also help out with a base tax of 5.

2012-08-17_00006.jpg

We gained full control of the province in 1533. Two years later, Menade cored as well, giving us more then enough money to colonize our next region. But the question was should we go for the region next to Majahapit and risk starting a war, or go after the province in the far reaches of the known world. I chose to not risk war, and go after Irian just to add a little money to our treasury.

2012-08-17_00007.jpg

This was much to the dismay of the troops. So to boost morale, I upgraded them with new equipment to Offensive Foot Soldiers.

Our first landing in Irian was in 1536...... and it was an almost WORTHLESS province with a mere base tax of 1. But it was still land, and beggers cannot be choosers. Then I was hit with a great surprise when the lands leading production, was Naval Supplies. This would benefit greatly in the long run. In 1538, we gained full control of the land. It was a feat that even our people celebrated. The people looked up to the pioneer, and were more than willing to start colonizing the next region.

2012-08-17_00008.jpg

Who were we to say no to the peoples wishes, for their wish and our ambitions were the same thing!! We immediately began preparations for our next move to colonize Demak, the region to the west of the capital of Majapajit, Surabaya. It took 4 years to reach enough money to colonize Demak. In December of 1543, we gained full control of the region. The people partied in rejoice!!!...... But the rejoice came to an end a few days later, as our famed Pioneer, who led us to 3 provinces, passed away.

This put the land in an enormous low period. Production faltered, money slowly dropped, and moral was scarce. It would continue like this until 1550, where i was confronted by our head of Navy to create a warship, for we had none. We only had transport cogs, and our people were afraid to send there products to trade for the fear of pirates taking it. and it was a very fair distance, so i could understand their speculation. The War Carrack would begin construction the following month. It was to become the flagship of the Navy. And it did!!! At the completion of the warship, our money tripled and our Navy Moral increased. The people felt safe again. The Council had then gotten an idea. If it worked that well for just the Navy.....

2012-08-17_00010.jpg

Maybe it will work for the Army!!! The Army was shocked by the idea. I was shocked at the idea as well. I was at a loss for words. We called together all our strategist to formulate a plan. First, we needed to find all our possible enemies.

2012-08-17_00011-1.jpg

....................................................................... Ok. Well lets see how many troops they all have....

Warcountries.png

................................ NO. JUST NO. WHY WOULD THE COUNCIL EVEN CONSIDER THIS. HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO ATTACK 35,000 Troops!?!?!? DID THEY NOT DO THE RESEARCH TO EXACT THESE CLAIMS!!! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!! I WANT THEM ALL HUNG IN THE CENTER OF TOWN!!!!

Ok, back to reality. That idea was a bust. For the moment we shall overlook the stupidity of the council and refocus on colonizing the last three regions to the west and south of Demak.

A few months later, my 48 year old heir died. Luckily I had a 14 year old heir Ei to take his place. Sei II died the following year. (Forgot PIC)

Ei's first decree was the colonizing of Sunda, the region directly west of Demak. This would be one of the hardest places to colonize. Though its natives may have been few, they were ruthless and known to not like intruders
(7 Agression, 8 Ferocity. and just to make this clear all other provinces except for maybe Pose were 2's) So as a safety measure, the troops were moved to Sunda to protect it. We did not want them to attack the settlement and burn it down.

We set Sail for the first time in January 1561, and they didnt land until September the same year after 3 failed attempts. After we made the initial landing, we spotted a vessel with a rather strange flag......

2012-08-17_00017.jpg

It also came with a map to the rest of the world

2012-08-17_00009.jpg

But then something unexpected happened. the Natives known for Ruthlessness, approached the colony......

2012-08-17_00018.jpg

A few months later, it happened again. It was as if they were drawn to us. With that, I made Sunda the National Focus to speed up the migration process. Within two years we had fully turned Sunda into a working city. It held a base tax of 4. So now it was time to set our sights on our next target. The nation needed Ducats, and the people were more then willing to provide.

2012-08-17_00019.jpg

Now with just 2 more Regions left to colonize, Banten and Priangan, we had to lay our hopes of money and supplies on them. For after we colonized them, the only thing left to do, was to fight for our land.

We finished colonizing Banten in 1573. It came with a base tax of 6 and produced 1.3 units of fish. We of Ryukyu were beyond overjoyed!!! After 5 years of preparation, we set off for Priangan and completely colonized it in 1580. With that, it had given us just enough to form an army that could stand up to our rivals and wipe them off the map!!!
