Thread: Tracking every and all events of a "special interest" character?

Tracking every and all events of a "special interest" character?

My enthusiasm towards CK2 has doubled since I learnt the "Character of Special Interest" feature on this forum, so much so that I have to start a whole new game. It just eliminates so much pain (I used to write in a notebook while playing). Now I'm forever playing at the slowest speed and playing a dozen characters simultaneously using the "play" console command.

Because I'm playing many characters at the same time, the level of detail I'm getting from the message system becomes somewhat unsatisfactory. Most noticeably, many events that has happened to a character of my interest (whom I'm playing in parallel) don't show up in the message box. I'm wondering if there is a way (setting or mod) to track any and all events that has happened to a character of special interest?

I'd like to know this too.

In particular, I've increased the scope of characters for my messages, and turned on all the ones related to war. But I still don't get a message when someone declares war on my wife (she has a bit of land). I'd love to get that message as a popup, and have the game pause when it happens, since I'm not always looking at the part of the map where her land is, to notice that soldiers have popped up and are sieging her.

I'd also love it if I could set a message to display whenever any landholder in my realm gets married. (It would greatly reduce the number of poor innocent children I have to send to their graves for the good of the realm.)

Going to keep watching here and hope you get an answer

Right-click on the portrait of the character, right-click on the left icon, left-click on the star icon. This way the selected char is of special interest and you will get messages about him from time to time.

Thanks, this sounds a useful tool

Yeah, I'd like this too. I'd like to be able to see all the events that occur for close family and special interest characters. It would make the slower parts of the game a lot more interesting.

Would be fun, say you play as a family, father, mother and the children, that way you could be more involved in their lives. I feel a bit to much detachment from my children in CK2.

Yes - in the outliner (the window on the right side of the screen, right under the message windows), click "Open outliner category configuration" and then "Characters of Special Interest" to display them. The names are clickable.

There is also an outliner category called "Message Rules" that you can use to increase/decrease the scope of other messages. The hover text explains what the options are meant to do. Unfortunately, maximizing this scope and enabling everything in Message Settings, doesn't seem to give all important event messages about Characters of Interest (that's what this thread is about).

Unfortunately, CK2 hasn't developed the ability to let you read characters' minds. Maybe in the next patch.

So, no one knows of a way to get a notification that a country has declared war ON a person of special interest? I really enjoy following some figures and hate finding out months after a war started. I think I could even accept some kind of notification anytime anyone in the world declares war, but I don't that's possible either, right?

If it's possible, I don't know how to do it. I'm still hoping someone comes up with a way to do either of these things Just thinking aloud but, perhaps it wouldn't be such a problem if I could save camera views and flip between them quickly, to keep my eye on the territory I want to help protect.
