So this is my Malaya, early 1600s. Started as Brunei and did pretty well. However I have a bit of a problem, named Spain. Any suggestions? As you can see I have a much bigger navy and an ok army. However, of course, my naval tech is way lower. I only have six or seven colonies and the vast majority of my provinces have forts. Any particular trick or idea I should use? Pictures to help a bit.
Your navy is actually smaller than Castile's right now, to tell the truth. However, Castile is vastly overextended in terms of big ships.
I suggest you try to zerg ships against the Castilian fleet and keep them from landing. Fight only where you're strong. It's the best that you can do, outnumbered and out-teched as you are.
Afterwards, it's probably about time to start Westernizing. If that blue to your north isn't France or Sweden, then give Castille one of your provinces (with a border) and take their heathen knowledge for your own.
No, of course north of me is Korea. How am I to manage to give them ONE with a land border and keep them to just one? I grant that they're only likely to land 2-3k troops, but even swarming that many with 20-30k is very unlikely to do much. Thanks for the help though, I'll see how the naval war goes.
Do not forget to scorch your land and let them die from attrition. Also is that the GH?

That's Muscovy. Managed to do fine. Gave them Aceh (which sucks since it's such a good provence) and 800 ducats and they made peace. Hopefully the next time they go to war I'll be ready now. Thanks for the help. I just used the navy to keep them on Java and bled their small fleets til I was up 3 warscore, then they made peace.
pff you worry too much, I've beaten castille as sub saharans, you may not be able to defeat their navy but be sure you have 4 to 1 odds in every land battle and you'll eventually get to concede defeat
