Best version of Divine Wind to use?

    Hi.

I'm looking to get into playing some EU3.

I have the EU3 Chronicles edition only, so I can't easily play mods that require In Nominee only.

I am relatively new to the game.

What is the best version of Divine Wind to use?

I only play single player. I'm mostly concerned with having a solid, consistent AI development that maintains a feel of historical plausibility.

Powerful Ottoman empire, Hordes that get colonized by Russians, not Bohemians and Poles, Spain that only rarely owns all of North Africa, etc.

Supposedly, 5.1 has some major problems in this regard, hence the creation of 5.2. Weak Ottomons, horde problems, central Europeans snaking to Siberia, etc. But the current betas of 5.2 are very much works in progress, as they are working on balancing the newly reduced manpower and the current build has major problems.

So I was thinking about using the April 20th beta of 5.2. That's the version before they started working on the manpower issue and the comments thread doesn't note many problems.

Would it be best to use 5.1? Or the April 20th build of 5.2?

Or would it be best to jump straight to using some mod?

If you want more historical developments, the best thing you can do is not installing some other patch, but starting later. For example, to see stronger Ottomans, Russians, more Austrians and less Bohemians, more France and less Burgundy, try starting in 1492.

I say get 5.1 because with the Death & Taxes mod it is totally worth it. There are some nice changes and many other that I can't remember off of the top of my head.
Another thing is if D&T is not your thing you can always try many of the other mods that are offered

5.2 is still in Beta and being tweaked. For a stable platform play 5.1 until 5.2 is officailly released.

(Unless you don't like the changelog! )

Never apply a beta patch to your official DW installation, so the answer to you is: both. When you have 5.1 installed and verified to have the right checksum, copy the whole EU3 directory structure elsewhere (say to c:\games\eu3-beta\ ) and only apply the beta over that.
Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death .... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man. Bertrand Russell
