Thread: impossible to invade canal zones?

    impossible to invade canal zones?

Well this is kind of strange. On the DH full map, it seems literally impossible to invade either Balboa or Suez. The reason is that those provinces have beaches on the Panama and Suez canal, respectively, so that it is impossible to sail a fleet next to those provinces to invade them. What gives?

It gets even more annoying when you realize that these canal zones are worth VP so that you can literally never annex the controller of the canal zones, without first annexing a neighboring country.

The question arises why Balboa and Suez even have beaches, since it is impossible to do an Amphibious assault on them anyway.

    Am I missing something?

You have to take them from neighboring land provinces.

What if the defender does not control neighboring land provinces?

As Japan I simply declared war to the neighboring two countries to take Panama Canal (=Balboa).

Yeah it's easy enough for a fascist nation, but democracies have more trouble. Plus, it just seems strange to me that I have to invade some innocent bystanders just so I can get my hands on the last VP of a nation that's clearly lost the war already anyway. (Btw playing American Union State in KR, and warring with Canada)

I think it's more realistic this way- You don't just ship divisions to places like that in real world either.

Yeah but if Canada only has the Panama canal left... don't you think they would capitulate?

Oh well. United Provinces, I'm sorry but I'm going to invade you. It hurts me more than it hurts you. Really!

Can't you liberate some sort of other Canada?

I know how you feel because I have conquered the whole USA as Japan till I wondered how come I cannot annex. They had gotten Gibraltar from the UK. But seriously, if that's the way it is: the truth is you cannot get Gibraltar unless you have land connection or a serious paratrooper army + airfield. If Spain refuses our troops to enter, unfortunately that might mean another war

Actually, if you don't mind cheating a little you could claim a province next to Balboa and then use the acceptall cheat to demand that province from them. Then, you can invade Balboa, annex Canada, and give the United Provinces their province back.

Too late. I invaded and annexed United Provinces. This was possible since I took one step to authocratic which was just enough.

I felt kinda bad for the United Provinces but luckily KR turned out to include an event to set them free. Yay!

in case the ai has just a province like gibraltar, suez or bilboa left then you can just claim that and use acceptall to get it. ist is realistic that they capitulate.

also a scenario would be that the country next to that province tries to take it over via Dow or event.

I think the easiest solution would be to remove VPs from canals. The best solution would probably be making the beach not in the canal but in a neighboring sea province.
