Thread: Distant overseas

    Distant overseas

So, I had the unfortunate idea to enter a war to conquer Cyrenaica... don't really know why, probably just the spread-the-colour-of-my-nation fetish!
Anyway, soon after peace is signed I find out that my new province profits me a record 0.00 dn as, not only its religion and culture are different, but mainly because the "distant overseas" penalty takes away 90% of its income. Which is a pretty funny rule, considering that I'm Sicily and my capital is just a few days away by boat and that other provinces I own in Greece and the Adriatic Sea are farther away but do not suffer from this penalty. So I have two questions for you:
    1) How does the distant overseas apply (is it becasue Cyrenaica is in Africa?) and can i modify somthing to make the rule a bit more reasonable for my case
    2) I thought about selling it! HA! But the sell province option appears to be switched off with all countries. How so?

you could just build big/small ships so you get tariff income from the province

All provinces that are on another continent from your capital and to which you don't have a direct land connection are going to provide tariffs instead of tax/production.

But if you conquer different religion/culture/non-core provinces, they will not provide anything for a while either way.

Also you can't sell provinces when you are at war.
Want a EU3 mod that focuses on the late game? Would you rather see Spanish South America over Gelren South America?

The distance is so short it only applies in a handful of cases (mainly several small coastal provinces of North Africa are not overseas for Castille/Spain). For everything else it's just "different continent with no land connection". And the distance can't be modded.
