[Forum Game] - The United States' Senate

    The United States' Senate

Before anything thank you to Frynomnom who have invented this game, I have stolen a lot, if not all from his amazing game: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...-the-Reichstag Please feel free to join it.

Welcome Senators and Mr. President to a forum game presented by myself, Hygge. This forum game takes place right before the 2012 Presidential Elections, and the election, along with who controls the Senate, is decided by who signs up at the beginning of the game. However, this does not mean that sign-ups are closed after the first election. You may jump in at anytime. Signups are ALWAYS open.

    Rules and Procedures

First of all we assume that there are no house of representatives.

The game is rather simple. Everyone roleplays their own, made-up character, while you get to create a background, birth date, location, and political party of their choosing. Later on in this post there will be a list of available political parties for you to join. Now, while most people will play as senators, there are two persons who will sign up to be the leader of the nation. The first who sign up in the first round are the two nominees for the two parties. This is done so that the game can start fast. We, by the way, assume that Barack Obama has decided NOT to run for reelection because of his sick wife. The parties are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
The players will then vote for who shall become president, the one with the most votes will properly win. The reason I write properly is that I also throw a dice and if it is a close call the dice will decide who wins.

The next round will then have two primaries where the individual parties can nominate a candidate. Who will then run for the presidency. And the players will then vote again.
There are only two parties but each have three branches which the players can join. If a player can find 3 or more players they can form their own branch. But it needs to be run by me first. Send me a PM. One cannot form their own party.

    The current branches are:

    Republican:

Christian Republicans: free religion, low taxes and no gun control.

Libertarian Republicans: No taxes and no federal government.

    Moderate Conservatives: Compromise seeking center.

    Democrats:

Socialists: Free Healthcare, Free Education and tax the rich.

Blue Dog Democrats: Right winged democrats, still like government intervention but not too much.

    Moderate Democrats: Compromise seeking center.

Every year the first thing the senate must do is to make a budget for the next year, and then the floor is open for all kinds of legislation. But remember! Most of the American public is moderate and won’t like extremes.

Now, updates are rather simple in this game. There will be Crisis Updates, which will give the Senate something to debate over and pass laws for. The next type would a War Update, which gives the President and the Senate something to debate over, if funds should be opened up for war, or what the Senate can do for the war effort, building ships, hiring more soldiers, and so on. The President and the Senate will be solely responsible for the rise (or downfall) of the United States of America should they not react to world events and the economy. The final type of update is the Election Update. Although the first Senate is determined by the players signing up, all the rest are decided by elections, in which how well the current ruling part handled the country is going to effect the results immensely there will also be thrown a dice for a x factor. When this happens, even though there may be more players in the Democratic Party, The Republican Party is the ruling party. Remember even though you are in a minority you can still try to make compromises and in that way get your legislation through.

There are three types of players, The President, The Majority Leader, and the Senate members. The President has the power to run the Military, Veto Bills he does not seem favorable, and appoint a Majority Leader and the three Secretaries. The Majority Leader’s job is to try to run the Senate and get bills and legislation passed to help the United States, though he should maybe also think about how the legislation can effect this own party and their chances of winning the next elections. The Senate members are the average politicians, who will debate their cause, try to help the American people, (plus their donors) and ultimately try to keep their party in power.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

    Faction: Libertarian Republican
Biography: Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Justin Reynolds is determined to bring the Republican Party - and in particular, Libertarianism - to power in the largely Democrat state he was born in. He is a strong supporter of fiscal conservative policies, particularly a lack of government intervention in the economy, and combines this with social policies of the Democrats to provide the "freest" life for all people, economically and socially. He despises heavy government intervention as well as social conservatism. It is almost a wonder how Reynolds was even elected in the heavily-Democrat New York.

Bio: Born in 1954, William was surrounded by staunch Conservatives all his childhood and was heavily influenced by his Republic uncle, who was a local leader, he grew into and eventually adopted these customs and beliefs. In 1973, aged 19, William was drafted into the War in Vietnam and served there for the last two years until the American pull out. Shortly after that he begin his political career, first by getting elected to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen(BMA) as an Alderman in his hometown of Kingsport. In 1979, after four years as Alderman, two consecutive terms, he ran for mayor. He won barely with just over 56% of the vote and managed Kingsport exceptionaly. In 1981, after his term had finished, he did not seek re-election but instead decided to take his chance in the Senate. A huge step from his previously small town politician to a national level politician seemed almost impossible, but with good negotiation and good contacts, he secured a Republican nomination for Senator. After many donations and a well planned campaign, William succeeded and was elected. His experience has grown considerably due to his 31 years and still going in the Senate. Who knows what the future holds for him?

    Faction: Libertarian

Born on the 11th of February, 1977, to a successful businessman and a well-known socialite mother, C.E. Huntington would have had no lack of wealth and connections had he chosen the easy way into politics. Instead, after graduating from Marshall University with degress in Economics and History, he joined the military, serving in Iraq from 2001 until 2003.

Returning home, he chose not to join his fathers' business, electing to become a journalist and commentator (writing for both local and national papers); it was during a professional outing in late 2006 that he first heard then presidential candidate Ron Paul. Doing more research, and becoming more politically active, Huntington quickly registered as a Republican and put himself on the ballot for State Senator.

He would win that office by only two percent; in this office, he would gain strong support from his constituents, a wealth of experience, and refused to bow to party politics, breaking from the GOP on issues such as Gay Marriage and the War on Drugs (adn certainly the War on Terror).

In 2011, he defeated John Raese in the Republican primary to fill Robert Byrd's former Senate seat, and the dark horse candidate would go on to do the same to popular Democratic governor, Joe Manchin. Entering the Senate hall, at the ripe old age of thirty-two, he hopes that he, along with the other libertarian leaning members of the Senate, can change America for the better.

((So, umh, how exactly are elections going to work? For the presidents, is it just going to be Barker and Cooper, and whoever else announces a run, or will people like Santorum, Paul, and whoever ran (or could possibly have run) for the Democrats be possible nominees? For the Senate, I suppose you're just going to roll the dice and determine how many Senators each party gets (unless, of course, we magically manage to manipulate a massive mass of manpower into meandering with us, and maintaining those multitudes of men in meaninful mean of time...)))

Ray Cooper anounced in a press conference earlier today his stance on the 10 issues.
    1. Economic development, the growth of income and job opportunities: I will invest in Clean Energy, which will lower gas prices and create millions of jobs.
    2. Education for their children: I believe in improving our education system and lowering college prices
    3. The wars in the middle east: ending them soon, and then staying out of foreign affairs and focusing on our economy, not military
    4. Gas prices: Investing in clean energy, which will lower gas prices
    5. Healthcare for or against it: for it, giving government, or at least government sponsored, to everyone.
    6. Gay Rights: Equal rights to all people, including gays
