Yes, that event is supposed to fire for China, republic or empire.
Nice!

So will Asia give tribute to China like during the ages of the empire, or will it simply have economic and diplomatic influence?
The (small) tributes and the bowing are merely gesture today. It's the control of trade and external affairs is what's important. More of this next update.

A Gift for Kublai

The way to the islands were blocked by the IJN. With only one battlefleet active, the ROCN hopes that the Japanese are weaker. This hope turned out to be true as the battleships of Japan couldn't come into range to fire their salvo to the Chinese battlefleet without getting hit by the naval planes dominating the sky. The Bushido spirit went first before sense and they repeatedly charged the battlefleet even without adequate escorts and anti-air.

Another Japanese battleship sunk

In the morning of the 28th of July 1947, the Marines have boarded their ships from Busan, Korea and landed in Yuya Bay near Hiroshima. The suggestion to land near Fukuoka was outrightly rejected as it might jinx the invasion. The landing was proved to be very difficult. More difficult than Formosa. The 1st Marine division was decimated by the strongest part of the enemy resistance, artillery and air support. More than two-thirds of the division were killed or wounded. Most were drowned by the sinking transports crippled by suicidal Japanese planes crashing into the ships. The survivors who reached the beach were shredded by the new terrifying machine gun, and a futuristic weapon that has the reach of a rifle and the firepower of a submachine gun. Crates of these weapons and ammo were found later on. This smells like a ploy from the Kaiser.
Despite high casualties, the landings were a success against the outnumbered Japanese army. The fight went on until Hiroshima fell in August 13. The foothold in Japan is now secured.

that the Mongol invasion was also stopped by the 'Kamikaze' super-typhoon that sank the Mongol fleet.

The German MG-45, an improved weapon from the MG-42, was born out of the experience from the 2nd Weltkrieg.

the 'Dragonfly' machine-pistol (a variant of the Papasha), and more ammunition than
the 'Sparrow' bolt action rifle (a variant of the Lee-Enfield).

The flood of Chinese forces rushed through the breach. The transport ships were tirelessly shipping men and equipment from Busan to Hiroshima. The Chinese army then pushed outward to wards Nagasaki to the east, and Kyoto-Osaka to the west. Then the advance was ordered to stop. The merchant navy was gutted by the Japanese submarines. The entire 15-day push was haunted by this logistical issue, yet the Chinese went on pillaging both military and civilian areas for supplies and rations. The line become overstretched and were forced to stay put until the merchant navy recovers.

frontline43_zpsf218807c.png

During the quiet months of the invasion, the ROCAF continues with its destructive campaign who were well-supplied from their bases in Busan and Vladivostok. By September, the effective/base industry rating was reduced into 20/14 from 69/46 after the liberation of Korea. By December when the offensive restarted, the Japanese military can no longer sustain itself as the economy is in total wreckage. Hunger is commonplace in Japanese society with the military trying to take whatever is left in the rubble and smoke.

The breakthrough was exploited quickly by going deep and surround the forces in Shizuoka. Unfortunately, the armour forces are too weak too keep the pocket, adding in the declining number of the ships of the merchant navy. The pocket escaped annihilation and fall backed to Tokyo.

frontline45_zpsa0eb5cfb.png

The siege of Tokyo started near the end of the year, and and it wasn't only until the 30th of January 1948 when the merchant navy recovered was the order for the assault was given. The siege of Tokyo went on until weakened divisions were wiped out, refusing to surrender. Only 3 out of 11 divisions were functioning when the battle was won.

battle47_zps6396d566.png

The Battle of Akita and the Siege of Kanazawa were the last major battles in this conflict before the official Japanese surrender. But several independent forces continue the hostilities in the Pacific islands and in the Kamchatka peninsula. Total victory was achieved in the 21st of March 1948.

With that in mind, I find it easy to imagine that mass suicides among the Japanese military and populace were a hundredfold greater in size than in OTL.

Wow, Japan was simply overran! Impressive developments. By the way, do you mind if I ask for a few explanations? I might have missed this out, but who is president of American Union State? What happened to good ol' Huey Long?

I'm staying because of the Tropico reference a few chapters back.

Their cream of the crop was destroyed in the mainland. They were tough. The maneuverability of the tanks won the battles. I was expecting that their home islands are weak, and I was right. Also, I took the gamble that the IJN is weaker. If my only fleet was destroyed during the invasion, I would probably have cried.

The AUS president is their security minister, and the vice-president is Hasley. I really don't know how that happened. Long was defeated by Father Coughlin in the election, and in turn Father Coughlin was overthrown by Kuhn. I don't know what happened after that. That's all I can get by checking the save game.

Chapter IX: War of Ideologies

“China is now suffering from poverty, not from unequal distribution of wealth. Where there are inequalities of wealth, the methods of Marx can, of course, be used; a class war can be advocated to destroy the inequalities. But in China, where industry is not yet developed, Marx's class war and Dictatorship of the Proletariat are impracticable.”
- Sun Yat-Sen (1924)
------------------------------------------------

The Shanghai Network

The Young China Party have put their plans into motion now that the war has ended against Japan. The grand scheme was called the “Great Far-East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere Bill”. They have proposed that the President should become a ceremonial office, and that its powers will be transferred to the Premier. It is also proposed that any cabinet appointment must be approved first by the parliament (former General Assembly).

The Middle Republic and the Great Far-East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere

The Young China Party have put their plans into motion now that the war has ended against Japan. The grand scheme was a call for a constitutional reform.

The Middle Republic, or 'Zhongguo'* in Chinese, is seen as a continuation of the old ancient state, but on a modern Republican form and with some revision.

*Sidenote: The government of Nanjing has invested heavily on nudging aside the old meaning of 'Zhongguo' from “Middle Kingdom” into “Middle Republic” or “Middle State” when the Chinese word is being translated into other languages, particularly German and English. Though its former term is deemed acceptable by Chinese scholars if it is used in historical context. This should not be confused with the term 'Zhonghua Minguo', or Republic of China, which is the formal title of the country.

In the old tributary system, the Emperor is seen as the ruler of the entire universe with China sitting in the middle of it. The outer rings uncontrolled directly were governed by “barbarian” kings all bowing to the “Son of Heaven”. Some already bows to the Emperors, seeing him as their superior, some just... doesn't realise this yet. Sending tribute to the Emperor is a must if a country wants to conduct trade with China. So, all neighbours of China bowed to the Dragon Throne, including several Europeans who reached the Far East. The “submission” were driven by economic incentives instead of actually Chinese political power, however, the Chinese took it on face value and were cursed with the delusion that they are the superior force in the world even against the Europeans. A hard lesson they have learned later on.

middlekingdom_zps10b2cfa8.png

The new tributary system would be headed by the Supreme Honorary Sun (pronounced as 'Soon' rather than 'San'), a title came from the surname of the founding father of China himself. This title will replace the position of president as the head of state, and is officially considered as the heir of the Emperors. The term, 'president', is still being used by the outside world especially the German and American media for its simplicity. The new title is require as the presidents and kings of the tributary state would seem equal for the former and lesser for the later in comparison with the Chinese head of state, whom they are suppose to be swearing their allegiance to. The office now only performs ceremonial duties and the SHS is bounded by the new constitution to resign from their political party and refrain on commenting on public regarding their government, but only in private during a weekly visit from the prime minister.

madamesun2_zps71e10fb3.png

The still widely popular Madame Sun was chosen as the “face of the country”.
Ironically, this reform save her from disgrace as the economy slides slowly into its first recession.

One would think that this is somewhat similar to the office of Augustus, as the title is considered as the head of a republican government. But this office is deemed as republican, not a step back to the past, as they argued that the SHS is chosen by popular vote. Making sure that the most charismatic candidate will end up in an office which requires that charisma to build relations with the tributary states and the nations of the world.

The General Assembly will be called as the Parliament. The Premier is now the head of the government and the executive branch, chosen by the parliament. Any cabinet appointments must have the approval of the parliament. In effect, changing the government from a Presidential system to a Parliamentary one.

The new system makes the head of state of each tributary countries, whether there is a new SHS or a new president/king, visit Nanjing and renew their kowtow to the Supreme Honorary Sun with a tribute be given. Though the kowtow today is merely a simple bow. The change was made as the tributaries might find the old kowtow as humiliating. Afterwards, each state appoints a 'tribute mission' to Nanjing. It is a group of ambassadors which serves as the representatives of that tributary state to the Great Far-East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere, colloquially known as the 'Shanghai Network' as the sphere's HQ is situated in that city.

shanghainetwork_zps1ffe1892.png

The Shanghai Network is divided into two parts: the SDC and the FEEC

The Shanghai Network
The Great Far-East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere is a network that handles all the diplomatic channels between the outside world, China, and her tributary states. Being a tributary state means that the foreign policy is no longer under one's control unless the interaction is between China or another tributary state. War against another tributary state/China is prohibited and any disputes must be argued in Shanghai. Its military is under this alliance hierarchy called the “Shanghai Defence Coordination” or the SDC which handles all military and intelligence related agendas. All tributary states sends its own representatives into this complex. Siberia is already urging for Shanghai to take back its stolen lands currently held by Delhi. Japan is suggesting that the expansion should be towards the Pacific. Philippines, Indonesia, and Sarawak, to be more specific.

sdclogo_zps0569d159.png

The Shanghai Defence Coordination

The Far-East Economic Confederation (FEEC) is the economic club of China and the tributaries, giving better access for the markets of the tributaries from China, vice-versa, and between tributaries. While there are calls to further integrate the economies by establishing a free-trade bloc with an intergovernmental entity to mediate and regulate the bloc market, there was huge opposition from tributaries and the Chinese. As one Liberal MP have commented: “Just a cautious reminder that China is not interested in further integration between our states.” [The Shanghai Network and the new tributary system] “...allows the nations of the Far East to individually manage their internal affairs and economies while giving them a collective punch against the evil forces of Imperialism and Syndicalism.”

Korea was the first foreign proponent of this new outline as she benefits greatly at the special access the Koreans will have at the massive Chinese market. With little interest to foreign relations, the price of sacrificing its Westphalian Sovereignty and its foreign policy is something Seoul can stomach in exchange for enormous economic benefits. Not to mention, the shady umbrella provided by the might of the Chinese armed forces give Korea all the security it needs. Siberia is also supportive of the project. Only in Japan did they project received dissent, still bitter on the recent defeat and destruction of their homeland.

The Young China Party have proposed this extensive reform, due to their eccentricity of making a modern thing out of the ancient. Nonetheless, the Liberals and the Conservatives voted yes on the proposal, wishing to limit the Democrat influence by cutting out Madame Sun and consolidate their control on their tributaries.

The brilliant minds at Chengdu Research have successfully launched a “self-flying bomb” and reached record distance. This opened up new options on strategic warfare (i.e. economic suffocation). They have also developed a turbojet engine that can now be used practically. The applications of this invention can be done on various of items!

Ever since the birth of the Republic, its soldiers have fought on foot, with the exception of the cavalry corps and the armour divisions, only to be transported via train occasionally. Most of the time, the infantry marches, and enters the battle the same way. This is about to change as other armies have provided vehicles for their troops. The Chinese are now getting into the trend and have developed “mechanised vehicles” that will transport troops into the battlefield.

The Republic's first move to assert its hegemony in the south was a short but bloody intervention in one of Germany's colonies. The rebels, whom call themselves the Sarawakian Nationalist Front, have battled against the Germans for nearly eight years. The rebellion have receive substantial support of weapons, supplies, volunteers and advisors from the Eastern Syndicalists (e.g. Bharitya, Vietnam), which over time have converted the rebel group into Syndicalism. The defeat in Indochina was never forgotten by the German top brass and will fight for the colony until the end. There has been a big surge of German forces in the troubled colony since the end of the Second Weltkrieg. However, the surge was highly unpopular back home as the German public are weary of this 8 year insurgency with no signs of victory in sight.

China stepped into the scene when a group of Chinese were kidnapped by the SNF, and later executed for the suspicious that they were spies. The news was highly sensationalised back in the mainland, and the public is screaming for action. China sends its Marines to subdue the rebellion and put Sarawak into the Shanghai Network, before Germany does. The intervention started with a diversionary landing on Bandar Seri Begawan. When the battle was won and the city captured, the Marines immediately went back aboard to the invasion fleet before reinforcements arrive. At the 7 May 1948, the Marines landing towards their intended target; Kuching.

The Marines have been equipped with a brand new weapon unused in the field before. The looted German weapons during the invasion of Japan were sent back to the Shanghai Arsenal and fascinated many manufacturers and designers when they analysed the two weapons. Between the two, the new super rifle garnered more attention. With the partnership of a Siberian former tank-commander, now weapons designer, Shanghai Arsenal have produced a new assault rifle. This weapon have been distributed to the marines before the invasion. They shall be tested before equipping these to the infantry troops.

Kuching was under control by the more powerful German army and so any operations were conducted outside the capital city where German authority is non-existent and where Syndicalist elements thrive.

malaya1_zps525858ce.png

SNF guerillas

The Chinese will not imitate the German though. They aren't there to turn it into a Chinese colony. BIS (Bureau of Investigation and Statistics) agents were sent with the Marines and made contact with the other portion of the independence movement, the Sarawakian nationalists who refused to bow to the Syndicalist ideals. The faction meet the liberators with open arms, and the later finance and arm the former and promised Sarawak to them.

sarawaklogo_zpseeed8a47.png

The Sarawak National Party. A friend of China

Even with the additional Sarawakian militias, the Marines, numbering at least 50K, were outnumbered against the Germans (80K-90K), and the Sarawakian Syndicalists (70K). The three way war between Liberalism, Imperialism, and Syndicalism went on throughout the hot days of the Summer ranging from light skirmish and guerilla operations to large pitch battles and urban fighting. Casualties are mounting up on all sides. The latest casualty news on the brave Marines have brought dissent to the mainland.

Malaya2_zps87466d3f.png

German section patrol a village

The decisive moment have come, four months after the first landings. Despite intensive aerial bombardment, the Syndicalists have crept their way towards Kuching. Before September starts, Kuching was captured, kicking the Germans out of the colony. The German public had enough. The public opinion on the war have reached all time high. It is still unclear whether the Germans would come back so the bloodied 2nd Marine Corps fell back, leaving behind the two understrength Marine divisions to protect SNP base areas.

The transport fleet went back, teeming with fresh infantry. Assisted by the Marines, the ROCA landed and took the city of Bandar Seri Begavan and its outlying areas. Three enemy divisions were destroyed. It seems the Sarawakian people are swaying towards the Nationalists as the opposition are running out of replacements. By mid-September, the Chinese and their Sarawakian allies made a general offensive towards Kuching.

battle02_zps4b242e47.png

Malaya3_zps6a95ea0b.png

Nationalist militias trained by the Chinese marines

By the end of September, Kuching was captured, and the allied natives were placed as the official government of Sarawak, and the new king made its visit to Nanjing to be the new tributary. The Syndicalist rebellion hasn't been squashed yet, and so the Army will stay to provide security while the Marines pulled out and recuperate. Sabah was taken by the Philippines during the chaos of the war. The Sarawakian allies have claimed that the Filipinos must be punished for taking what is theirs (they claim the entire island of Borneo as Sarawakian homeland). The opportunist move by Manila was ignored in light of a more important agenda of breaking the Delhite hegemony in Central Asia. Germany never recognised the state of Sarawak.

Crane and Archer

The border dispute between Siberia and Delhi with her satellites have provided the perfect excuse for war. Several more skirmishes against the Delhians in the borderlands of China, Delhi, and the Tartar states have flared up with the Chinese being the instigator, but Delhi didn't help the situation by stepping up to the challenge. The Canadian government threatens Nanjing by pulling out its investments and projects in China. The Republic didn't budge.

The Chinese and Siberian armies have crossed the border in 30 September 1948.

The first phase in the war was to knock out the “Tatar states”. (Tajikistan was included in this colloquial term despite not being a Turkic nation due to convenience sake.) The Bureau of Information and Statistics have fed the Armed Force of the Republic of China (Zhōnghuá Mínguó Guójūn) vital information regarding the enemy states. The Tatar states were designed to be very centralised, following the Delhian model of governance. It is hypothesised that the Tatars' resistance will break the moment the central government is taken over.

13 September, 13 days later after the war was declared. Chinese tanks rolled undefeated into the capital city of the Kazakhs, Alma-Ata, as the sun sets in the western horizon. Petty resistance were reported in the northern lands but it wasn't considered as a major threat, and the Siberians are already in the process of dispatching them.

annexkazazh_zps5f9664f4.png

The next day after the Kazakh capitulation, the city of Osh was captured by ROCA, exposing the other two capital cities, Dushanbe and Tashkent. Chinese tanks proved again to be invaluable in crushing the weak opposition.

Operation Archer

D+15 of Operation Archer: the easy victories against the Tatar states doesn't seem to happen again against the Afghans and their Delhian allies. All pushes against the thrice-damned country all ended in inconclusiveness or in defeat.
Supported by overwhelming Entente airpower based in Kabul, the Afghan sentinels bruised and bled the ROCA for no ground to be gained. The 1st Marine Corps was destroyed. It is. Unfortunately, it's probably the last to get fixed.

Oh wow. I totally forgot to write about this. Argh. Japan is now a constitutional monarchy under the King of Japan. Big difference there.

I'll write about this in the final updates when I'm ending this AAR. :(

Timuriad

An escape has been found in this nightmare attrition warfare when a sly Chinese army group have managed to break through a cleft in the defences in the province of Peshawar. The end of the Year 1948 approaches and that seems to coincide the demise of the pro-Delhian Afghan government. Kabul was captured in 29 December. Counter-attacks from the opposition commenced immediately to retake the capital.

frontline05_zpsbd9ddd2b.png

-------------------------------

On the other side of the world, a clash between the navies of the two Frances happened near German Malta. The tension between Mitteleuropa and the Entente has risen to new levels when National France and Canada refused to recognise the new countries on the former Syndicalist countries. Attempts to reconciliate in various meetings failed. Germany starts to prepare for war once again when National France refused to return the German colony of Morocco after a native rebellion flared in the region and National France took over and never returned it. War between the two blocs maybe beneficial to our war against Delhi.

maltaincident_zpsb94cb5a9.png

The capture of the capital city have also removed Entente's feared air superiority in the country, and also allowed Chinese fighters stationed in Urumqi, where they are horribly out of range, to relocate to Kabul and swat enemy air power. The Afghan capital is finally secured after the counter-attacks were repulsed at the turn of the year. The ROCA tried to smash through Kondoz once again. The Chinese achieved victory this time.

By 7th of February, Herat is encircled and its garrison destroyed. Afghanistan was finally defeated, at great costs.

-------------------------------

China's secret nuclear reactor is finally operational. This will finally get us closer to what our visionaries have describes as “a bomb that contains an explosion of a thousand suns”. Next is a new light carrier model for the navy. Nanjing strives to keep the navy up-to-date as a new world power. The army received a new tank model which would serve as the main battle tank. The airforce received a new heavy bomber model, the heavy bomber is very obsolete in comparison to Western heavy bombers.

chinatech1949feb_zps5aac005e.png

-------------------------------

With the new base in Afghanistan, ROCAF can now fly in Afghan and Delhian skies, and strike their industries with the classic Chinese doctrine of economic destruction. The bombing campaign have started after the surrender of Afghanistan. The Principality of Delhi's relatively small industry was quickly razed into dust, smoke, and rubble after two weeks of aerial bombardment. The bombing armada consists of 3 squads of heavy bombers, each contain 4 air wings. Such is the might of the Middle Republic!

An overview look of the City of Delhi during one of ROCAF's bombing run

The Chinese army now proceeds into Delhian heartland with the cities, Karachi and Delhi, as its targets. The Delhians' very centralised governance, imitated by the fallen Tatar states, made sure that their defeat is final after the fulfilment of these objectives. There are still pockets of resistance in Afghanistan, but they are now being eliminated.

frontline08_zps4dacf3ee.png

nra01_zpsf2092404.png

Despite the increasing use and importance of armour. The Chinese army never forgot their roots.
Their famed 'Massed Assault' is still in used by the infantry.

The month of March of the Western calendar ticks in, the army have crossed the great river Indus, and the Chinese tanks are already in the outskirts of Delhi and Karachi. The urban environment have given the armoured forces a hard time, in comparison to the open deserts and plains of Central Asia.

frontline09_zps187b2c0b.png

Karachi was first to fall in the 2nd of March 1949. The counter-attack by the retreating Delhians was ruined by another Chinese advance from Western Afghanistan, resulting on encircling the hostile forces. The lone division in Karachi stood deviant.

battle08_zpsd6099fa4.png

However, in the capital of the principality, the fighting is much more intense. The battle have dragged on for weeks without victory in sight. Both sides kept pouring reinforcements in this crucial battle. The Delhians, however, are losing more men than the Chinese. Outnumbered and outgunned, the city of Delhi was fully captured in the 28th of March. The state surrendered two days later.

British-Canadian marines from across the Pacific have joined the conflict to assist their Indian ally. When the Prince surrendered, these foreign marines refused to lay down their arms and continue fighting as guerillas until their motherland rescues them. The ROCA made sure that these marines never leaves.

frontline10_zpse10c5062.png

The new face of Central Asia wasn't quite so new. The same states were reinstall again with their respective borders before the war, with the exception of Siberia taking her integral provinces. Even Delhi didn't receive a makeover (much to the chagrin of the more aggressive MPs in Nanjing). The biggest change is the new regimes placed by the Republic herself. The new administrations are all pro-Chinese and Social-Liberal leaning parties, and soon be all part of the Shanghai network.

Note: You've probably noticed all the Russian counters in the maps. No. Many of them are actually Siberian. The Siberians puts them on expeditionary mode to Russia and fights with Russian supplies. It's weird. I'm thinking about removing Russia from the alliance. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

In regards to the Mitteleuropa-Entente War, I'm planning to clean the colonial borders in North Africa and provide a good story on the two rival blocs to finally end this British/French-in-exile shenanigan. After Delhi, this alliance is pretty much hopeless against Hohenzollern Europe. All they have left is the Caribbean Federation.

This AAR is now approaching its final days. I'm estimating like, 2-3 gameplay chapters (including this current one), and one short chapter serving as the epilogue. My chapters are like 4-6 updates long so there's more to come, I guess.

I'd keep Russia in the alliance. Give the vodka drinkers a break.

Don't punish Russia just because the AI is broken. They are a valuable ally despite being cut down to size. I say keep them, even if most of their army is made up of SEFs.

This, besides you'll need them as the entrance into Europe for the final showdown.
