Thread: Thanks and Goodbye.

    Thanks and Goodbye.

    Hi Folks,

on the first run, i thought, VIC II with the POD Mod/ AHD 306 is a great game; a great scale game with focus on strategical decisions.

But after playing a lot of hours, i just think its a waste of time.

    I`m playing Russia, around 1900, Position #1.
But, its not fun to play. Its just annoying.

Every five minutes (second low speed) - in-game-time every half year or less - some annoying revolution will happening. Surely around Königsberg with 30T Men. Ok, click and point. In the next 3 Minutes there will appear about 20 pop-ups - "No survivors, all Revs are dead" ... Revolution cleared - ok, five minutes later or less -- again, 30 T Revs will appear in the same district. ... Ok. Beginning, Start with Step One ... To repeat every five minutes. (the same in the other districts ...)
Is that fun or realistic? The Revs are to weak to gain something, and I`ve to do my job by point and click ... And no possibilities to reform anything, even as a emperor.

Ok. Fighting against FSA. Upps. No good, because they can store about 645 T Men in one county, without attrition. Ey cool. I wanna do the same ... ups. My Limit is about 50 T (= 1/13) in the area ... Must be a kind of Magic.

But, it doesn`matter. Sure, i will became the Master of the Universe; it will be easy, because I`m on #1.
My oeconomy generates about 20K each day ... sure ... but now ... what happens ... Suddenly, there are only 6K deficit per day... And I`ve no idea why ...
Perhaps the Moon-Phase has changed or I`ve been jinxed by a Voodoo-Master?
What shall I do? No Idea ...Something happens and all I can do is to guess the reasons and counter-measures ... After I ve sacrificed all my chickens (by midnight) I ve stopped to play.

Sorry about my complains ... but it appears to me, that the game is just a bad click-and-point-adventure ...
I know that a lot of people spend a lot of time, to produce the game and the mod. And thats great ... but I dont understand the outcome. Perhaps I`ve missed some complex chart or something like that ... (please, dont suggest a browser-game to me ...) ... but a game should not be like work.

A therefore - goodbye and thank you for the good time.
    arbeiterheld.

If you check the reform screen, there's a list of the things your people want (you can list them by the percentage of the people that want them). Then you need an upper house composition that will allow you to pass reforms.
Political: Liberals/Social Liberals always vote for them
Social: Socialists/Social Liberals/Commies always vote for them
The percentage of conservatives that vote in favor of political/social reforms depends on how many people want a reform in that category (for example, since they always want you to abolish child labour, you can pass health care and some other stuff first). Similarly, liberals will also vote for social reforms if your people want them.
Reactionaries will vote for the revocation of all reforms. Commies will vote for the revocation of political reforms.

If you're still an absolute monarchy by the 1900s, something's wrong and that's probably why your people are revolting. If you haven't and cannot pass any reforms, then I don't know. If you have 50% reactionaries/commies, you go for a ruling party only upper house and then switch party and by doing so you choose the UH composition yourself. If you pick a conservative party, once the next year comes around, you'll have a 100% conservative UH and you'll be able to pass reforms (if your people want you to). Alternatively, you can switch to a liberal party on dec. 31st, pass voting rights reforms and other political reforms you want and then you will be forced to change to appointed ruling party once again, but by then it shouldn't matter. Bottom line is... if your people want reforms, get them.

You don't need to be so melodramatic. 'I bid you goodbye' and stuff like that is unneeded. You're not writing a suicide note, come on. You're not supposed to have to deal with revolts every 2 minutes, no; understand the mechanics and use them to fix the problem, don't rant.

Cheerio. V2's a complex game, and it's not for everyone.
For every subtle and complicated question, there is a simple and straightforward answer, which is wrong.

Well, you said thanks and goodbye. I'm not really sure what you wanted me to take from the rest of the OP, and if you don't enjoy the game, then that's hardly something I'm going to be able to change. Clearly it's just not for you. Plenty of others enjoy it, but if you don't words aren't likely to change that, and it's not exactly my responsibility to leap in and go 'No, you DO enjoy it really, you just didn't notice'.

    Oh, and incidently -

I`m playing Russia, around 1900.....in-game-time every half year or less - some annoying revolution will happening.....Is that fun or realistic?
In 1904, there were 365 separate uprisings which required the military to put them down; Russia at that point deployed more men to keep public order than they had raised to fight Napoleon in 1812. So yeah, I should probably make them happen more often, if we want realism.

I'm not offended. Just a little nonplussed as to the point of the thread, really.

After reading the thread, I'd smash something if I was Naselus.

If there was an indication of something being wrong that wasn't the result of player mismanagement, I'm sure Naselus would try and tweak it in the next APD release.

TBH, I might be annoyed if I wasn't still desperately trying to figure out what

After I ve sacrificed all my chickens (by midnight) I ve stopped to play.
    actually means.

What exactly is the point of this thread?

I'm rather confused as to what I was supposed to take from it, tbh; he seems to be complaining about a whole bunch of stuff, very little of which is down to us (and some of which is quite clearly just poor playing on his own part, like the multiple revolutions, or is frankly nonsense, like the 645k supply limit for the FSA).

I'm kinda tempted to sticky it.

I'd prefer to sticky a rant with a spelling mistake in the title.

I think arbeiterheld makes some valid points:
    - as a Russian autocrat minor uprisings are annoying.
    - as a Russian autocrat he has no idea how to reform his country or economy
    - as a Russian autocrat he has massive armies that don't perform well in the field.
    - using the decision 'Sacrifice chickens Novgorod style at midnight' does not fix the economy as promised in the tooltip.

Russia seems to be working just fine if you ask me.

I'm back to playing Victoria 2 after being gone for some time. The game has definitely come a long way.

Suddenly I want to see a decision called "Sacrifice Chickens at Midnight" that does absolutely nothing but activates if you do poorly enough.
