23rd of June 1941 11:30 Stavka HQ

A night long of vodka and listening to Stalin’s expectation for the war (Zhukov had to listen to Stalin’s dream offensive’s, he expected Soviet armies to reach Warsaw by mid August). Chief of staff general Zhukov knew he had to tell Stalin the truth about the strategic situation this morning at some point. He was going to do it right after the boss would enter the map room. Right now he was going to look at the situation himself.

Karelian & Leningrad Front

010-1.jpg

Reports were coming in that Finnish troops under the command of field Marshall Mannerheim were crossing the border near Sortvala. Fighting erupted a few hours later when a full scale attack was launched on our lines.

finnish.jpg

Finnish infantry on the move near Sortvala.

Stavka ordered both fronts to implement the plan that was made pre-war in case of a Finnish attack.

01North.jpg

General Frolov moved his reserves North to try to prevent a siege of Murmansk. A mechanized formation of the Leningrad Front was ordered to support the defense of Sortvala.

Baltic Front

08Siauliai.jpg

The armored reserve of the Baltic front did arrive at Siauliai. The two infantry divisions of the 8th army under command of Lt General Sandalov were ordered to retreat to Panevezys, to dig in while Konev’s forces slowed down the Germans.

01Siauliai.jpg

The Luftwaffe started to make it even more difficult to hold Siauliai any longer. Iraq declared independence, who cares!

09airbattleSiauliai.jpg

1st Baltic air defense did their best to fight off the Luftwaffe.

Belorussian Front

09Lutsk.jpg

The forces in Lutsk on the southern flank of Byelorussia did not see any actions yet, the foot infantry was ordered North to dig in the marches around Sarny. The battle for Brest-Litovsk to the north was still going on, but the troops could not hold out for very long. The Mechanized and cavalry formations were kept in position

02Wolkowysk.jpg

Wolkowysk is already under attack by German forces that captured Lomza, the divisions from the Bialystok-Lomza Bulge are in danger of being cutoff.

Ukrainian Front

Zhukov looked at the reports, it seemed the Germans and it's Romanian and Hungarian allies were very busy in this sector. Many commanders asked for permission to retreat or to be supported by the mobile reserves of the 1st Ukrainian Front.
Zhukov wanted to see for himself what the best place was to use these formations.

007-1.jpg

Przemysl is under heavy pressure from German Panzers and mobile infantry, a retreat should be ordered soon.

008-1.jpg

Stryj needed to hold out to cover the retreat of the forces from Przemysl. But they were forced to retreat.

009-1.jpg

The forces around Cernauti are under heavy pressure by the legendary German 6th Army that captured Paris in 1940. Needs to retreat!

05South.jpg

Movement of the reserves and retreat of forces in the south. Axis forces are desperately trying to cross the first river out of Romania.

Conclusions After 2 days of war.
08occupation.jpg

Two cities are captured: Lomza and Przemysl

06T-34.jpg

T-34’s and heavy tanks shock the German troops.

03Battles.jpg

Three battles are still not decided, Konev is still resisting in the Baltic, Sortvala in Finland and the very important battle in Wolkowysk to save 12 divisions (some 140.000 soldiers) from being captured.

05economie.jpg

To feed are wartime economy we need to start importing energy, rare materials and oil.

Other news

014.jpg

Government and army high command agreed to start printing the first war propaganda.

018.jpg

The commonwealth forces started a offensive to break the siege of Tobruk, 2 divisions were trapped there after the last Axis offensive that started in March this year. General Rommel who got worldwide attention because of this victory commanded these forces, he is now commanding the first Panzer group part of Army group south.

The war in China was still going on, a Chinese collapse would be disastrous for us, the Japanese could unleash their whole army in China on us. We should support them Communist or non Communist.

07Serbia.jpg

The Serbian territory in occupied Yugoslavia under German military administration got a fascist puppet administration.

The German pressure is high, those high-ORG, high-STR units look scary when compared with your LOW-ORG, low-STR ones. 459 IC for reinforcements, tons of dissent... It certainly feels like a real Barbarossa :D. However, you have a high surplus of money and metal - you should trade them for other resources and supplies.

The ORG-STR is my first focus, get the divisions back to full strength.
I gave myself some house rules to make the fight more realistic, I did not retreat immediately to a better defensive line true redeployment (I’m going to fight them from the border, all the way to Moscow if necessary :D).
Also I’m not gone do gamey stuff like leaving caps in the line and letting the Germans poor in before I close the gap for a big pocket.
You are completely right about the trades:cool:.

Some Barbarossa action is never wrong, always interesting! :)
I hope the future counterattacks are going to be just as interesting:D!

26th of June 1941 23:30 Stavka HQ

Chief of staff General Zhukov had just returned from another meeting with Stalin, after the report he had given the boss on the 23rd Stalin fell quiet. No more raging about counteroffensives and other impossible goals, Stalin had told him: “take control of the situation, you are the specialist, I’ll be at my home if you need me”. Zhukov had never seen Stalin like this, but he was going to use the free hand he was given to the maximum, he knew the big boss was not going to stay like this for long!

019.jpg

He took another good look at his reports and maps.

Current battles

04Battles.jpg

A report of the 24th said the battle of Sortvala entered its 3rd day, but he knew the current situation was different. The infantry was ordered to retreat, only the Mechanized corps was still slowing down Mannerheim.

In Belorussia the situation in the battle for Wolkowysk was still the same, they needed to hold off the Germans. Not all Divisions from the Bialystok-Lomza Bulge (that had started retreating 4 days earlier) had arrived.

The army that had retreated from Przemysl to Lwow was attacked only hours after arriving, that General from North Africa is a fast one!

The three divisions in Balti were under attack from Romanian cavalry and German infantry, they would get support from some reserves as soon as possible. Zhukov knew they could hold this position.

Karelian & Leningrad Front

05Redeploymenttonorth.jpg

Russian spies guaranteed Turkey would stay out of the war. Immediately Six Mountaineer divisions from the Caucasus were put on trains to serve on the Karelian front. They were expected to arrive in the first half of July.

02Joensuu.jpg

The same air fleet that bombed Helsinki in the winter war of 1939 now bombed the advancing forces in Joensuu.

Baltic Front

01Konevretreat.jpg

General Konev had retreated on the 24th, Zhukov had the feeling the German Northern army group was losing momentum.

04BalticFront.jpg

At the same moment Konev reached the new lines with his mobile forces, the Germans attacked Panevezys. He immediately ordered a tank and motorized infantry division to reinforce that area.
Ten divisions of reserves were underway to the Baltic Front.

Belorussian Front

03Wolkowysk.jpg

Slaughter at Wolkowysk, the reserves had arrived on the 24th, the latest report was that 13 Wehrmacht divisions were facing 13 tired Red army divisions.

01BelarusFront.jpg

Brest-Litovsk had fallen in German hands today, Wolkowysk was now being attacked from three sides.

Ukrainian Front

02Balti.jpg

The battle for Balti had started late on the 23rd of June.

06Lwow.jpg

Lwow had to be given up to Rommel on the 24th.

05Balti.jpg

The first reserves arrived in Balti, it looks like we can win this battle. I better tell Stalin this!

Battles still raging late on the 26th

06Battles.jpg

Other news

02Production.jpg

Eighteen new infantry divisions were being formed.

03TC.jpg

Reports are coming in that we have reached the limit of our transport capacity, this needs to be better organized in the future!

03Disband.jpg

After the BT-5 tank failed miserable in the battle of the borders. The reserve divisions equipped with the light BT-5 tanks were not ordered to the front. One division stationed in Belgorod was disbanded, the crews were ordered to Kiev to dig trenches.
The other five divisions stationed in Nelidovo North of Moscow had to wait, this was because Zhukov wanted Stalin to take the decision to disband the divisions, or to let them get blown up by German shells.

Reinforcing them is always cheaper than building new divs. Moreover, reinforcements increase upgrade % in DH (because you are reinforcing divs with the newest models, not with obsolete junk), so it actually becomes easier to upgrade them to ARMs or better LARM models.

Japan will be considered the enemy? I think couping them to Comintern would be nice.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalin_(1992_film) there was a scene in this movie where stalins close friend, voroshilov shouted at stalin that it was stalins fault soviets cannot stop german invasion. In reality, Voroshilov wasn't his friend, but he did shout, as an only man to do so, after the failure of winter war

edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sword_of_Stalingrad this might inspire someone ;)

I hope this timë: they give Stalin a sword as a token of homage from the British people to the Soviet defenders of the city during the Battle of Kiev or Minsk! :p:D
But for the AAR i understand it would be fun too see me get pushed back all the way to the Volga River!:D

1st of July 1941 00:30 Stavka HQ

In the map room General Yeremenko and a few other staff officers were waiting for Zhukov and almost all front commanders. Everybody had to traveled from different front commands to Stavka to give a report on their strategic situation.
Yeremenko stood up and took a look at all the fronts, he was asked to report at the meeting on available Stavka reserves. He had analyzed al the reports coming from the front from the 26th of June to the 30th all day.

Battle raging on the morning of the 27th

Karelian & Leningrad Front

03KarelianFront.jpg

The battle of Sortavala was still going on, the red army again had high losses just like the winterwar, but so did the Finnish troops this time. A real break true was not achieved and constant counterattacks by armored forces of the 10th mechanized corps frustrated Field Marshall Mannerheim. Three infantry divisions from the Leningrad front are on there way to help out at Sortavala.

sovietinffinland.jpg

Baltic Front

02Balticvictory.jpg

The battle of Panevezys was the red army’s first victory. After this victory there were no more big offensives by the Wehrmacht on this front in June.

balticaward.jpg

Belorussian Front

04Wolkowysk.jpg

Wolkowysk, the battle to save thousands of red army soldiers from the Bialystok-Lomza bulge at the cost of thousands of casualties.

01Wolkowysk.jpg

The bloody battles around Wolkowysk don’t only create casualties, it also creates experience for our commanders.

02Retreat.jpg

Four divisions had not retreated fully yet, but it looks like we can hold out for another day Field Marshall Timoshenko reported. But on the 28th of June Wolkowysk had to be given up.

Ukrainian Front

05Tarnopol.jpg

General Rommel who captured Przemysl and Lwow in 4 days, started attacking Tarnopol on the 27th, this time he faced a formidable force.

02Tarnopol.jpg

On 30th of June Rommel’s assault got reinforced, his force reached 40 divisions. A controlled retreat became a rout a few hours later, the forces of the first Ukrainian front were too unorganized.

Rommel.jpg

General Erwin Rommel somewhere near Lwow. The General has been referred to as “the conquer of the Ukraine” by his own soldiers.

1st of July 1941 00:45 Stavka HQ

Zhukov and the front commanders entered the room, Zhukov first presented the ongoing battles! “A hour ago we got the news that Tarnopol is lost, Field Marshall Shaposhnikov, a plane is ready on a nearby airfield. Get back to front command and take control of this scandalous retreat!”
“Reports are also coming in that the Germans are attacking wit eleven divisions to the south of the Pripet marshes, the situation in the North of the Ukraine and Byelorussia is getting out of hand!”
“Good news from the 2ns Ukrainian Front near Odessa, Purkaev seems to be still holding of the combined German/Romanian offensives”!

Battles still raging late on the 30th (except for Tarnopol)

The Baltic fleet was send out to the northern Baltic sea, to show Finland our strength.

It will be hard to stop the Germans in Ukraine, because of open terrain and high enemy force concentration. Tarnopol is a high-value province in the region, as it allows the Germans to threaten several other provinces AND the Romanian Front (the provinces there are easily defensible due to rivers, but you may be forced to withdraw to the second line of defence due to German attacks in Ukraine). If you lose Sarny, the situation will get worse. I expect that you will be hard pressed in Belarus, too, as the Germans will soon be able to attack you from several sides there. It should be possible to contain the enemy in the Baltic states, though.

Good stuff!

thank you:D

Now, if Avindian approved, all's approved :)

Sounds good to me:D

That's a complete summary of the current status, although Sarny has not fallen yet in the AAR;)! There were more divisions underway to reinforce Tarnopol, but when i say that the Germans were up to 40 divisions i canceld them! Let's see how far the ai pushes me back!

THX for reading to all:D
