NEW YORK – July 11, 2012 – Hark, who goes there? It’s just us, an American and a Swede invading your land, United Kingdom. Paradox Interactive and Fatshark today released the first video in a new series of trailers for action melee combat title War of the Roses, giving an extensive behind the scenes look into the key locales and architecture of medieval England that have helped draw inspiration for the upcoming melee game.

Shot documentary-style on location in York, senior producer Gordon Van Dyke and lead designer Mårten Stormdal don armor and ransack the now peaceful city, enabling viewers to see firsthand the buildings, landscapes, armor, and lore that will become a part of War of the Roses when the game launches later this year.

The later episodes dig deeper into weapons, combat, and historical locations. Much more serious tone in those ones. :-)

Sounds like you had some good fun, but damn, those armours don't fit on you!
You're just too tall. But then, you're not going to use it on a regular basis (like some of us do), so why waste money on a made-to-measure harness... now please imagine that people were able to move alot better than you were, with armour made more fitting to the person.

Looking forward to the upcoming videos!

Great video. I'm from St Albans, so this video has made me even more excited for the game. Are we going to be able to fight around the Abbey as well?
"We're not easily frightened. Also we know how hard it is for an army to cross the Channel — the last little corporal to try it came a cropper. So don't threaten or dictate to us until you're marching up Whitehall! ...and even then we won't listen!"

"Hancock. I've got lunatics laughing at me from the woods. My original plan has been scuppered now that the jeeps haven't arrived. My communications are completely broken down. Do you really believe any of that can be helped by a cup of tea?"
    "Couldn't hurt, sir."

Serious from you Gordon. I would like to see that 8-)

Nice video like i said on the face book page. Experience is the best learning tool. No one knows what it is like to ride and fight in armour until doing it, so its great you guys went ahead and did this.

I agree with Project Angel a little longer would be nice.

I am going to be in Sweden when beta launches visiting my wife's parents. God i hope my lap top can run it other wise its going to be a long holiday

Zulhar, the answer, clearly, is to take a harness in excess luggage, talk to Olofsgillet, Per Lillelund Jensen, Peter Johnsson and the likes, find who's got a suitable horse around there, beg/borrow/steal it, and turn up at Paradox' office with a lance and tell them you demand their bandwidth in exchange for video footage...

they get more horseback techniques from an experienced rider, and you get the beta. Win-Win situation !

And regarding the video, all I can say is, I want to see what you got your hands on in the Royal Armouries, given the clip from about 1:50 to 2:00 was'nt quite enough for me to see if I recognised the sword...
"We had two bags of books, seventy-five PDF files, five sheets of high-resolution linework, a hard drive half-full of photographs, and a whole galaxy of armour, swords, pollaxes, maces... Also, a quarto of latin texts, a quarto of manuscripts, a case of swords, and two dozen fechtbuch. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious history collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
The only things that really worried me were the fechtbuch. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of a history binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."

    I like your Thinking Suzerain

Well I was thinking of a couple of options my self
Going on a mini crusade to the Holy Studio fully kitted up and demanding footage. (I have a couple of jousting buddies 2 hours away in Norway I am going to catch up plus a few more up north in Upsala I could call upon 8-)
Alternatively dressed as a monk on a pilgrimage begging for footage ( I think I prefer the first option).

Seriously Like you Suzerain I am keen to see some more footage of the Royal armouries also the mounted combat as this is what I am looking forward to the most.
