Glad to see this back up and running! Good luck fulfilling Manefest Destiny; hopefully Equestria will be able to prove that bright primary colors are no obstacle to military prowess.

1852

Unfortunately for Celestia, and Equestria as well, her speech had done enough to set the British off. Only a day after the start of 1852, a telegram was delivered from Victoria, British Colombia to Canterlot, listing out supposed infringements and unacceptable acts perpetrated by the Principality, ranging from "...distasteful claims upon Her Majesty's sovereign lands in the realm known as Canada, expressing an extremely radical view upon otherwise hostile nations that would strive to see the status quo destroyed, furthermore issuing in no veiled terms a call to small, detestable nations to align with your unsavory crown in an unholy alliance of sorts with the express purpose of tearing down those empires best suited for world rule and colonial administration." This of course came as a shock to the Equestrians, who had for the longest times figured it was normal for nations in Global politics to make grandiose claims of the sort made by Celestia only a few months back. It would seem that Equestria would be forced to fight for their new-found imperialistic dreams, and so it would be. thankfully, it seemed that the Equestrian mission of gathering allies in the Western Hemisphere would come in handy however, as all of her South American allies agreed to declare war on Great Britain as well, with many telegrams of support being passed from capitol to capitol, and even in the USCA there were rallies of support for the Principality as Central American troops began to march toward The Mosquito Coast. Only her European allies made no effort to assist, as they made quite clear that their proximity to the UK would mean only quick destruction. Celestia understood, and forgave Frederick VII as well as Ferdinand II for their inability to assist, deciding that they could reopen relations when the war ended.

And so once again, Equestria found itself at war with a much larger opponent, in fact, this time they found themselves at war with the largest opponent in the world, and the most industrialized and militarized one at that, much to Celestia dismay. It remained to be seen just how advanced British military equipment and tactics were, as there had been no actual wars the British had been involved in since the relative cake-walk of the American War of Containment back in 1845, where the British reported simply marching deeper and deeper into the US with nearly no resistance. So Celestia mobilized her reserves once again, retiring to her chambers to console herself at the break down in diplomacy, or general lack thereof that led to another war where ponies would be forced to bleed and die for the whims of the English. As had happened once before, Royal Guard Officers issued the call for able bodied ponies, who ventured happily once more to the barracks' in thousands, this time however, the Military administration made a point of having stocks of weapons ammunition and vittles readily available in case of a war, so of the ponies who came to serve were able to be equipped well and fielded in much faster time. Before too long Equestria had a standing army of 153,000 ponies, ~9,000 Artillery ponies with guns and a smaller number of cavalry to go along with it. Commissioned Officers were again issued assignments and armies and divisions were determined. One of the only odd choices for Brigadier General was Swan Firecracker, who upon hearing of the outbreak of war immediately resigned his post as Prime Minister and petitioned for a command spot again, which was granted with caution by Celestia and Luna.

Another first for the Equestrians was the actual use of their navy in the war. Last time around they'd had no use of the ships, seeing as how it was unfeasible to send their fleet all the way around the continent to tally with the Americans, so the navy had simply remained in port, occasionally sending units of Marines out with the Army to participate in the battles. This time around however, the Royal Equestrian Navy had an opponent, albeit a small one, in the British West Canadian Fleet, a small fleet commanded by Rear Admiral Nigel Montgomery and based out of the settlement of Victoria. The Equestrian Open Seas Fleet was ordered to make for the Straights of Juan De Fuca to blockade the Canadian coastline and force the British fleet there into being useless. Striking out from Manehatten on the 8th of April, they made sail for Victoria, but en route were intercepted by a small fleet of British ships, A single Man o' War and 3 Frigates, made battle off of the coast of the Everfree territory. The British were full of their capacity to win despite the odds against them. Quickly things went sour for the Brits though, as their Man o' War had it's magazine struck by a shot from the RENS Unicorn, shattering the ship in two and effectively deciding the battle there and then. The three frigates were easily picked off then by the larger guns of the Equestrian Men o' War. In their first naval battle, Equestria had defeated the greatest seafaring nation on earth.

Things were going badly however from the start of the year, as almost immediately after the war had broken out, the United States sensed a weakness in Equestria as the war began, issued another declaration of war against the Principality. Panic again began to spread in Equestria, but calm prevailed as their previous experiences had shown them that the Americans were less powerful then they let on to be, as last war had shown, plus, they were more apt to attack through Mexico and try for their constant Texas claim. It was in the end still the American intention to totally annex Equestria, supposedly due to insidious claims that the West Coast was 'rightfully' part of America. No amount of diplomatic niceties would prevent the American declaration however, and as had happened before, a state of war was once again to exist between the two nations. Sure enough however, the Mexicans and all of Equestria's other friends were quick into the fray, declaring war on the US a day afterwards as a group, and general mobilization began, with Colombian soldiers beginning to march for Equestria on April 13th. Equestria and her allies now faced two wars against two of the most powerful nations on earth. In congruence with their policy of assisting their allies for helping them in the war, the Royal High Congress agreed easily to support Mexico in their war efforts, sending them a monthly payment of 75,000 Bits, equal to around $500,000 a month.

Striking from Victoria, the British marched an army of 24,000 toward the Equestrian settlement of Conestoga, with a decent mix of Artillery and Cavalry to compliment the 18,000 foot soldiers destined to lay siege to the territorial capital. Receiving reports of the movement from local Pegasi scouts in nearby Seaddle, Shining Armor set out from Pinkville with 86,000 soldiers and 6,000 Cavarly and 6,000 artillery to dislodge the Brits. As was normal, Equestrian Calvary made first contact with the British entrenched around Conestoga, artillery facing the wrong way. In a fast maneuver the Equestrians arrived within hours, setting up their artillery and commencing fire while the Brits were still shooting the settlement in order to reduce the garrison. While the British Infantry faced off and delivered disciplined volleys, it quickly degenerated as the sheer weight of troops meant the British Calvary was smashed, and for the first time the English received a crash course in Pegasus attacks, as 6,000 of Equestria's finest descended angrily into the flanks of the Brits, while the main troops swarmed across the dead space and ran straight through the British lines, causing the English to panic and flee in disarray, only managing to save their artillery from the onrush of angered ponies. A good way to end an otherwise black year in Equestria, two striking victories in a long war.

My first real post ever, just want to say, nice to finally see ponies get some love around here, can't wait for more, especially with this last war, you can do it, Equestria shall rule the world! Including my own home country, Canada

Not really any idea, just what I saw on my front...throughout the war I saw maybe 11 through 15 units from the UK...seems they don't keep Canada well occupied...

Wow, that went downhill fast. America and the UK; if you can pull off a victory without territorial concessions, I will be impressed.

"British Conquest of Southern Equestria"

Seriously?

Okay, if you really think it's worth it, Vicky...

Southern Equestria is where all the Pegasi live; I doubt Her Majesty really has any idea how much trouble holding that area would be, even if she took it :)

Welp, Imgur is acting up so the update is delayed for at least a day...

I've gotten a few years ahead played...trust me, Great Britain is stupid when it comes to Canada...

1853

As the war was just beginning, good news arrived from the Royal Scientific Organization. Working in conjunction with the Mexicans and Central Americans, they developed for the first time a working breech-loaded rifle, the EF-52/1X, or as the full production name was, Equestrian Firearm, 1852/1 Series Experimental. Production on the weapon was advanced, and the new weapons were hastily requisitioned and sent to Equestrian troops in the field, mostly all now in Canada, save for the smaller army pushing into the United States through Montana. The results of the new weapons were instantaneous, as Equestrian troops now consistently out-fired their opponents on the field, getting off nearly twice as many shots, and in most cases killing nearly twice as many enemies as they suffered losses. This would have balanced a close war, but so far the war was seemingly lopsided for the Equestrians despite the overwhelming military and Industrial power exhibited by both the United States and the United Kingdom. So far, the Equestrians had pushed far into Canada, at one point coming upon the markers setting apart Russian Alaska from British Canada.

After losing nearly their entire military in Western Canada, and wishing to save reputation in the face of a spreading Equestrian occupation of Canada, Her Majesty Victoria sent an emissary to negotiate a peace, with permission to issue a payment for damages of up to £1,000,000 caused by British troops. The envoy was delayed on the way there, as the ship carrying them around the South American continent was delayed at one point by a Mexican naval patrol off of the coast of Acapulco. The mix-up led to a delay in the arrival of the envoy by nearly a week as the Mexicans tried to confirm with Equestria that he should be let on. After the mix-up, the British returned to their ship, admittedly lighter in goods as the Mexicans had made a point to make off with anything they'd found valuable onboard, much to the Brit's chagrin. Finally arriving in port at Manehatten under watchful eyes by the military and navy, the delegation and their Royal Marine escort were taken to the Manehatten Royal Hall, the center of all government functions for the city, where negotiations began in earnest. They'd carry on for three days before the Equestrians agreed to a low sum of £200,000 in reparations for damages incurred in Conestoga and an official apology from the British government.

On the heels of the peace treaty, Equestrian troops filed out of Canada, mostly all heading directly south into Montana and occasionally the Dakotas. In the south, the Equestrians diverted a 30,000 strong army under the command of Andrea Madmax, a mix name pony who had gotten herself a commission through extreme determination on her part during her only years. Her army was composed of only infantry and artillery, and still extremely weary from their long march out of Canada and down the coast to Mexico. They received little to no breaks, as Andrea was a ruthless commander, wanting to outmaneuver the Americans if at all possible and beat them to El Paso, clearly impossible at this point due to a large American army recently sitting itself in the area, 45,000~ or so, under the command of one Chester Wilson, a graduate of the American military academy at West Point and newly granted a commission after the last defeat at the hooves of Equestria. His army was well built, employing a decent mix of cannons and cavalry to offset the massive amount of infantry he had with him. Marching from Oklahoma City, they'd been laying siege to the Mexican territory along the border, subduing most of Texas and Colorado, only recently moving into southern Texas and near the Rio Grande. It was at El Paso that the battle know as "Blood River" took place at, with Equestrian forces under Andrea being caught totally unprepared for an attack as Andrea had still thought her army had managed to out march the Americans, ending up marching her troops directly into a waiting American line. The ensuing chaos saw nearly half of the accompanying Pegasi cavalry killed straight off the bat, being easy targets in their lazy formation for travel. From the start of the battle it was apparent that the Equestrians were at a heavy disadvantage, morale sank to zero after the initial exchange, but battle dragged on for a week nearly before Andrea was able to manage to order a highly confused retreat. Dead and wounded amounted to a little under half of Andrea's force, approximately 12,500 as the medics were able to figure. The Americans came out far better off, suffering only around 6k deaths and wounds, losing none of their artillery and literally none of their own cavalry. The Equestrians would limp back to Cloudsdale, their southern expedition in shambles and Andrea disgraced.

Coming perhaps at the worst time of all was a Griffon movement against Equestrian occupation. In the city of Seaddle, Griffons took up makeshift signs and banners, beginning what was planned to be a march from Seaddle to Ponyville, with the hope of a loosening of restrictions of Griffon landowning, voting and other simple rights that remained refused to the populace. At first the march seemed well behaved, starting though Seaddle, Territorial Militia watched warily, itching to disperse the crowd violently if need be in the interest of preventing a successful march. As the march went on through the city it grew in numbers until the local Governor felt it was getting to a dangerous size, and ordered the immediate dispersal and arrest of as many participants in the march. General attitudes toward the Griffons were negative anyways, as even liberals felt that marching during wartime was tantamount to rebellion as it retarded the war effort and made administration more difficult. The Militia joyfully set into the crowd, more often then not firing their rifles haphazardly at the crowd before going in with batons and other weapons. As the crowds dispersed and the Griffons ran madly home, there came out to be 73 dead and over a hundred Griffons had been arrested and were to be sent arbitrarily to prison for 'Terrorism and Sedition'.

Once again Britain proves itself incapable of invading anything stronger than Burma.

Though it seems the Equestrian General Staff is in great need of weeding out commanders who think its a good idea to trot across the Great Plains without stopping to rest...

Also, I'm glad to see this back on a semi-regular schedule. It seems like every AAR I subscribe to eventually dies a few updates after I start watching it. A most peculiar phenomenon.

homy_dog34: Oh we'll see what I manage to do.

OneWingedDevil: Welcome back aboard sir! Yeah, I think it's that Britain has most of their Canadian army way over in Toronto for wars that might come up with the USA.

Goals of the AAR!

AlH0m.png

Momentary Break

I really should have done this at the start, shouldn't I?

Well it's too late for regrets. I suppose some of my goals are a bit easier to lay out in hindsight, but oh well!

  • Become a Great Power-COMPLETE
Currently fluctuate between 4th and 3rd in the world.

  • Claim all rightful Equestrian Lands-Extended
Extended by The Equestrian Empire event, and later by Maneifest Destiny.

  • Spread Friendship and Love to as many as possible-In progress
Most of South America lies within the Equestrian Sphere and Alliance, expansion will resume sooner or later

  • Be a dominant Industrial power by endgame
Currently Equestrian Industry places it around 2nd and 3rd in the world, until end game though the position isn't secure.

  • Try to avoid a Great War
Simple enough, gotta wait and see.

  • Become a major power in the Asia-Pacific realm-In progress
The Annexation of Hawaii and Alaska, along with Baja California make this more feasible, expansion into Oceania from Hawaii will be key.

  • Prove Equestria to be more prestigious and interesting then Human nations-In progress
Equestrian Prestige is mid-level, placing it again in a shifting 2nd through 5th place, until end game this is also in the air.

So here you can see laid before you my humble goals and aspirations, at the very least I'd like to keep Equestria stable and prevent government collapses, as this is the 19th Century and it IS still a monarchy, gotta cling to power, ya know?

And remember, whether you have a comment, question, random thing to say, feel free to post it and I'll respond...Also please if you haven't already go vote for me please...?
