I don't think it matters, they wouldn't invalidate probably half or more of all the beta registers.

Tried it on Google Chrome then Mozilla Firefox, neither one worked for me, had the same problem as OP.

EDIT: Also tried Internet Explorer, same problem as the other two browsers.

Same problem here, cannot sign up. The e-mail text flashes once when hitting submit, but the site does nothing else.

I have also experienced the same issue as the OP. After putting in my steam account name and e-mail address, I clicked the sign up button and the field for my e-mail address just flashes.
