So, what is the better game and why?

    Hi everyone,

First of all I am sorry if this is in the wrong place, I couldn't find a better one. Any way the steam summer sale will be on soon and I was thinking about buying some more paradox games. I was going to pick from Europa Universalis 3, Victoria 2 and Pride of Nations. In your opinion what do you think is the best game and why is it so.

Thank you very much for your help!

well 'better' is hugely subjective, they are different in scope and focus. EU3 is probably the most polished with 5 expansions, and the scope for where you play and how you play is vast. It has a repeat value second to none. V2/AHD is more a focus on economic/social issues but with plenty of scope again to forge your own way. You can do what the game engine expects or try to stand against the system - try playing an ultra-reactionary Austria for a hoot. But again there are challenges to be had all over the map and it sustains a variety of game play approaches. Pride of Nations is very different. Its more deterministic than V2 and works on a turn resolution model not real time (but is very immersive, especially with its colonial and diplomatic models). If you haven't done so already, dip into the various AARs and have a read around. If you see what others do with the games, it may give you an idea which is the most appealing to you.

Perhaps if you said more about what kind of games you tend to like, what other games you've liked, and so on.
Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death .... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man. Bertrand Russell

Yeah sorry, at the moment I'm playing a bit of Hearts of Iron 3, Shogun 2 total war and Civilization V. Generally I like strategy games!

I think AndrewT wants to know what you're looking for. Do you want a game focused on warfare or economy, or a more general game? Do you want turn-based or real-time? Do you want a super in-depth, complex, and realistic game, or one that's slightly more abstracted?

Oh my bad, I would prefer warfare over the economy but a balanced game would be even better. In terms of turn-based and real-time I don't really mind. I prefer realistic game play that isn't to hard to learn.
    Thanks!

I'd advise EU3. Victoria is more complicated IMHO and I don't really like the AGEOD engine for one reason or another, so no PoN for me.

I would also recommend EU3 in that case. Victoria and PoN are both economy focused, and PoN is probably more complex than you're looking for, especially if you don't want an economy focus.

Cool thanks guys for your opinions. I have done a bit of research and I think that I will go with EU3.
