Because it's more of a get what you pay for and work for yourself kind of thing. Feeling obligated to help others is bad. Doing it on your own is nice, altruism is nice. But enforced altruism is socialism and is wrong. Because then you are paying not for poor people, but for LAZY or CHEAP people. Not everyone deserves free stuff.
Hold on there. Socialism is not inherently wrong, as long as it isn't forced on you. I'm not a socialist and don't think I will ever be one - but let's keep the politics out.

I agree that not everyone deserves free stuff - but that's up to Paradox to decide in this case, not us.

It may not be inherently wrong but it is inherently flawed as it assumes everyone will pitch their fair share if they are able.

Well the main argument seems to be that you aren't FORCED to pay this obscene price for this miniscule amount of content. But try to apply that elsewhere. You aren't FORCED to pay 100 dollars for a 10 dollar book, where 9 books will be given away after. But what if ALL books were increased in price by tenfold in order to "help" other people? At that point if you wanted to read you are pretty much OBLIGATED to pay for others.

It is when you think I paid CKII plus the other dlc 2 bucks more. I know it was a sale, but still it feels rather dreary since most of the stuff came free and all SOI did was to make the "play" button when selecting muslim rulers blue. And enacting stuff the AI can choose regardless.
I understand it's a bit different, but it's 100% better than the old system imo. That I can pick and choose the content I like, have it fully compatible(when the bugs are fixed) with any other combination of content, and never have my game abandoned because I don't care about the newest expo is great.

Thats not true though. You can make the play button blue by modding. But you only get the new muslim gameplay, events and art assets if you pay. So its a little more than you made it out to be.
It was included in "enacting stuff AI can choose regardless", since AI muslims have access to all the stuff even without SOI.

But you're not only funding for lazy and cheap people as you condescendingly put it, and that's considering everyone that has not bought the expansion is lazy and cheap, you're also funding the team that is constantly creating new content for PI. If you like to see a constantly updated CK even well after its release then 10 bucks is a small price to pay in my opinion.

And I did buy it for that reason, but I am explaining my misgivings with the model as I don't like paying for others. I may have been a little strong in my words but I've been on here arguing for like 6 hours now.

Guys it's over. The industry has changed. Paradox, the last beacon of hope, has fallen.

Just the mere fact people are defending Paradox's dip in modern nickel and diming business practices means there's nothing we can do.

Paradox will never go back to being the good Paradox we use to love.

As long as there's that one person who accepts the degenerate practice of the modern game industry, Paradox will continue to be blinded by increasing profits, and be deaf to public outcry.

It's over.

R.I.P - Grand Strategy

Ok this is just wrong! Paradox hasn't changed anything or betrayed anyone. They made this dlc policy very clear even before CK2 was released. Every one was happy back then. I don't want to insult you, but I think you have watched too much 4chan/reddit/internet propaganda where people are bashing companies for trying to make money to make games for you. Games are not cheap to make. They are not cheap to support with content. This is not the fall of grand strategy games. The depht of the game hasn't gone anywhere only the DLC policy has changed and thats because people where complaining that the EU3 formula was not good.

I don't want to call you a troll, because its overused, but I will say that you have no understanding of the situation you are just presenting very populist opinnion and not helping anyway.

The DLC policy might be bad for some people, but its definetly not the end of paradox or grand strategy genre.

In most current game forums the users will complain that they never get free content updates, maps etc. like in the old days.

In the Paradox forums users complain they don't have to pay for everything like in the old days.

It's called Paradox for a reason it seems.

I may have been a little strong in my words but I've been on here arguing for like 6 hours now.
I understand that and I did not take it the wrong way, I merely pointed it out.
But if you bought it for this reason and still feels scammed because some people gets free content I don't really understand. You just really don't like the idea of free content paid by a bunch of people who willingly paid for it?

Yes this situation is quite hilarious indeed.

No I feel each individual should have to pay their fair share to support paradox. Rather than relying on altruistic individuals.

You can't get everyone to pay for content, some people bought CK2 but don't play it anymore, this new content is a way of getting them back into the game and potentially buy the new expansion.

What is this "I dont like to pay for content when other people get it for free" You get the same content as EVERYONE else. You can then choose if you wan't to belong in the elitist faction that has the extra 10$ SoI expansion that the "lazy/cheap" people dont have and at the same time you are showing paradox that you want to see more content for this game.

Yeah I don't really get it either.

I think it's funny he just said that to a Frenchman as we just elected a socialist president. Oh well, I'll try to stay civil.

But by paying $10, you're telling PDox to go ahead and keep the price of DLC expansions high... which I don't want to do.

In the USA socialism has been preached as "wrong" since World War II. I have been a history teacher, and so I saw the damage that such "teaching" did to our country. No political idea is inherently wrong or bad. Misguided, perhaps, but not wrong. It was practically illegal to be socialist in the USA for many years - in a country that values *Freedom* for crying out loud!

I was trying to point out that just because someone (YOU in this case :) ) happens to think along socialist lines, it wasn't right attacking you for that.

EDIT: This is way off topic, but I felt it had to be said.
