I just got the MDS2 somewhat working but it still gives me a lot of errors everywhere. This is our task to help it along to completion.

Installation instructions:

1. Extract Rar.

2. Take the MDS2 V1.3 folder and put it into the Darkest Hour Mods folder

3. DO NOT overwrite the previous MDS2 installation. Delete the older revision and use the newer revision by itself.

Changes in this version:

# Massive amount of GFX fixes by Novapaddy
# Fixed overlapping issue with start and load screens by Novapaddy
# Fixed range issue with ECM/EW attachment
# Music will now play if turned on in Darkest Hour launcher
# China now has leaders
# Cleaned up the austria, belarus, belgium, canada, and chains_eco event files. This should make navigating these files it a little easier for future modders.

Here is some rules:
Every time you fixed something, just upload the files!
If your having trouble fixing a file just ask this thread and some-one might fix it for you![/b]
Don't add anything unless it make this mod work. There is enough stuff in this to fix already. Adding stuff on will only make things worse!
Don't ask if it's ready or not. It will be white noise that will make it harder for us to fix this.

So many people want to play this mod so I felt we can work together in tackling this beast of a mod!

1. Any and all bugs from the original MDS2, as well as any incomplete content from MDS2.

2. Several countries are missing ministers even though they are in the database.

3. Bug with 2005 Iran election events.

4. "unknown string wanted" bug with a certain usa event.

After spending about 2 hours fixing bugs in the event and scenario files, the game will finally launch! Some of the errors were pretty easy to miss, and errors that I myself have failed to notice before, things like an extra bracket, missing "=" and missing "type =".

Also, you still have to go through all of the minister errors because I don't know how to fix those yet. Hopefully someone else can.

The contents of this post go into the "db/events" folder.

If I can get them to upload, the contents of the above post go into the "scenario/mds" folder.

Can you put all of this in a rar? Its easier to download...

Yeah, Its really working!!! Events working, some minimal bugs, but nothing serious!!!!

I really would like to help you but im not good moding files

I know its not the most important thing now, but i can ajust the graphics of the game, the menu, etc...

Just to be clear, I'm not actually "involved" in this project. I just downloaded that work that Supreeme had done, and did what I could to help get MDS 2 to a somewhat-working state. In all honesty, I probably won't be spending a lot of time working on this project (I spend most of my modding time doing what I can to try and help Zokan with The Bonaparte Legacy). With that said, if I do happen to find any more fixes, I will post them on this thread and upload the files.

P.S, for some reason, Iraq owns part of Tunisia. :laugh: I'm not exactly sure how that happened.

Am I the only one who gets tons of errors when trying to load a saved game? (and ultimately, a crash)

Yeah, it happens to me too. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with minister personalities, which is something I have very little experience with unfortunately.

As of right now, this conversion is very limited and has quite a number of bugs. The only thing I really accomplished was fixing the critical errors that caused the game to crash before it even started. Although this does allow the mod to launch, it will still take quite a bit of work to iron out all the bugs.

For all the people with troubles with the minister files: The problem is caused for 2 different syntax between the ministers. In other words, part of the minister files are written with the old code and the other with the new code.

EDIT: Never mind. Just one file has that problem. The others have duplicate IDs.

I think I see what you mean.

MDS2 is using the format: Tag;Ruling Cabinet - Start;Name;Pool;Ideology;Personality;Loyalty;Picturename;x

When they should be using: Tag;Ruling Cabinet - Start;Name;Start Year;End Year;Ideology;Personality;Loyalty;Picturename;X

This explains why when the game is started, the error messages say "Unkown minister loyalty: Powerhungry demagogue". Since the format MDS2 is using doesn't have "End Year", the game is looking for the loyalty of the minister, and instead finds the personality.

That shouldn't be too hard, it just going to take some time for someone to go through all the minister files to make sure they all conform to that format.

Thankfully, as you said, several minister files are using the new syntax instead of the old one.

The other way around. Just 1 file has the new format.
By the way, the province "La Palma" (id 965) doesn't have owner (or controller for that matter). And why the map is so bizarre? (Part of the canaries in Egyptian hands, Iraq in Europe, Italy in Romania and so on)

Smarter question from my part: is beta patch 3 included in the rar in the first post? If not, that could explain the map issues. I have the patch and no problems.

Thanks to Arcangelus, that part has been fixed. I checked his minister files and the mod will now launch without having to click "ignore" on all those errors.

That's the good news. The bad news is that I, like many others, are still having issues with the map. CocoBZ suggested that the beta 3 map should fix this. I'll try it out and then post my results here.

Also, the issue with loading saves still exists.

Edit: CocoBZ was right, taking the "map" folder from the beta 3 patch completely resolves the map issues! This means that the next step is to fix all of the errors that happen when you try to load a save.

Thankfully, this seems easy to fix. Basically there are ministers that are assigned to the wrong spot, or have their position labeled incorrectly. For example:

This minister is written as: 87026;Minister of Armament;Geoff Hoon;1003;SL;Air Superiority Doctrine;High;Unknown;x

Notice how the personality doesn't line up with the personalities for Armament ministers. That personality should be used for the chief of the Air Force.

It should be written as: 87026;Chief of Air Force;Geoff Hoon;1003;SL;Air Superiority Doctrine;High;Unknown;x

Thankfully, Darkest Hour says which minister should be in which position based on their personality, so this is fairly easy to fix. It is just going to take some time to fix every single one. If/when I fix any of these files, I will make sure to post and upload them to this thread to make sure any progress isn't wasted.

This uses all the beta patchs of MDS1.6.

We are currently using the MDS map, converting it to DH map is not going to be possible right now. Like I said, we shouldn't do it in the first place.

I will be uploading the new version to better things. Credits will be given to people.

Good news everyone! After spending more time than I would like to admit, I finally finished converting MDS 2 into a playable state! This means that you can finally launch the game, as well as load saves. The map issues have also been fixed as well as various issues with ministers.

In the previous release, if you tried to load a save, you would have a ton of errors and the game would eventually crash. This should no longer be an issue.

Installation Instructions:

1. Extract rar

2. Put the MDS2 folder into the mods folder.

Also, to clarify, this IS NOT a perfect release. Any bugs that were in the original release of MDS2 on ARMA will still be here(obviously), and there are still issues with several leaders and ministers. However, the game is most certainly playable, and hopefully it will be improved by the DH community sometime in the future.
