Name:Helmut von Jagow.
Age: 54 (Born January 24th, 1860)
Political affiliation: German Reich Party.
von Jagow... upon being only ten years old when the Franco - Prussian War broke out, von Jagow was impressionable and admiring of Otto von Bismarck's policies and his capability to unite Germany. As such, even after leaving his home province of Saxony, pursued a diplomatic career during the dying day's of Bismarck's Chancellory and the birth of a Imperial colonial empire, and served in German embassies across Europe and Asia. von Jagow is now a nationalistic imperialist who aspires and agrees fervently with the policies of the legendary Bismarck, and the patriotic concept of Imperial Germany.

OOC: War is not inevitable at this point. If we had put a little bit more effort in re arranging the diplomatic scene of alliances peace could be achieved for a long time. Unfortunately, we didn't have the game time needed to do that. But if we avoid this war, which I must admit, is just about impossible with the Kaiser screaming for war like a barbarian and the historical Austrian demands being issued (despite that not making sense at all because of no blank german diplomatic check), we can still move around the alliances a bit. The ideal scenario would be to abandon AH and get Russia in a triple alliance with us and Italy, thereby isolating france and having 2 allies which have a unified interest in seeing AH lose a war for various reasons, ensuring that there is a good chance that alliance would stick.

SERBIA ACCEPTS!

BELGRADE - After urging from Tsar Nicholas II, the Serbian Government has unilaterally agreed to the demands of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This shocking revelation comes when many had felt the Serbians would refuse, and Austria-Hungary would declare Total War. The demands, however, were eased a bit with pressure from the French Republic and the United Kingdom, after a meeting between the German General Staff and the Austrian Government resulted in the General Staff storming out of the meeting, and refusing to give the Austrians carte blanche in their endeavors. Equally as interesting was a leaked treaty, which caused massive tensions between the French Republic and the United Kingdom, detailing that the United Kingdom signed the secret Treaty of Hamburg, which bound the United Kingdom and Germany to remain at peace with each other for seven years time. Foreign Minister Goldschmidt of the German Government was credited with getting this through the right wires at the right time. The world now watches what the next step of the Russian Empire will be, as it could determine the fate of Europe.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Herr Goldschmidt and the the entire foreign ministry should receive Iron Eagles for their diplomatic coup! Weakening the bond between the French and British; defusing the Balkan situation, all the while ensuring the defence of our nation! Truly magnificent!

Now only Russia stands in the way of peace... I certainly hope the Czar chooses peace over war...

I also applaud the moves of Herr Goldschmidt, and I apologize that I ever doubted you merely because I couldn't see what you were doing behind the scenes.

OOC: Unexpecetd. But can somebody explain why Russia can still set off a world war? Now that Serbia has accepted, I don't see how Russia could still start a war....Nor do I understand why the general staff was the body meeting with the Austrians, as surely it should have been the foreign ministry or the chancellor/kaiser themselves? And the decision to give the Austrians a blank check came weeks before the ultimatum was ever delivered, at least historically.

You said you wanted to mobilize. That would send the message to other nations that we are preparing for war and, even if we didn't declare war on anyone, it's likely that they would do so to us.

I would not have done that. And I have never, ever spoken of war. In fact I condemned open talks of war in this very assembly. We farmers must stick together and not let ourselves be divided by the accusations of the rich men in the cities.

I must commend the great acts of diplomacy brokered by our Foreign Minister, my fellow Zentrum party member, Herr Goldschmidt. It is through your work that peace has been maintained and the lives of countless young men have been saved. His victory is not an individual one, nor a one for the party, or even the government, but indeed one for all of Germany and Europe! I only hope that the Russian Empire stands by the advice given by Tsar Nicolas II and averts this war. However, we must not let this averted crisis blind us to our duty, and must return to more mundane matters. We have yet to pass a budget for the year. And for that, I leave the floor to the Treasury Minister, Freiherr Erich August von Hohenzollern.

I would congratulate and thank the Foreign Minister. He has done his job well, and the people of Germany should be glad that we avoided a general war.

But I would suggest we have only just reached the true crisis. Germany, our glorious nation, has, through the errs and ineptness of past governance, maneuvered its way into a tangled and dangerous position. I would, and please n consider this with recent events in mind, suggest that the Foreign Minister makes immediate and definite moves to capitalize on a renewed and enthused relationship with the United Kingdom. Our close ties with Austria have given the dual throne a misplaced sense of militaristic confidence. Our reliance on Italy has proven a weakness that Bismarck would disapprove of. We must avoid the hidden daggers of our veiled enemies, placed around the continent and biding their time, waiting to twist the next 'incident' into total war. It is time to evaluate our strategic position - and add to the diplomatic victory secured. New alliances must be forged.

Had their been war, I would shiver of the consequences. I can hope express hope that you, Chancellor von und zu Birkenfeld, have invested more considerately into our military expenditure, in light of these developments.

I congratulate the Foreign Ministry on it's success in getting an alliance with the British. However I repeat my question to Mr von Ulrich, are you saying I am not sensible?

((Putting the SPD in power was so I could veto bills, and they couldn't actually get a majority anyway. Also in peacetime I don't do much whereas in wartime I command the army. So, for me at least wartime is definitely funner then peace.))
