Durand really is a hero on these forums. Each of those twenty some posts he's made each saved someone's self-esteem. He might not post often, but each post does count.
For example, he taught me not to expect rational posts toward the end of this thread's lifespan!
WHY DO I KEEP GETTING DRAGGED BACK UGH
go ahead and say I'm an Elitist Jerk ... oh wait.. that would be a personal attack Just calling some one elitist on the other hand is only gently taking the person to task for alienating others and responding to "justified and non-hateful" postings that serve to only try to flame a "trainwreck" even more.

That would certainly be delightful :P
I did enjoy both sides in this really, trying to peg who fit into which "faction" was enjoyable...apparently everything has to be absolute on this forum. You either hate everything about MM or love everything, and depending on where you fall you start flaming and trolling. Oh well, that's a forum for you.

I don't see how his post is condescending. They were criticisms - yes - but for them to be condescending criticisms, there had to be some sort of element that demeans the relative position of a target party.
It sounds like you are one of those who promote this model of bipartisanship, since I frankly don't see that being a realistic representation of the majority of participants here.
Many here who critiqued the handful of troublesome MM devs also applauded the efforts, dedication, and creativity of the MM team as a whole. That bit should become apparent when you pay attention to what others wrote and stopping assign them your own personal boolean label.
Oh... so I suppose you are above and beyond others here who would keep posting until the end. This is coming from someone who just accused another of being condescending just a page ago.Originally Posted by Zhetone

After seeing repeated statements from Zolotaya and Ubik (on the UV forums) that this game is not dead, I would like to ask if perhaps Zolotaya could outline just exactly how this game could be saved and what the chances of that actually happening are. I would like to play this game one day but I have trouble seeing how this can still happen with the knowledge of what we (the forumites) currently know.
The general sat, and the lines on the map, moved from side to side.
While I think Helius and Zolotaya haven't done themselves any favors in winning fans in this case I don't think Z was trying to imply that the poster wasn't "elite" because they didn't have any games registered. In a lot cases when somebody posts without any games registered it's a sock puppet account. Either somebody saying something they don't want to on their main account or somebody is trying to claim neutrality. This might not be the case but I can't fault Z for thinking it might be.

You should consider this with the context that the far majority of game forums (official or not) do not require game registration. In fact, this very requirement is more of an exception than a rule in the wider gaming community, which by and large, is not even remotely loaded with constant paranoia over sock-puppets.
But with this aside, I'd add that Zolotaya didn't even accuse him of being a sockpuppet. Rather she questioned his qualification to opine on the matter because of his infrequent participation in this medium.
I admit I am guilty of a slight bit of hypocrisy. On one hand I wish this would end but on the other, I just can't look away and I find it hard not to enjoy the atmosphere at times.
Oh well...such is life! I enjoyed your posts quite a bit at times, by the way. Quite humorous. I don't know if my opinion would change were I on the receiving end of your jokes but I guess I'll never have to find out.
All this blather about how MM developers are showing "poor PR" is pretty silly at this point IMO - the game is over and being polite on a forum won't change that, and they have a right to be angry after the first 20 pages or so of this thread was largely people saying "LOL, Magna Mundi always sucked because piracy modifiers." and the like.
And I can't be mad at the MM team (as opposed to Ubik and his lawsuit, that's very obnoxious IMO). They overreached: they tried to add too many features and it never came together. But Paradox "overreaches" (or at least doesn't play it safe) all the time, and that's what I love them for - they made Victoria II instead of making Generic Space Marine Shooter #234 (now with extra gray!). It took a lot of patches and an expansion to get the economy right, but I was happy to wait the months and buy the expansion, because Paradox essentially has a monopoly on this kind of detail in grand strategy. Paradox shoots for the Moon, and thank God they do, even though it doesn't always work out. And UV was trying something similar, so I can only see it as a tragic, and ultimately noble failure, not something to mock and deride.
Thanks to the MM team for a great mod and my deep condolences that the game didn't turn out, and don't let people tell you you shouldn't have tried - that way lies the blandness and cold-eyed focus-grouping of EA, Bethesda, etc.
I was going to let this go for one more day just because I like symmetry and this thread was open on June 18 so Closing it on July 18 would have granted a month to all those that wanted to comment on the cancellation. However the last few days have just been a series of personal attacks and repeats of previous comments, so much so that I do not think the debate has anywhere else to go.
Therefore I am calling this sad chapter closed.
