    Music DLC Worth It?

I saw that the Holy Land, Albion and Songs of Faith DLC have been released. Are they worth getting?

I play with the sound turned off, but I got them anyways. More money for Paradox, so they're good for that.

I'm brand new to the game, but I'm a big soundtrack fan and the quality of the music in CK2 immediately jumped out at me. Really beautiful. I bought the game with all the DLC, so I'm not sure which tracks are part of the basic game and which are DLC, but the overall quality is very high so if you're into having a good soundtrack with your game, it's definitely worth it. (Plus, as the person above me said, it's a nice way to support Paradox!)

Edit: should add here that I bought them as a package with the original game, and at 75% off. I'm not sure if I'd pay full price for them, as beautiful as the songs are. At 75% off, it was very reasonable.

They are nice to have, but I'd wait for a sale before you buy them. I've found better music by just listening to soundtracks like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, etc. The music in game gets kind of style after awhile since it repeats too much. Also, the soundtrack I feel for the Knights of Honor game is much better then the soundtrack for Crusader Kings II. Borislav Slavov has made music for Worldshift, Risen, Two Worlds II, Crysis 2, etc. Awesome artist! You can get it free, since it's freeware music at this link: http://www.music-marks.com/

Once at the website, click Projects, then click on Complete Soundtrack for Knights of Honor. Right click on each music file & choose "Save link as..."

Links to some of the music as posted on YouTube. Excellent example of the wonderful music in Knights of Honor:

    Bard's Tale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFLU69oiQOc
    Castle Dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqUOHp8fjGk
    Knight's Fall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZlfjmdnadM
    Lost Battle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icq86...feature=relmfu

P.S. I do own Knights of Honor & still play it to this day. I feel it's a great game & wish there would have been a Knights of Honor II. Think of it like a more simplified version of Crusader Kings II with better graphics, animations, but less hands-on control like Crusader Kings II has.

I love you. Slavov did some incredibly great work in KoH and was a key part in making the game great. If I weren't playing CK2 with the sound off, I'd have added KoH's soundtrack to the list - it'd make a great fit. It's a damn shame KoH2 won't happen.

As for the music DLC, well, if you can get it in a sale, I'd say go for it. Waldetoft is a pretty damn good composer too, and more of his tunes is always a good thing for me, even if I just listen to it outside of the game.

It's a little queer that you have to play as England, or be pious or go crusading in order to "unlock" the songs you just purchased (if that's in fact the case; I asked, but didn't get any satisfying answer). If that is in fact the case, I'd say don't bother.

Where is that handled, anyway? I see a songs.txt in the music folder, but all it is is all song files with factor = 1 set. So I don't see any diversification.

EDIT: Oh, I didn't know DLC music was in a seperate folder. Found my answer.

Or, you could just add the music files to your music player and have them play in the background. That's what I've done. The DLC songs are inside the zip files in your dlc folder. If you're using iTunes (like me), you can get QuickTime components that will allow iTunes to play OGG files.

no, the music isn't very long and there are better titles on youtube, if you have steam just press shift+tab ingame and open the steambrowser > youtube > type in medieval music or let movie music play in the background (Zorro soundtrack when playing in iberia, Kingdom of Heavens soundtrack when playing in the holy land or game of thrones soundtrack) that's much better then those couple of short tracks in the dlc :P there are also very good soundtracks of other medieval games (especialy Medieval total war 1).

    examples:

So if i just extract the .oggs inside the DLC file into the music file but omit the accompanying .txt files i can listen to the dlc music without special circumstances?

    *edit*
oh nuts i think i actually have to enter every new song into the songs.txt

But does that mean i can enter my own tracks? Do they have to be .oggs for the game to play them?

I've bought Albion and Songs of Faith, and they have been good purchases. The price is pretty low (1999 blue coins, IIRC), and the quality of the songs is great. Plus you support Paradox in creating more content.

Same here! Even though I got it in the Steam sale.

I have the Songs of Albion pack, and as I play England a lot it works well. I'd say they're worth the pretty cheap price. Not much different than a couple songs off iTunes. I really enjoy the music for CK2, even if it can get a tad repetitive after a while.

And kudos on the link for that Knights of Honor music! That'll be going on my playlist for driving to Medieval faires this summer.

As posted before me there are different medieval style tracks already on the net. Besides, I'm sure someone will upload a playlist of the music on youtube.
