"The Anglo-Maratha Wars brought Gwalior State under British suzerainty, so that it became a princely state of the British Indian Empire." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwalior_state
"A Princely State, also called a Native State or an Indian State, was a nominally sovereign entity with an indigenous Indian ruler, subject to a subsidiary alliance." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Raj

I guess this explain why Gwallior and Kutch aren't satellites.

Ah I suppose it was in limbo with the whole 'subsidiary alliance' concept. Still though it was considered part of the Gwalior Residency which makes me want to believe that Gwalior was atleast under the British SoI by 1861, thoughts?
