As I understand it - the state of Gwalior was virtually independant up until the revolt of 1857 when Gwalior fort was invaded by the British near the end of its uprising. Wouldn't this justify it starting out as a satellite to the UK by 1861?

I guess this explain why Gwallior and Kutch aren't satellites.
