New Age of the Roman Empire

P9150415_800x514.jpg

This is a new mod creating an extreme alternate history scenario where Italy is transformed into the Roman Empire through a quick and violent revolution. The events taking place in this mod are not meant to be historically plausible (As in, this was in no way gonna happen in 1914; but I am still trying to be realistic), this is only for a fun and (hopefully) interesting adventure. New Age of the Roman Empire (NARE) is built on top of Arms, Armistice, and Revolutions posted by burning for convenience as I wanted to make such a scenario as NARE last throughout every DH scenario possible.

This is my first mod release and I am not an expert in: Modding, History, or thoughtful planning. I will work on this mod whenever I have the time and will release versions as they are completed. There are no testing periods as I test the events as I go so there will be almost no delay between completion and release of a version. Because of my lack of knowledge in certain areas I need the forum users help in any way possible. Below you can find a Suggestion box, a bug report (of course this only refers to bugs that occurs within my events, I only deal with events in the Roman Empire event file), and a FAQ. This means you are free to question and suggest anything about the mod you would like [Note: For suggestions, if your suggestion includes changing anything that has already been done (ministers, leaders, etc.) tell me specifically what needs to be changed and give me a viable replacement. Telling me some minister is the wrong choice doesn't do me any good if I don't have a replacement. EX: (leader 1) didn't exist in 1914, but I see you don't have (Leader 2)... you should use him instead]. Suggestions and questions will be put in their respective boxes as they are said/answered so that if someone else has the same question or suggestion they can see it right there without searching throughout the whole thread (So if you see a suggestion or question in their box, don't say that particular one).

As ideas pop into my head about the possible future of this mod occur, they will be placed in the IDEA box below, if I get a good reaction, I'll add into the mod; a bad reaction and it won't happen. I am doing this for you guys. If I don't get hardly any reaction I will choose at the last minute whether or not it's put in.

Report bugs as they occur IN DETAIL so that I can fix them quickly and/or other people are aware of them.

Releases and updates will be kept on this thread so that modders, or modders in training may see the progress of how this mod was made. You are allowed to use my events as you wish as long as you do not release it in your own work (Credit me if you use an event or two, but don't go crazy and copy entire chains). Thank you

**DISCLAIMER**
I, lordmackie, am only responsible for creating the data for the country, Roman Empire [Tag:U36], and the event in the Roman Empire text file in the aar-events folder. All AAR events were developed by
burning (I assume since that is who posted it). AAR events are only fillers and background events to make the world seem alive, the main focus of this mod are the events involving the Roman Empire.

*RELEASE: 12:28am June 14, 2012 EST. NARE DEMO Version 0.1

Download

Alternate Download

Install Instructions:

NOTE: You WILL need to download AAR for this to work.

Create a copy of Arms, Armistice, & Revolutions -> Rename to "New Age of the Roman Empire" -> open the .rar file -> open 'New Age of the Roman Empire' -> extract the 4 folders into your NARE mod folder (Merge and replace when it asks)

Then play
! :D

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This DEMO release of NARE only consists of the events leading up to the creation of the Roman Empire and the re-mobilization of it's military. There is almost no alternate routes to take (This is very early in production) and you kinda need to go with the worse option until the Empire is formed (Choose Umberto II when asked, and give up your territories and claims when the event arises, also, decline every time Senussi asks for peace, an event will handle that situation later on.) Dissent will increase to pretty high levels while playing as Italy and a Revolt may occur (Don't worry you will soon a large military). This is only a small teaser of what is to come, and you can dominate the world as the Romans for fun if you feel the need to do so (who wouldn't?). The Event chain starts in June or July of 1914 and ends at the beginning of 1915. As you can see, there is no timeline or story written in the above introduction because there isn't one yet; one of the main purposes of this DEMO release is to get suggestions and ideas about what to do with both the current release and what you, the players, want to see happen in the future.
Enjoy! :)

P.S. I promise... the next release will be much more complete :)

razorbird789 has been brought onboard the NARE dev team. This will allow for a more detailed and immersive play-through than originally planned. Byzantium WILL be implemented into the next release and the story will be MUCH more complete than in the last release, both in length and content. While there will be significant changes in how the Empire is formed than what happened in the demo, the demo contains the roots and some of the same ideas will adapted to fit our story. We will continue to post updates as the game develops. :)

Well here's a small progress report again, we're redoing the menu screens from AAR. AAR has done a great job with them but it's very unroman. Here's one for you to enjoy. Burning we'll credit AAR on the Menu screen.

posted by lordmackie

The Demo was officially named as V0.1 and was made as an introduction to this upcoming mod. Another two releases are scheduled in order to give such a large mod an earlier play-ability and give a first hand experience of the progress of NARE. The next scheduled release will be NARE BETA V0.5 which will include a full story (with limited alternate routes) up until 1936. Contrary to other popular mods the interwar period will not be peaceful in the event that you go along with the main path. I will not give spoilers but there will be much turmoil and conflicts for the Roman people and may either Heavily Influence the 2nd world war, Change it entirely, or maybe even start it off all together. (NOTE: WWII as we intended will not be featured in this release, only the events leading up to it.) The purpose of this BETA is to give an early look at what the final release will look like and allow the players to tell us what they like or don't like in the mod. The next major release following the BETA will be NARE V0.1 FULL MOD. This will be the complete story from 1914 to 1964 with many choices and decisions for the players to make their own campaign. (NOTE: We of course will not think of everything by this release so while this will be the Full release, it will not be the last one.) Hopefully this will discourage any ideas of the mod being dead. I know many people have been wanting a mod like this and hopefully with the next scheduled releases we will give you that and more. If you want to make this mod great please give us suggestions, everything will be considered and you will be surprised how many ideas we could fit in here.

###SUGGESTION BOX###
Considering = May or may not be implemented depending on popular opinion as well as my own
Approved = Will be implemented in a future release
Implemented = Put into the game, available feature in the next release
Rejected = Will not be put into a future release of NARE

This is the third Rome mod for this game you know :D

A suggestion: Don't give cores to Rome outside Italy. Cores represent not only the government's desire for the areas but also the local peoples' and quite frankly I don't think the French, Algerians and the like would willingly submit to these guys who claim to be the guys who ruled them fifteen hundred years ago. They would most likely be seen just as Italians in disguise and you know how eager for example the Greeks were to join the Italians' "Roman Empire".

There is yours (Which I actually never got to work) and Rise of SPQR which isn't out yet.
Just another option for a similar idea. I do not know what the others do or don't do as I haven't played them so this is just my version of an alternate reality.

I know what cores are supposed to be but in the event that Rome succeeds in gaining all that territory, it would crazy hard to keep it if you gain any dissent at all... In my experience Authoritarian nations' revolt % rises really quickly in non-core territories.

Suggestion is added... This is still very early development and anything can happen.

There is a small dead fantasy mod

Dark Red territories: CORES Light Red territories: Regular Claims [They only have so many cores because maintaining that much territory with an authoritarian government would be hell]

There is what, 500-600 IC on all of that territory?
Even without cores on most of it, with a partial IC from conquest you would be able to garrison whole map with that much IC.
With cores you'd dwarf America

i'm going to be honest the Rise of the SPQR isn't gong anywhere fast, i'm working on Greece at the moment but have no plans for Italy yet, the only work actually ready for release is the first few events made by rommelstein who isn't working on it anymore.... perhaps it would be easier to merge our projects?

Yeah, your right, they will most likely not become cores

I was thinking that after the mobilization events there would be a series of decisions that allows the player to take whatever path they might like... decisions for claiming specific regions, alliances, and pacts with majors powers of the time, etc.

I will also download that mod and see whats there... might give me some good ideas.

What direction were you thinking on taking that mod? One idea I was thinking about but not sure about was the implementation of Byzantine and maybe a annexation event at some point... Or start out as the whole region under Roman control and maybe if Rome starts to lose power and territory maybe Byzantine gain independence and forms their own empire... I don't know a whole lot about the historical Rome\Byzantine Situation, only that Byzantine was technically the Eastern Roman Empire.

as far as my history goes your right with the east and west thing and we were going to implement it into the mod, There were events in Greece that would lead to the formation of the Byzantines. When they form Italy has the option to coup threaten war and then annex, outright declare war without threatening or threaten the new Byzantines with war which would lead to a peaceful "union of the Senate's" event that adds Greece as cores to Italy. I wasn't that keen on the idea at the start but most of the feedback from the forum was asking for an option of whether to have the Byzantines or not. If we joined together i could do the Byzantines and you could to West Rome. One idea i wanted to implement was a power struggle between Mussolini and the King Vittorio Emmanuele III. If Mussolini won it would become a Republic (SPQR). If the king won it would become the Roman empire. It wouldn't change much at all other than the name and the cabinet ministers. Possibly have Elections for the Republic(not removing Mussolini of course) but changing the head of government but the Empire would have the king as head of state and government.

Look at my footnote if you wanted to read the details on the thread.

Play the demo I have above and you can see what I have gotten started. Emmanuele III Dies at the beginning with his Son Umberto II takes the throne or Antonio Salandra as monarch. Umberto is 10 which leads to terrible leading causing unrest and an eventual revolution. The two choices I have for the Empire are Benito Mussolini for Nationalist Socialist Empire, or Antonio Gramsci for Stalinistic Empire. There are incomplete branches in the demo I would like to complete so the player can create his or her own Empire the way they want. This starts in 1914.

In my idea of the Roman Empire, the Emperor is HOG, HOS, and Foreign Minister as they would have been back in the original days of the Empire (Maybe, I would assume so but I am always open to suggestions)

I like your idea with the option to choose between a peaceful unification or civil war-y type conflict.

What if Rome directly caused the revolution/coup in Greece which let Rome annex them then later Byzantine declares independence creating conflicts between the East and West...?

If you have already done any kind of work with Byzantine I'd love to see it. and you are welcome to create a Byzantine for this mod (Just use this mod as reference to make Byzantine Events go along with that of the empires.

If you have any more ideas and would like to do this PM me. I'd like us to have close contact with each other to make this mod as complete as possible.

I think there should also be the option of allying with the Byzantines and give the Byzantines the option on their end to orient towards and eventually join the SPQR.

A similar suggestion is already being considered as you can see above.

and right now, it's turning towards the players only playing the Italian part of the Empire, as the Byzantines will most likely be annexed either through peaceful unification or war.

yeah, SPQR's dead, neglected by the owner

Rommelstein wasn't interested in the mod and i can't mod such a different scenario on my own i'm new to modding, the first thing we'll be implementing with the Byzantines is the chance for unification in three ways,

Peaceful joining of senate's. Italian Romans gain cores on Greece immediately. Low chance of this as Greeks become very nationalistic to form the Byzantines.

Two Roman factions fight each other because Byzantines won't unify peacefully, the resultant war turns Greeks against the Italians . After a year (or two) the Italians gain cores as the Greeks lose their desire to form an Independent Byzantine and accept the extended Roman empire. Highest probability if human player wants Greece as Italian Romans.

Byzantines and Italian Romans aid each other economically, technologically and Militarily. This is the best option as both will stimulate each other. Maybe a unified currency (not Euro just Roman currency). This is the most likely outcome if Italian Romans are AI controlled.

In the event of the Byzantines not remaining independent the Italians will not gain as many cores as a Byzantine player would (in Turkey, Bulgaria,Macedon and Greek islands like Cyprus) and their event chain will be thin on the ground compared to the Byzantine one for the eastern "liberation"

I've not run this past Lord_Mackie yet but we'll be drawing up a storyline soon and i'll suggest this if he doesn't see it first :)

I will stay posted on this. Just a question, though; does the AAR mod sort of fix the problems with the 1914 scenario? I mean, the battles I tried in it would last several months, and I am pretty sure it's a bug that dissent gets added multiple times in an event trigger.

AAR doesn't change anything from the 1914 scenario of DH Full, and we will not be fixing DH - wide bugs

I have yet to seen that problem with our events and the length of the battles were primarily because of the low tech infantry of that time. We will only fix events related to our mod specifically and AAR events that conflict with our events.

If there is an event problem you are aware of in this demo or something wrong in the 1914 scenario that you believe we should be aware of while we build on top of the scenario, feel free to let us know. We want as much input from your guys as possible.

Tell us want you want to see done and what needs to be fixed\changed in the demo above. (The final storyline won't be the same as that in the demo but will be similar in some aspects and events.)
