This is an extremely helpful thread. I too have been struggling a little with the concepts in this game, a big departure from EU3 and others.

I started my first game a few weeks ago, in Ireland, as the..erm..something of Munster. After a few beers one night, I sat in bemusement as, without my having a clue how, I suddenly began playing as a 1 year old, son of the protagonist which I had only a few moments prior been in (obviously marginal) control of, and who now became heir! Whilst I was a little befuddled, this to me exemplified the charm of the game...I laughed out loud at this bizarre turn of events inspired by my uninformed clicking. A clear, alcohol-unencumbered brain is obviously important to success in CK2!

On the brightside if the little McMunster survives his regency he'll have a heckuva a nice long-reign bonus! : )

What should I do? I know the game, I think, but it's simply not very fun right now. All is so very slow and depressing. I fear I played all too much (24/7) in the beginning.
I love the game because it'sa slow. I can spend an entire morning to noon just playing it. It's relaxing.
"A society that robs an individual of the product of his effort, or enslaves him, or attempts to limit the freedom of his mind, or compels him to act against his own rational judgment-a society that sets up a conflict between its edicts and the requirements of man's nature-is not, strictly speaking, a society, but a mob held together by institutionalized gang-rule. Such a society destroys all the values of human coexistence, has no possible justification and represents not a source of benefits, but the deadliest threat to man's survival" -Ayn Rand. Well, I finished my first real game as Ireland. I actually could have continued since my dynasty was still going, but after going from a Duke of a single county in Ireland to ruling over all of Ireland and France and then back to being a lowly Duke again, I thought I'd call it a day: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y10...536/ck2_25.jpg

Think I've got a good grasp of the game now!
