:wub: just so I'm wondering, which unit or brigades are useful, and which ones aren't worth the IC, or to research into?
I know each and every units and brigades have their own specialty, but in order to keep up the research, I always neglect some units

for instance- I always go for
artillery, engineers, and infantry for the army
fighters, CAS, strategic bombers, +seaplane, +CAG, and escort for the airforce
carriers, battle cruisers, and heavy cruisers for the navy

why should I care for subs and destroyers? they have hardly any range at all

please tell me the pro and cons for each of the units and what do you like to build?

Your army is good but depending on the situation you might also use some marines or mountain divisions with artillery. And off course motorized inf + armor divisions.
For airforce I would drop the strategic bombers and go for tactical bombers. They have more range than the CAS and they do the job of both types of bombers, just not as effectively.
In the navy you should have 50% destroyers. A navy without screens gets destroyed really quickly. And subs have long range, you just have to research the 1937 model.

Typically, I abandon AA brigades, since they slow my units down too much. And you really don't need anything other than Carriers+CAG and heavy cruisers for your navy
Having no screens can cost you dearly.
So you should build at CL and DD at least equal to your captials (and heavy cruisers are capitals).

What's the purpose of Cavalry in the game, really?
Anti tank research seems worthless too, seeing how there is barely enough tanks to go around.
Mot/Mech infantry is too goddamn expensive for being a bunch of paper tigers.

@klausewitz
ok, so I will go for CAG, carriers, battle cruisers, and CL

@Dreagon
I go for Strategic bombers because they can nuke, and late game I use V1 and V2, still not sure about using subs though

@BeardedHoplite
yeah I agree, AAs are total trash

@Kannon
I never use them, to get into Mot/Mech i have to do work in cavalry, and they aren't even worth it, that's why I go for tanks, no heavy tanks though

Yeah, but poor terrain and bad infra actually makes cavalry better at invading Siberia and other such regions.

I've played a game as Brazil, with goal of conquering SA after ww2, cause of little oil, bad terrain and bad infra, I've built only brigaded cavalry with SPART. They pack quite the punch and I never really missed my armour and mech/mot.

IMO it all depends on wich country you're playing with.

Cav is usefull for minors (like Brazil) specially in the early years of the game. AA are good to them too because they lack aerial support (it's too expensive research & produce Int/Fig wings and upgrade them to make'm actually defend that huge regions of South America - and Argentina has a Tac wing!).

When I play as Brazil I usually focus in Inf +Art and sometimes +AA +Eng ('cause there are many rivers), keeping the initial Cav divs as I would use Mot/Mec.

For Air Force I always build Tac, neglecting the Cas due the poor range and the Str due the cost. Even when playing as Germany. But in this case I also build many Nav (Kriegsmarine sucks).

... thinking about the subject... with patch 1.03 the number of useless brigades will increase a lot, eh? :confused:

Not really, 1.03 introduces Terrain/weather modifers for brigades. So one brigade that is "useless" under normal circumstances might be the best choice when fighting in regions that have a high percentage of certain terrain features.

awww, now i have to research and build everything. now who uses heavy tank for anything? that brigade slows you down to a crawl!

I am quite suprised people don't seem to use a lot of Mot/Mech, I tend to produce a lot of these, specially mech in late game.

I use'm but only when playing as a major.
To keep researching and have everything updated as a minor is a headache. That's why it's not worthy follow some paths unless you're playing as USA, USSR or GER.

Well, I'm afraid that minors will bem much more outdated in 1.03 than they already are then.

See Brazil... jungle, forests, mountains, hills... rivers, lack of Air Force. To fight well in all the national territory you'll need research almos everything, what will make you be always behind any power that can keep specialized troops updated.

That's why I start my countries at 3 tech slots and go up to 10 from there.

Anyway, if you want to minmax, I say just build inf-eng-ac and cav-eng, with a few hq-eng for good measure, have a decent fleet of carrier-heavy cruiser-screens, enough fighters to keep your skies clean and put most of your IC into tac and/or cas.

Bombers are just broken (as IRL), and it's often just too damn satisfying to attack 10 divisions with 3 and still win because you also sent 20 bomber squadrons...

And when your bombers are damaged or the weather is bad, chances are your inf can just hold the line.

Late game hqs and aircav are also the fastest land units. In 1.02.

can i make the computer do research for me instead of researching them myself? i hate having to pause once in a while just to do some research
AFAIK it isn't possible.
But it could do a good idea for 1.03 improvements... select a tech (like Inf 1942) in 1936 and then AI automatically starts to research all that tech path (first Inf 1936, then 1939 and so on) untill finish the selected one!!
