As long as he can keep his relations with Germany high, they can't threaten him except by maybe getting in the way.
I don't think I've ever seen the AI aggressively, intentionally decrease relations.

Germany is still your ally though, right? In what way are they a threat?

They are my ally, for now. However, since I have a German core (Heligoland) relations have been deteriorating. They have a massive military, and will be able to mobilize more than me as quite a lot of my population is colonies. Also as calvinhobbeslik mentioned they have an expanding industry which could threaten mine (Britannia and Germany are the only real industrial powers since the fall of France. I'm also role playing to a degree, but I think they will cancel the alliance soon, in the next war I have it says they won't join.

1860-1862

Britannia expands its colonial empire further and further into India, subsequently the East India Company gains more influence and power. The Company, now with its own private army and governmental buildings, is beginning to act like a nation in its own right, causing many worries in the grand political buildings in Oxford.

The Principality of Georgia, eager to expand its influence in the neighboring heathens, conquers a Persian state.

The Republican German Army in 1861. Germany currently fields 441,000 soldiers to Britannia's 453,000, alarming Alexander. It is estimated another 600,000 men can be mobilized during war time. After reviewing the statistics Alexander orders 200,000 troops to be trained, equipped and then sent to Europe from the provinces of America, stirring much ill feeling in these areas- many an American was killed in the defense of the Republic in the last wars.

With Britannia coming under pressure from other great powers, Lord Protector Alexander decides to flex Britannia's muscles, to show it's true hegemony over the world and show other powers that Britannia was willing to fight to be a true superpower.

A massive ship building project is started in Britannia, 40 ironclads are to be constructed in shipyards around Britannia, causing a boom in ship building industry. It will also secure Britannia's position as top naval leader.

1864-1865

The war against the Dutch rages on in Europe and Asia. Dutch troops land on the shores of England, laying waste to the port of Plymouth, calling for further naval reforms to stop this happening again.

70,000 Dutch troops attack an entrenched British army at Dunkirk.

The siege of Amsterdam and Utrecht costs many British lives, but the cities cannot be relieved. Thousands of civilians are forced to surrender to British troops as the cities- dependent on trade, are starved as the British blockade takes full effect.

v2_39.jpg

On the 8th of August 1866 Bohemia and Moravia ceases to exist as German troops annex the rest of the withered state. Massive deposits of coal, iron and a booming steel industry have been secured by Germany. This, however symbolizes a change in German foreign policy. In previous years, the annexations of Austria, Denmark and Sudetenland have been justified. However this time the Germans didn't even give an excuse. It appears no one can stop German expansion.

The Britons never will be slaves! So long Alexander doesn't try to offend the German ambassadorial delegation at the annual London Oktoberfest or by breaking the heart (or spine) of a fair Bavarian maiden.

Why didn't you take some of the East Indies?

I was considering it, but I didn't want to risk going over the infamy limit and provoking Germany.

Ok, now Germany's starting to worry me...

Tell me about it, I need to find some allies. Since France is defeated and hates me, I can't have them as an ally. Russia is far away and poor, Poland Lithuania is extremely weak and fracturing. That leaves only Italy, I don't know how long they'd last against Germany pouring through Veneto, which I'll be sending troops to just in case.

The Fate of Nations- Part 2

In 1870, the Republic of Britannia came to a halt. Lord Protector Alexander was travelling to America, by steamer, to deliver a message to veterans of the Anglo-French and Anglo-Dutch Wars. Wars which had killed many an American. Lord Alexander arrived in Philadelphia and attended the speech, which lasted the best part of 10 minutes. The speech was met with applause, however some elements of the audience booed and heckled Alexander, who in response, stormed off the stage. A lone man, who had booed at Alexander, got up from his seat and followed Alexander, trying to avoid attention. Alexander felt a figure following him, in response he turned round to confront his stalker. The lone man drew a pistol, shooting Alexander straight through the head, killing him instantly.

AlexanderAssassination.jpg

British troops, in panic, shot indiscriminately at anyone even near Alexander's corpse, 10's of people were killed in the hysteric gathering of people. A soldier managed to wrestle the assassin to the ground before he could slip away into the crowd, the assassin would later be identified as Thomas Turner, an American officer in the British Army, he was executed 1 week later.

Alexander had not left a successor to the 'throne' of England. Disputes between British generals and governmental minsters over power threatened to plunge Britannia into a civil war, with government troops based in England and the Army based in France. However, in 1871, the army made a decision which would alter Britannia's history forever. Prince Montgomerie, an exiled member of the English royal family- the rest of his family was executed by a certain General Alexander in 1820. Montgomerie pledged his support to the army, bringing massive financial support to the army.

In 1873, the Army embarked on an invasion, an invasion of England itself, which was under the control of the Republican faction. Troops were transported to Southampton and Plymouth and established bridgeheads for supply and re-enforcement. The Army marched on London, initiating a 4 month siege. The army eventually broke through makeshift defenses, taking over the entire city. The leaders of the Republican faction were either executed or exiled to Italy. On the 27th October 1873, the Kingdom of Great Britain, France and Ireland was proclaimed, but was known to many simply as the 'British Empire'.

Montgomerie.jpg

Montgomerie is crowned King of Great Britain, Ireland and France.

Meanwhile in America, full revolution had broken out. With British control waning over the colonies, many states pledged their support to the new Union. A temporary President- Ulysses S. Grant was sworn in, he was adamant in the defense of the new Republic. The industrial Northern states such as New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania supported the USA, giving it a massive base to produce arms independently. The poorer, more agricultural South supported the British, as they relied more heavily on the British economy- also, some areas in the South were over 50% British.

BritishNorthAmerica.gif

American troops, many veterans of European wars, brushed aside weak British militia's in the South (British troops were still dealing with rebels in England and France), with no sign of British support many Southern states decided it was in their interests to support the Union. American troops began pushing into Michigan and Ontario, burning Toronto to the ground. The British were defenseless. The Republic of Columbia sent troops to help defend, but were pushed back across the Mississippi.

With their forces in North America defeated, the British were forced to the negotiating table.

Treaty of Philadelphia-

- Britain and the USA will sign a 5 year peace treaty
- Britain will recognize the USA's current borders
- The USA will recognize the current borders of British North America
- The USA will pay reparation to Britain for the unlawful burning on Toronto

Signed- President Grant of the United States of America, Ambassador Robertson of the Kingdom of Britain, Ireland and France, representing King Montogomerie.

A New Beginning: The USA 1880-1881

The World in 1880. Major changes since 1868 include: Independence or autonomy of most American states, including the USA. Collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth under a German-Russian Alliance, Poland and Lithuania is absorbed into Germany. Colonization of Africa begins. France is utterly destroyed.

V2_MAP_USA_1880120_1.jpg

Close up view of the United States 1880.

v2_1.jpg

Nationalities in the United States, note a large British population in Georgia, Carolina and Virginia.

v2_2.jpg

On the 19th of January 1880, President Grant declares a mass recruiting drive across the new nation. Recruiting centers are set up in the large cities of Boston, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Charleston and Norfolk.

v2_3.jpg

Within weeks, thousands of men sign up to the United States Army, new weapons are produced in the massive armament factories of the North, creating a mini-economic boom. Plans for the non-existent United States Navy and Marines are also set up, but funding is yet to be secured. Its is deemed any naval forces would be useless against the overwhelming force of the British Navy, which was boosted considerably under the Alexander-era with state of the art ironclads.

v2_4.jpg

The United States is invited to the Congo Conference, many politicians in congress are outraged by the invite. However, President Grant decided it is in America's best interest to attend and keep a close watch on the European powers.

v2_5.jpg

On the 6th of February, delegates from the Californian Republic and the United States meet in Philadelphia to discuss the possibility of an alliance between the two fledgling nations. An agreement was made. The United States and the Californian Republic would sign a defensive and offensive alliance, the United States would allow Californian officers to train in military academies in Boston and both nations would trade military intelligence and technology.

v2_6.jpg

With these friendly relations established, the Californian Republic began drifting into the sphere of the much larger and populous United States. Perhaps much deeper co-operation would be of benefit to both of these new nations?

CaliforniaRepublic.jpg

One day later in Richmond, President Grant declares a new act- the Homestead Act, which promises new immigrants land and fresh start in America. The Act immediately pays off, with thousands of new immigrants arriving in the massive ports of the United States every month. Hardy colonists populate land past the Appalachians, which were traditionally inhabited by savage Indians.

v2_7.jpg

A military incident between the nation of Quebec and the US threatens war, after Quebecois troops kill three American troops patrolling the border. President Grant orders troop to travel by railway to New England and New York, ready to strike into Quebec. Popular support from many Americans pressures Grant into action, who was also eager to test the quality of American troops, in their first fight since the War of Independence.

v2_8.jpg

Nearly one month later, the US declares war on Quebec, American troops advance on Montreal and Quebec City, with the cities falling within months.
An American expedition to Egypt also yields great results: the source of the mighty Nile River is discovered, greatly boosting the prestige of the new nation.

v2_9.jpg

Quebecois troops counter-attack American troops laying siege to Montreal, but are easily repulsed.

v2_10.jpg

In March, a new concept is born. A concept in which the United States is destined to rule the virgin land of America, a land which anyone can make their lives in, escaping the tyranny and oppression of Europe. One day, America shall spread across the entire continent, ascending as the dominant World power with unlimited resources, a hardworking and loyal population and might Army, ready to defend the ideals of America whenever necessary.

v2_11.jpg

A new civil war is fought across the British Empire. Rebels run rampant across France, England and many other British colonies. Many factions view Montgomerie as an illegitimate fool (especially as news of his massive projects, costing vast sums of gold) is revealed across the Empire. A yearning for a democratic system burns across the Empire, as many come to a realization that there never will be another Alexander, another Protector.

v2_12.jpg

v2_13.jpg

Nearly 1 years after the war is declared against Quebec, the country is fully occupied. Quebec is forced to accept all American demands, which includes New Brunswick being accepted into the Union. A puppet President is also installed, with Quebec becoming an ally of the United States.

v2_14.jpg

Columbian troops aid the British against rebels in the West of America. Meanwhile, the American Army moves into position for a new, ambitious project.

v2_15.jpg

Unexpected news reaches the court of King Montgomerie. The upstart United States, which was British territory a mere 8 years ago, had declared was upon its former colonial master. American troops surge across the border, with outposts such as Detroit under siege from American troops. Troops also move into Ontario, following the same path into Toronto as they had done in the War of Independence. The unthinkable was happening to many in Europe- could a small, former colony defeat one of the most powerful nations in the World?

v2_16.jpg

Find out, next time!

USA in Quebec, interesting, i will be still following this

The Second Anglo-American War

The first battle of the war with Britain is fought. American troops engage a small Columbian army, which was helping clear St. Louis of rebels. British reinforcements back up the Columbians. The American troops are pushed back to Springfield to re-gather. Another battle is won at Malden.

v2_1.jpg

A 50,000 strong force under General Taylor pushed across the Ontarian border, defeating the British border garrison an marching on Toronto, a reflection of 1873. Some local Canadian separatists supply the American troops with information on British arms caches and defenses, leading to the quick occupation of border areas.

v2_2.jpg

Anglo-Columbian troops push back American troops at Oskaloosa, a minor defeat but will temporarily hinder American progress in the West.

v2_3.jpg

A Brunswickan fisherman spots a fleet in the distance, steaming towards port, he notices a large Union Jack fluttering in the Atlantic sea breeze. The flotilla steams right past his small boat, and into port. Around 20,000 British men are loaded off, and the fleet sails into the distance. The man returns home fish-less.

Upon hearing news of the landing a 27,000 strong army is sent to engage British troops threatening New England.

v2_4.jpg

British troops are defeated once again in Ontario. They retreat into the surrounding forest, but are hunted down by American scouts and Canadian militia.

v2_5.jpg

v2_6.jpg

"The British are blockading, the British are blockading!". Many Americans have an overwhelming urge to dump tea into large bodies of water, causing the American tea industry to grow an estimated 600% as Yankee doodles across the country rush to tea distributors and other tea based emporiums, which are quickly emptied of the valuable leaves.

v2_7.jpg

A historic alliance is signed by Germany and the United States, an alliance to topple the British Empire as the world's leading power. Germany's grudge against the British Empire had begun in the Alexander-Era, in which the British were at the height of their power. Successive German leaders have waited for such an opportunity as to strike against the British for a long, long time.

v2_8.jpg

Overview of the new European Theater.

v2_9.jpg

Michigan and Ontario are nearly occupied. American troops push West, but are met with stiff resistance in rugged, natural terrain, slowing any offensives down considerably.

v2_10.jpg

The German blitzkrieg into France utterly overwhelms Flemish and Wallonian troops in France, defending the territory for the Empire while it's troops are busy in North America. The Germans storm across France, capturing Paris and many other important industrial centers.

v2_11.jpg

A new wave of recruitment hits the US, thousands of fresh recruits join and are transported to the Western front to fight against hardy British frontiersmen. American propaganda appears in large cities such as New York and Boston, inspiring a generation of Americans to fight for liberty and freedom. If the US was truly destined to dominate the American continent, these would be the men who made it so.

Out of curiosity, is there a way to modify the culture of various provinces? That was really an astonishing amount of British culture in the U.S, so I wasn't sure if there was a way to change that or if you just had a lot of assimilation/immigration?

It was from immigration and assimilation, but there definitely is a way to change the culture of pops in a province.
