Any Downside to Inviting Claimants to Your Court?

What's to stop a player from inviting every player from every claim that would join their court from doing so and then having council members with skills in the 20's in everything? Do they cost anything? I realize they may create plots against you or members of your dynasty, but other than than is there any down side?

If you're a decent size realm, you can find people who have 20+ stats (or near enough) in everything already, without bothering.

Inviting everybody to your court has one effect: having 30+ people in your court means that everybody who is in your court will have less children. If you have a lot of unlanded dynasty members waiting around in your court, this can be bad for your dynasty's future. Otherwise - whatever.

    So, go ahead. Or don't.

I'd try to get them married once they're in your court. If possible matri-marry them to your female dynasty members then their claims (if inheritable) will end up in your dynasty.

I think there should be some gold cost associated with having too many people at one's court. I think about it as having to feed all of the courtiers. Most of them without land - so where are they taking the money for living (dressing up, using servants, money to plot against the one who feeds them)?

Quick question here; Does the AI invite courtiers from my court to theirs?

I usually prefer to use the invite noble option in the intrigue tab. The new courtier will be the same culture and religion as you which is useful when you're expanding aggressively. Inviting courtiers usually leaves you with some nasty foreigner opinion and revolt modifiers. Getting skilled council members is usually not so hard, getting claims and enough courtiers to keep your conquests (from holy wars, etc) can be a pain (unless you spend quite a bit of gold on intrigue).

@ cobalt I believe they do. my courtiers rarely leave but I've seen sons of my vassals in random courts (even when not married).

I'm fine with paying gold for each person at my court. As long as the people at my court respect my wishes and leave when I instruct them to. (even with reaction hit for that specific person) Dealing with a dozen or so claimless/useless claims/45+ aged women freeloaders who are scaring my productive/useful court members from the joys of childbearing is...something.

(Alright kind of amusing when I type it out. But the point remains)
