A Farewell and Thankful Wishes

Hello,

For those of you who don't know me, I am TekcoR, and have been around since July 2003. It is almost unbelievable, being here off and on for close to an entire decade. If anybody is thinking about a 10 year anniversary gift, I will gladly accept TEN $1,000.00 Bills or any amount of legitimate currency (no Monopoly money) that equals $10,000.00.

A few may be aware that recently on January 18th, 2012 I made a life altering decision to enlist into the United States Army. We all have our reasons; but that matters not in this message. I am here give a formal good bye for the next few months as I will first be in Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina (Rebel country!) beginning June 11th, 2012.

After that, I will be going to Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia (Damn Rebel country again!) beginning roughly August 27th, 2012. I will be returning to wherever my "home" will be then somewhere between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2012.

Due to this change in life, for the next few months I will not be contributing to this wonderful community - though during AIT I *may* have limited access to my wonderful smart phone and browse the forums occasionally. I hope that I will return with the same passion and to the same or more vibrant community that these forums have been for almost the past ten years.

Farewell. Not really that knowledgable tbh on everybody here, but I think I've seen you around a bit, it will be a shame to lose somebody from the community- even if only temporary(hopefully).

Thank you TekcoR for serving our country in the Armed Forces. My father spent 30 years in the USAF, starting in 1943 in the USAAF bombing Germany until the end of WW2. My father in law spent 4 years as a Marine, 4 years in the US Navy on PT Boats in Pacific in WW2, and then another 14 years in the US Army (being called up the last 2 years as an 'old man' of 50 to go to Vietnam). Both were very proud to serve the United States and both said it was the best times of their lives. My greatest regret is not having served in the military, but have served as a police officer for 30 years (as of today!! June 6th, 1982............my hire date was D-Day in Normandy).

May God Bless you and your entire family and bring you home safely after your service....no matter how long that may be. We will be waiting for the continuation of this great AAR whenever you can add to it.

I posted this earlier in Nightmare's thread:

I appreciate everybody's warm welcome back. I have not returned under the circumstances I've wanted; however often we find ourselves mere pawns in the puzzle that life is. During my stint at Ft. Jackson, I ended up aggravating a previous knee injury (both knees in the same incident); and ended up suffering injuries to the Patellar Tendon (connects the knee to the tibia) in my right knee.

At this time, surgery is not required; however further strain through running, jumping and extensive exercise using my knee would mostly likely change this scenario. With that said, I will be undergoing physical therapy for the next few months as we attempt to strengthen the tendon to be able to handle strain again. That said, my career in the Armed Forces has been effectively ended until I can re-enlist (with proof that the knee issues have been addressed to satisfactory standards).

I look forward to recovering and writing more. See you all soon, for the Nightmare will surely continue.

I am very sorry to hear that. I hope therapy goes well for you. But in the mean time I look forward for your return to writing.

Welcome back TeckoR. I too want to extend my condolences regarding the nature of your return, it's unfortunate to suffer an injury like that under any circumstance, but twice as bad when it stops you from accomplishing your goals. I hope your therapy goes well and that the injury is not permanent; at least we get to have more of your excellent writing in the interim.
