Napoleonic Wars: Any plans to fix broken melee?

Not sure if the devs ever seen bayonets and swords in action IRL, but I am pretty sure that Bayonets do not overpower swords in any way, except for range.

So why are bayonets usually 1 hit kill and sword usually takes at least 3, you can stab twice about the same time it takes to swing sword one time?

Bayonets are meant to be a last resort when you dont have time to reload and the enemy is closing in, its not exactly an effective weapon. its basically a heavier and less balanced spear.

Swords on the other hand are some of the best melee weapons due to their balance, speed, and effectiveness in killing.

Swords were represented well in the main games, why are they so terrible in this game?

Swords need buff and bayonets need nerf, then the melee of this game might not be retardedly broken. It would at least be a step in the right direction.

I support this, actually. But this issue should be brought up in the TaleWorlds forums, rather than here I think.

If you want to we could move this thread to the history forum where the relative merits of sword vs bayonet could be discussed forever.

You'll note that while pre-bayonet riflemen would carry swords, and early bayonet riflemen would also carry swords, they were soon removed just because bayonets were much better.

A sword will most likely offer just a non-lethal blow since it can be stuck in leather jackets, hit arms etc. A bayonet hit is likely to be in the torso and likely to be a penetration hit.

In exchange for superior lethality I heard say the game made it easier to block, though.
FSM! I am convinced. Are you?
IPU! I have faith. Do you?

Swords were not removed from the equipment of regular soldiers because they were necessarily better (1 on 1), bayonets however were infinitely cheaper and easier to use, especially in cramped battles and tight situations.

I have never tried playing officer, but I would believe that the max number of officers is tied to the number of other players, just as the proportion of people allowed in each regiment?

i think it depends on the server-rules, i saw teams nearly only consisting of officers, buts that was a public-server.
