I actually quite like the idea of newly conquered areas getting its soldier pops demoted into farmers or somesuch.

+ bureaucrats.

Colonies are overrated in V2. Most colonial powers were spending a lot of money just to support the colony which produces valuable or strategic good. But in V2 you can just easily colonize the whole Africa, turn in into states (well, not all colonies, but many), build massive industry, hire huge tanks&planes army...

V2 isn't supposed to be that kind of game. It's not some futuristic space strategy, it's based on history, where we could definitely say "there was nothing like this".

You should sometimes look at Africa in HoI3. This is directly after Vicky2 ends in another Paradox game, and Africa there is a massive burden rather than a source of half of your industrial production and a base for your army manpower. I'd like Africa to be presented in a similar manner in Vicky2, only valuable where it counts (as a port, as a source of more valuable colonial goods, as a source of prestige and national pride), rather than be the uber "I win" "second India" kind of a place.

I never had problems with French (or Polish, e.g.) soldiers in the German Army. That said, I never "trusted" them though. I always had only a small minority of say 2-3 brigades of French Artillery or Polish Cavalry in Armies with a large majority of South and North German guards (and artillery and cavalry). Just in case of a mutiny, they will finish off the traitors quickly. But then, this never occured. All my French and Polish soldiers are loyal children of the German Kaiser.

For the record, you can get Prussian nationalists as much as French and Polish... and what then.

I put a french soldiers to fight against french soldiers *evil* It`s funny.

I think that would be fair if it made them mutiny when forced to fight against their own countrymen. I remember reading somewhere that in both World Wars the German Army had some ethnic French soldiers, but they avoided putting them in combat against the French army

I'm playing Germany at the moment, and in year 1900 all kinds of German states including Prussia and Austria want freedom. Add 3 million communists on top of that.
1/4 of my regiments turned into rebels and perished quickly - I really did not expect that north german guard unit could rebel.
They want reforms and I want to give them reforms but upper house (appointed) hesitates a lot.

Speaking of Germany, in my recent game, I manage to pass all political reforms except universal voting early.
Right now, it is 1878, I have yet to pass one single social reform.
Previously, I break infamy limit early in 1840s as Germany, this time round I stay below infamy limit.
Is it normal? Kinda boring at the moment. My upperhouse is 70% conservative.

Upper House is the most liberal when it includes middle classes, but doesn't include lower class. If you pass universal vote to the upper house too early, conservative farmers and soldiers will block you from reforming. If you hold off that reform and make a lot of Clergy, you might be able to deliver all other reforms very quickly, then finish with the final UH reform which opens a possiblity for socialist votes in the second part of the game from unemployed lower classes.

I would pass all the trade union reforms first, then allow free press and then allow public meetings, these should help you get social reforms sooner, then pass the electoral reforms if you cannot make any social ones yet. The point is to focus on getting the reforms that actually will strengthen your nation like the schooling and healthcare reforms as they benefit you most if you manage to get them early. Normally you will be asked to pass all political reforms first before they ask for social ones, that's why allowing all trade union reforms will make people want the social reforms sooner.
Do that, or if you can somehow make your Upper House dominated by socialists early.

Regarding the foreign soldier / colonial troops thing:
It would be cool if we had some sort of "Colonial Infantry" as a unit model that is like the opposite of guards (= weaker INF) and can only be recruited from non-accepted cultures.

Here is the situation:
1. I passed the last 3 column of political reforms during liberal agitation & springtime of nation period.
2. By the end of springtime of nation, I only managed to pass Only Landed.
3. It is now already 1979, I still cannot pass one single social reform, my upperhouse is dominated by conservative by large margin.
4. Every time I change party to National Liberal, all hell break lose on rebellion, I already have 3 Jacobin, 2 Anacho-Liberal & 1 Reactionary rebellion. Super annoying when it breaks during war time. And I can feel that the next to come is communist, making me very hesitant to change party again, but yet I want LF & limited citizenship.

What shall I do?

Another weird thing, seeing that I am Germany, and have shit load of coal, and yet, I am still importing coal??? I check my coal-producing RGO provinces, the umeployment is crazy, like 80%. This is the first time I experience this. Very weird...

Check which issue is currently most important. It seems like you have too few liberals in your upper house. As Germany I can normally get at least 40% liberals in the Upper House by 1860's without any effort. Did you promote capitalists? Are you still taxing the poor and middle class over 50%?
As for your coal issue, it might be some countries you have in your sphere of influence which eat up all your coal. Also check in the trade screen to see how much coal your industries and POP's use. By that time as Germany my capitalists build so many glass factories that I have to start importing, anyway it's not a big deal as long as there is enough coal on the world market.

Never give people what they want, their liberalism will end when they get what they wanted and they will go blue. They will stop rioting, but you won't get full reform package either.

I like to leave for later reforms in the Political Parties, which help the ruling party win elections.

Or you can keep absolutism, never grant a reform, don't let them vote and suppress their desire to. Then appoint Laissez-Faire party to rule them and make everyone happy as they get rich at very low taxes. Economic freedom at expense of political freedom, isn't that what China did.

What do you gain by doing that? That takes away your chance to pass social reforms.

The typical way of passing social reforms in the AHD has nothing to do with the political system.
