I'm trying to creating a brand new map. Every tutorial I found explains how to edit the vanilla map (actually there is also a tutorial on how to edit the darkest hour map but i can't understand what file should i copy into what folder...)
What should I do to create a brand new map?
Should I extract the vanilla map with MapUtility v1.2.1? Then..?

I know about the Ewphoenix thread. It's very usefull to understand how to edit the map, but I would like to understand how to start from a white page and how to build up a new map. Something like "ok this file here must be compiled with all the provinces, than you have the map that you will draw following the ewphoenix tutorial and then you have to add those parameters in this file here. Then copy all those files into your mod folder and that's it... good work".

That IS the EWphoenix thread. It's ideal for large scale modding, or new maps. It takes you step by step from conception to completion pretty much. You make the requisite images as layers. It even discusses the file creation steps. And I posted the requisite pixel size for 1 file (it's like 2.6 gb big)...

I admit it's not the most clearly laid out, but somethings should be arcane.

I followed the ewphoenix tutorial and i know how to extract the map, how to modify provinces, recompact the map and everything works well.
My questions are..

If i modify the vanilla map, deleting everything and drawing a brand new map over it, do I have the 14860 connection limitation of the vanilla map? I know that the dh map has no connection limitation but i don't know if i should use the dh map or the vanilla or if it's the same.

Once I create the new map and copy the old vanilla map again in the map\ folder, where should I put my new map? Should I put it into a "\map\Map_2\" folder? And how the game knows that there is a new map for my new mod?

this guy here had the same problem but noone answer him

No limitation. The connection limitation was to do with the engine loading the map, not the map itself. Ergo - it's the same.

mods/map/map_3 = your map - then there's a text file somewhere which asks which map to use. Edit that.

I hope this helps, I've asked these questions myself via PM.

thank you very much :)

Just another question...
He says that -extract(0,0,156,180,6,2) should be ok for a 4gb system.
now the first two numbers are the position of the image

OffsetX=0 OffsetY=0

then there is the size

ImageSizeX=156 ImageSizeY=180

and then this

NumImagesX=6 NumImagesY=2

the number of files the mapextractor creates (6 x 2 )
My question is.. what's 156 and 180? pixel? I don't think so because the image extracted are much bigger then 156x180pixel...

I honestly have no idea. It sounds like your version works better than mine too! My PC hates the extractor to the point I can only get it to extract and I get like.. 42 frickin images. I'm just hoping the recompiler will just sew it all together.
