Taking a page from the United States, the British Empire undergoes a massive electrification program, designed to expand and create a massive network of underground wires to give power to all the citizens who request it. The costs were moderately high, but the British Government pushes forward, unafraid of any risk to help their citizens.

The Olympics are a smash hit in London, with the United Kingdom gaining a majority of the medals. One of the most telling and interesting affairs was the final match of the Football game between Brazil and Argentina. With both teams tied at 0-0, in the final few seconds of the match, Andre Henricho de Santa Rosa of the Argentinian team kicked the football, to the point where it smashed into the head of Carlos Colhor de Melho, giving him a concussion, but the football rocketed back into the Argentinian goal, allowing Brazil to win the match, and claim the Gold Medal.

The United Kingdom and the Ottoman Empire sign a treaty with each other, ending their current war.

In France, the President orders a massive aid to be sent to the Russian Empire, in the form of soldiers and money. Ships are loaded with the supplies and men, and arrive in St. Petersburg in the middle of the year. The Soldiers are shipped to the East to deal with the Soviets, and the money is deposited into the coffers.

The French Army undergoes a period of transformation where better usage of Railroads and Military Tactics are integrated into the Army in an attempt to try and make the French Army better.

A railroad is laid down in Paris, that will take a direct route to Rome, Italy. The French President goes on a tour to talk about this new development, and many French people are proud of their newly forged alliances.

In the Netherlands, the Dutch Government attempts to devalue the Dutch guilder, but it is to no avail. The Central Bank refuses any moved by the Government, and instead invests heavily into the construction of new Wooden Chair Leg factories in the North, bringing more industry to the Netherlands.

The Dutch Royal Bank is formed, but with little funds to do much, it just sits there getting Government tax revenue, and sending it out to capitalists. They invest in a wondrous new invention, Wooden armour for civilian ships. The Civilian Merchant Fleet of the Netherlands is then transformed into a huge fleet of wood-clad ships, ready to take on small firearms.
The Commission for Public Relief is formed in Amsterdam, but with the lack of workers, and an unemployment level staying stubbornly at 0%, the Government is hard-pressed to even find people to staff this new Government Agency.
A new wave of manufacturing is started in the Danubian Federation, when the Danubian Government passes some bills calling for industry to be constructed along the Danube River in Hungary. These new factories were to make equipment for the Danubian Army, which was starting to become outdated and not well supplied enough.

The Naval School of the Danubian Federation was opened in Budapest during 1908, where Admirals from Germany and the United Kingdom were hired to help sort out the Danubian Admirals and Naval Staff. A similar measure to expand the recently opened Air School failed, because the Government felt it would have been wasteful.

In the Spanish Kingdom, the King announces that joining the Atlantic Defense and Economic Network is good for the nation, and will do nothing but help them in the long run. He calls upon all good Spaniards to rise up to help their new partner, the Russian Empire, in dealing with the Communists. The new recruits swell, and capital from France flows into Spain, making the economic situation in Spain far better than it was before.

In a shock to the world, the nations of Finland and Norway sign an agreement with Germany, bringing them into the Central Powers. Norway cited their enmity of Sweden as a reason, while Finland sought protection for their government, and for their ownership of Karelia. Trade between all of these nations commence, but more German goods flow north than raw materials flow south.

The Reichstag debates, and ultimately decides not to pass the German Aviation Bill of 1908, citing the high costs associated with it. They instead, go for a slightly cheaper solution where they take hang gliders, and attach bombs to them, able to be used in warfare. The Bill passes, and the military attempts to use this new weapons, but one crashes and all the bombs explode, killing the test piolt. This spectacle was watched by all the German People, who's opinions swung sharply against air power.

The Berlin-Babylon Railway starts to snake through the high mountains of Austria, where the costs for this year increase because of the drilling costs and the winding bridges they needed to make. By the end of the year, the railway reaches Vienna, where it is connected to the main Danubian Railway Network, and land was cleared for the continuation of the Railway towards Babylon.

Germany moves to invest into the Russian Empire, by creating some new factories and expanding corporations to help streamline production from raw materials to finished products. Krupp Food and Industry, headquartered in Berlin, opens up production in Russia, much to the disdain of the Russian Government. The people are supportive of it, however, tax funds flow into the Russian Coffers, as more raw materials flow into the German Mainland.

In the Russian Empire, the Tsaritsa orders Land Reforms passed, rivaling the earlier proclamations abolishing Serfdom. The Russian peasants were released from their bondage by the Russian Empire buying up land from the nobles, who were given plots of land to build factories on, and the peasants were given that land. This massive reform lurched Russia forward, but also raised a new point, with all of these reforms, when would political reforms come?

Some hydroelectric dams appear on the River Volga, with the purpose of supplying electricity to the Russian Empire as whole. However, due to the massive size of the Empire, only a few towns along the River Volga are given electricity, but the implementation of it is a huge boon to the Russian Economy, with some shops getting electrical lighting and electrical machines, allowing workers to work longer, and more efficiently.

Military Academies around the Russian Empire, as well as some officers currently serving, teach the tactics of General Brusilov, hailed as the greatest military mind in a Generation. It is with his new, rapid mode of attacks, and the French soldiers backing up the Russians, did the Communist lines finally fall, and the rebellion ended, with Vladmir Lenin being arrested for crimes against the state, and executed by the Russian Government.
The Greek government would begin to seek to invest in North Epirus in order to develop the region, in cooperation with the Epirote government. However, many people in North Epirus still remembered the depredations of the Greek Government during the Balkan War, where in 1901, Greek armies had massacred civilians and sacked villages in the region without regard for ethnicity, whether Albanian, Aromanian, or Greek. Popular support was begrudging at best, and it was made worse by the failure of the Greek investors to find anything worth their investment.

The North Epirote government would also politely but firmly decline the Greek offer of a united foreign relations policy, for very similar reasons. Though military cooperation had been accepted in various circumstances, the Prime Minister of North Epirus unequivocally drew the line there. The Epirote would remain friends of the Greeks, but not their puppets.
A massive military parade was held in Athens. Irredentism and enosis were the watchwords of the day, as the people cheered for the military and the Megali Idea. Calls for the liberation of the entirety of the Dodecanese and the North Aegean islands, which were still retained by the Ottoman Empire, were widely heard, and even the recent peaceful cession of Crete only proved to have only whetted their appetite for Greek-majority lands in the Ottoman Empire. Sensing the weakness of the Sublime Porte in the Treaties of Athens and Constantinople, the latter of which calls for unspecified “island adjustments” between Greece and Turkey, the people are calling for even more cessions to be made, or seized if the Turks will not submit.

A Greek attempt to develop methods of explosives, particularly more powerful compounds suitable for use in artillery and other munitions, would fail miserably. Various experiments with stabilizing various fluoride or azide compounds for potential military applications were generally unsuccessful, and in one infamous attempt to combine silver azides (themselves highly explosive) with chlorine gas, resulted in an explosion that effectively destroyed the lab room, killed the lead researcher and one of his assistants, and led to severe injury to the surviving lab assistant when water, used to put out the fires, reacted with the still-reacting combination of chlorine and silver azides to produce fumes of hydrochloric acid. Follow-up experiments showed that the compound found, chlorine azide, was far too shock-sensitive to be of any use, detonating effectively without any provocation.

Attempts to diversify their holdings, however, would fail miserably. Trying to push for an expansion of industry in Bucharest only saw limited support to the Romanian government’s proposals, and most of the scant few factories that saw investment would soon close again.

Romania began to pass new laws to permit women to join the army in segregated units with the same pay and rights as male units. Domestic reaction was extremely harsh, with many decrying the acts and the government that only narrowly passed these bills, and even that at significant risk of the collapse of the ruling coalition. On the other side of the fence, suffragists condemned the hypocrisy of the government that sought to force women to fight without granting them any actual right or say in their government, which only drew further ire from the conservative wing that dominated much of the Romanian countryside. Nonetheless, some success was had in the auxiliary branches for non-combat roles, which was the only place where the army would, however begrudgingly, tolerate this latest wave in egalitarian fervor, but in spite of the government’s official promises, would keep the best equipment and training for the actual “fighting men of the proper army,” as one general commented.

Attempts by the Romanian government to approach Traian Vuia in Paris would fail. Having given up his efforts after the failure of the Vuia II in the previous year, he had little interest in Romanian cajoling or pleas for his assistance, nor did he have particular interest in Romanian promises of funding. The European backwater of Bucuresti had no interest to the French citizen of the City of Lights, hub of early aerospace activity from the street-side salons to the Academy itself, and the Romanian representatives were again forced to return empty-handed.

The Education Act of 1908 fails in the Congress, where Democrats, hoping by some slim ability, to regain control of the House, filibuster the bill in an attempt to frame the Government for it. It backfires massively, as the people support better Education, it being part of the Square Deal. The Congress eventually passes it, mandating education from 8th Grade to 12th Grade, looking to produce some of the smartest workers on the planet.

Government funds are sent to General Motors to try and expand their production. A Chevrolet Factory opens in Alabama, while Ford builds his first over-seas factory in Brazil. It expands to become one of the most massive companies in Brazil, boosting their overall standard of living, and their industrial output. Soon, many Ford cars with the GM logo stamped on the side can be seen rolling through Rio de Janerio and other towns, as GM engineers come down to Rio to see the wonderfully re-built city and to build roads and bridges for these new cars.

In the United States, President Roosevelt, after much personal debate and consultation from both his wife and his staff, decides to file a bid for Re-election. He easily wins the nomination on the first ballot by 99.5% of the votes, the other .5% going to William Howard Taft, and sends George Cortelyou to organize his re-election bid. Unprecedented in American History, President Roosevelt seems determined to stop the precedent of no more than eight years, as set out by President Washington, but defends it by saying he is keeping the precedent intact by taking no more than two elected terms. Although, the American public simply doesn't care, the outpouring of love and support for the President seems to show he could lead the nation for a lifetime if he wanted to.
The election results were considered the greatest electoral victory for a Republican President in the History of the United States of America. President Roosevelt took an unprecedented 71.4% of the vote, garnering 10,495,834 votes, to William Jennings Bryan's 28.6% and a total vote count of 4,204,292. The electoral college was a similar landslide. President Roosevelt's work finally won the South over to him, gaining every former Confederate state except Louisiana and Mississippi. President Roosevelt gained 468 Electoral Votes, compared to Bryan's 19. Every single state in the Union, besides Louisiana and Mississippi, voted for President Roosevelt. His victory was hailed as the greatest since Washington, and gave him a mandate, larger than any other President in American History. A popular cry after the election was, "Four More Forever More!"

Progress in the Panama Canal goes well, and actually picks up quickly, as more machines are brought down from the United States to aid in the digging process. The costs are increased, however, because of the shipping, but overall it is projected to save money in the long term by getting the job done faster.

In Guatemala, and effort to reduce corruption an tariffs fails horribly, when the small South American State sees its Congress pass a bill raising Tariffs and attempting to raise taxes on farmers growing fruit.
The Guatemalan President takes a tour across the country, calling Guatemala the heir to the Mayan Empire, and the rightful ruler over all her old lands. While the Guatemalans were happy of this New Nationalism, many in the other Central American countries were not.

A massive call for railways and the completion Guatemala City goes out from the President's Office, as he open up the coffers to all who would help reach this goal. Hundreds of people invest and take out contracts, one of the most important companies to do was was United Fruit, which decided to invest a couple million dollars into the Central American Republic, and expected some very good rates on fruits to be shipped to their canneries in the United States.

The government of Chile decides to heavily invest in infrastructure, specially on trains. All equipment needed for such project is imported from aboard at high cost. When such pieces reach the ports of Chile, men began to work, due to complicated terrain in Chile work progress slowly, but in a period of 2 years is expected Chile will have it's own modern rail road system.

Another Chilean project that tries to reduce the state participation in the economy turns bitter-sweet. With the reduction of taxes, there is more money in the people's pockets, but the state income regarding taxes is reduced significantly, hurting the economy. On the long run it will show to be profitable.

Finally, Chile last national project of 1908 is a reform in the schooling system promoting the meritocracy. But the Catholic Church, that control's most of the schools in Chile, proves to be something more than formidable and resist all types of changes. Yet one school in Santiago de Chile adopts the system, showing some improvement, albeit in small scale.

Brazil beginning of 1908 starts with the fixing the irrigation canals in the north-east and further expanding them. The project progresses in a good way and soon large chunk of land is ready to be used for agriculture

The UK parliament passed a bill were it allowed economic resources to be invested in the African colonies. Specially in rubber, a raw resource that is proving to be much needed by the modern industry. Rubber plants are set up, and the right climate conditions, mixed in with British knowledge and leadership ends with a total success making the UK completelyself-sufficient in that resource in the next 3 years and a major exporter of rubber, 2nd only to Brazil. The way this was done was praised by economist all around the planet, since the colonies weren't exploited but developed, making some of them even self reliant.

A literacy program is aimed by Ethiopia, but the country is to unstable by the recent war and nothing can be really be done this year.
On the other hand, a huge propaganda campaign to boost the legitimacy and popularity of Zewditu I is a complete success. People of Ethiopia accepts the new Emperor and hope that with him, Ethiopia will reach a new golden age.

This influx of goods and the new company, Krupp Food and Industry, currently markets German goods in several major Chinese cities. Both nations have benefited from this deal, with new factories springing up in Germany, and the Chinese people having better access to goods.

The Treaty of Shanghai is signed between the United States and China, where the Zhoushan Archipelago was transferred to the United States, in exchange for some monetary supplementation and a defensive alliance. American companies eager to tap into the Chinese Labour Market, open up a few factories in Zhoushan, now renamed the Roosevelt Archipelago, with Roosevelton as it's Colonial Capitol.

Hundreds of Thousands of Chinese Men and Women leave Southern China, and appear on the shores of the Dutch East Indies. They are looking for jobs, and quickly become the majority in all areas except Java, where the Dutch hold a plurality, next to the Javanese. Agricultural production and industry booms on the islands, becoming the most industrialized area in the South Pacific.

The Ottoman Empire in an attempt to keep casualties at a low during the troubling times spread the idea for loyal citizens to paint their foreheads and house doors red, but sadly due to miscommunications some never got the message were harmed, casualties were at a minimum.

The Treaty signed with the Foreign powers was a huge blow to the Ottoman Empire and its prestige, but thanks to the Sultan, who remained calm and a voice of reason, there was relative if not greater stability, with the population feeling united.

The Sultan also in a surprising move called for the need for unity, strength and courage of the Muslim world during these troubled times, declaring his disgust at the way Muslims are being treated. Arab rebels were found to be in the possession of large quantities of modern weaponry, causing trouble for the Europeans in the area.
The Treaty of Shanghai was met with unease and distrust by the Chinese population, who were unsure of American intentions.

The Chinese government always made the move to found an Imperial Police Force, which was largely successful, but not overly grand.
The Chinese government then began its biggest plan of the year, building a railroad from Guangzhou to Beijing using American advice and planning and money gained from the Treaty of Shanghai. Right from the start it was a huge success, with construction going far ahead of schedule.

The Japanese government began a plan to compensate the people who lost their houses during the beautification project, but the plan fell under the jurisdiction of corrupt inept officials contrary to the wishes of the Emperor and it ended in almost complete disaster, with most of the money disappearing. This spread throughout the nation quickly and many people are doubting the ability of the government to lead them.

The government then went on with its second plan of the year, to decrease the price of land for those who had the purpose of starting up a factory or industrial complex, this was very successful and caught the eye of investors. The government also tried to slash regulations with workers while keeping their rights intact, this proved largely successful as well.

The Japanese Naval Department then began the plan to reverse engineer equipment on British ships, this ended in failure with many designs too complicated for the engineers.
The Japanese Government made an attempt to improve relations with Korea and Manchuria by highlighting their reconstruction of Seoul and their increasing of production in Manchuria, this plan worked exceptionally well and all three nations became closer.

People of Spain!
This past year has been a great one for our fine country. Our alliances with the French Republic and the Russian Empire, among others, have been nothing but fruitful for the nation and the people. Our industries have grown, our capital has increased - our prosperity moreso - and the men of the Spanish Army, all volunteer I might add, are about to embark upon a great Crusade towards which the nations of ADEN have striven these many months; the defeat of those that threaten the peace of both the continent of Europe and Earth. It started with the Communist and Ukrainian rebellions in Russia after the War of the Three Emperors. These two entities thrived in anarchy, and how were they stamped out? Discipline, organization, stability, and a pride for the people and their country. Members of ADEN - no, all nations on Earth - must move to combat these evils, the evils of communism, pure anarchy, oppression, injustice, brute force, bad faith, and persecution, which strive to hurt the human community and enslave those that seek liberty, freedom, and equality under all flags in all nations.
So let us all go forward together, to seek peace and justice for all mankind; not as many nations, but as one.

The Republic of Guatemala
It is with surpassing pleasure and pride that I announce the completion of the railway line linking our capital, Guatemala City, with the major Caribbean port of Puerto Barrios. This modern railroad will convey both passengers and goods from the heart of this great nation to the Atlantic Ocean and beyond and serves as another sign of proof that Guatemala's star is on the rise. We hope to serve as a beacon of hope and a symbol of the prosperity brought by industrialization to all of Central America. The golden spike that I drove into the final linkage outside Guatemala City will sit proudly in the Office of the President to serve as an eternal reminder of this great accomplishment by the people of Guatemala.
As President of the Republic, I wish to thank the United Fruit Company for their invaluable contribution to Guatemala's modernization effort. Our diplomatic and commercial ties with the United States of America are of the greatest importance to our Republic and we hope that they will only strengthen with time. I also wish to congratulate President Theodore Roosevelt on his landslide re-election and express my wishes for another four years of cooperation and peace between our nations.
I would also like to announce the beginning of a revitalization project for Guatemala City. Now that the flow of goods has been established from our Caribbean port, we may begin to modernize and beautify our grand old capital, to create a city truly worthy of its people and a shining metropolis ready to meet the future. In the pursuit of this noble goal, I have enlisted architects, city planners, sculptors, and landscapers to draw up the plans for our modern capital, with work to begin very soon.
Finally, I wish to address the unfortunate results of my latest speech to the people of the Republic. My remarks have been sadly misconstrued by foreign journalists as "imperialist demagoguery" when this could not be farther from the truth. It was simply my goal to remind the people of Central America of our great shared heritage and to express my hope that we will work together to throw off the lingering effects of colonial oppression together, as friends and allies. I believe the union of all Central American nations and people is in the region's best interests, and it is my hope that we will come together of our own accord as brothers and friends.

Friends, the results of the recent election will bring with them a period of continued growth and prosperity for all Americans. People of Brazil! Finally our great nation is safe from threats coming from the inside, and we can announce : All brazilians are safe from oppression! The industrialization of Brazil continues, with new railroads and factories opening and expanding everyday, proof of that are the foreign investors attracted by our great growth rates, who see Brazil as a solid economy to invest in! It is clear, Brazil's economy has greatly expanded since the declaration of the Second Empire, and with peace on our lands, our rates shall only improve, and with them come even higher standarts of living to the common man.
Not only that, but the brazilian northeast enjoys irrigation of its previously arid lands, turning that once unproductive region into the new source of income to families, who now can grow and sell their crops.
The Imperial army has also been officialy formed, with a standing army of 50.000 brave soldiers, all veterans of the civil war, composing our forces, with Brazil's newfound strenght i hope to invest into the modernization and expansion of our navy so that we can defend our vast shores, once neglected during the republic, as it was seen as a relic of the First Empire's might, i hope to once again make it into a source of pride of the nation, and a modern and powerful force, ready to defend our citizens and waters.
Lastly but not least, i personally congratulate our victorious athletes, who have managed to bring the first gold medals back home, i hope that Brazil will keep a respectable place on international sports, and futhering that i put foward the candidacy of city of Rio de Janeiro to host the 1912 Olympic Games, as a symbol of what hard-working men can do, as a symbol that it is possible to recover from ashes to reach even greater heights, i hope that we will receive that opportunity to show our nation's progress and our great city.

We are glad that finally peace and prosperity are spreading throughout the region after such a long time of war; we salute the progress both in Brazil and in Chile in that matter.
The establishment of the Meteorological and Hydrographic Observatory in the Orcadas marks the southernmost human permanent settlement. We believe in the spirit of goodwill and science, therefore it's facilities are open to scientists and explorers from all over the world, as they prepare to take over that last great unknown the world has, Antarctica. As for the fate of the unaccounted ships, they were instructed to assist in the establishment of the research station, as the nearest settlement is Ushuaia, 1.500 km away across the Drake Passage.
As we keep looking upon our south, the riches of the Patagonian oil are closer to all of us, now that the necessary infrastructure will be completed in a year. Those roads, rails and ports bring an age of industry and progress closer to all of us, and I celebrate the fact that the Argentine people are becoming aware of that fact as well.

Following the Italian crisis, it has become clear to Her Majesty's Government that membership of an international alliance was a grave mistake for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. We submitted to the Treaty of Brest in the hope that this would provide peace and security in our time by deterring acts of aggression against its adherents; instead, it has become a means of enabling aggression, and fostering upon it the legitimacy of international support. Her Majesty's Government cannot be party to any aggressive behaviour on the part of other nations. We are desirous only to uphold peace and prevent war, so that we may cultivate our dominions in serenity. Moreover, we are a nation of traders, not warriors; we are content with our current holdings and have no desire to expand at the expense of any other nation. Rather, the Kingdom of the Netherlands should be a centre of trade for all, a friendly power to all and a conscientious neighbour.

As President of the French Republic I am disappointed with the withdrawal of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from the Treaty of Brest. Despite plans for a rewording of the Treaty of Brest. The plan is nearly finished and will be unveiled to the international community shortly. I call upon the Kingdom of the Netherlands to reconsider their decision and rejoin the ADEN pact.
