OOC: Didn't know he had any soul left to lose :p

((Not sure myself...))

The Republic of Chile hopes that war can be avoided; if it cannot, I, Pedro Montt Montt, have been authorized to condemn this attack on the Ottoman Empire. This was a solely Italian and Ottoman dispute, and it should have remained between them. This ADEN seems to be too broad and too vague in its wording; it causes in an instant a near total world war! The Chilean Government is glad it did not sign this treaty; we do not want to risk our citizens in wars over Africa or Europe.

Her Majesty's Government must protest against the present conflict. It is the opinion of the Council of Ministers that defensive alliances are intended to deter wars, not exacerbate them. The Atlantic Defence and Economic Network suggested in principle a defensive union for mutual support and cooperation. Presently, it is being employed as a rubber-stamp for rabid aggression. The Ottoman Empire did not threaten the Kingdom of Italy; she did not lay claim to her territory or subvert her sovereignty. On the contrary, the Kingdom of Italy assaulted the Ottoman Empire to annex a province which was last in her possession more than a thousand years ago. Why can the Kingdom of Italy not execute this conflict on her own accord, when it concerns only her own interests and poses no relevance to the greater members of this community?

Her Majesty's Government sees now that the Treaty of Brest was principally flawed in its first clause: specifically, that it mandated the assistance of treaty members in war even when the assisted treaty member initiated the conflict. Naturally, it was the responsibility of the previous government to review this treaty, and we accept responsibility for their oversight. We must ask the Council of the Network to convene amend the treaty, so that support is required only in the event of a defensive war. Otherwise, the Kingdom of the Netherlands cannot support, morally or financially, wars of conquest, and shall be forced to withdraw from this confederation.

The Dominion of South Africa

I believe the Italian is correct. The State of Italy still exists, after all.

-Prime Minister Louis Botha

You are the clown

High talk, coming from the one who brought half the nation to war over something as scathingly pointless as your mad ambitions for Libya.

Even the War of the Three Emperors was not as pointless as your reckless call to arms over a pointless desert that you have no claim on. But I suppose someone has to fight Italy's wars for it, since its military is too busy being high and drunk on the finest wine and power force can buy, no?

This is coming from a man who isn't fit to run a condom factory, much less a country.

The Japanese Empire of the East is disusted at the language that the State of Italy has been using in diplomacy. We will promptly be cutting off all diplomatic ties and be expelling the Italian Embassy.

The UBA leadership denounces the unneeded calling in of so many allies by the Italian Government. If you could not win this are yourself you should never have started it in the first place. You have now Denied the Ottomans the ability to resist your attack by having your allies swarm them.

I do believe Victor Emmanuel has gone insane, as he seems to be arguing with himself over whether or not his incompetence would allow him to run a condom factory. After all, it cannot possibly be anyone else he could be speaking of, since no one here is nearly as incompetent as the man that failed the invasion of the useless backwater that is Ethiopia, as well as calling half the world to arms over a useless piece of desert that he had negotiated to buy anyways, and ironically enough will end up paying the Ottomans for, nor is it anyone but he who destroyed all semblance of balance in the Middle East and replaced it with a new, unpredictable political landscape.

Mr. Emmanuel, I may not be the best ruler, but I think others would agree your own list of achievements does not stretch far beyond your establishment of a harsh military dictatorship due to a mis-allocation of funds and your destruction of any kind of semblance of order in the Middle East.

Though my signature is not required on this Treaty, I would like to simply say that I approve of it and all that it contains and entails.

Treaty of Istanbul

The Ottoman delegation, led by the sultan, prepares to enter into the conference hall where the peace treaty is now being signed. Standing outside, the Sultan has a mixture of feelings. Regret, betrayal, sadness and anger are only some. As they enter the hall, the eyes of 12 other delegations fall upon them. The expressions of the enemy delegations are just as mixed up as the feelings of the Sultan. Some are clearly pleased, while others are puzzled as to why they are even there.

The Sultan moves forward and is directed towards the table where the treaty lays. He stares down upon it, analysing the terms again. As he does so, he feels a great fiery rage build up in the bottom of his stomach. He clenches his fists, while his face turns red.

Somehow though, he manages to calm down, remembering what happened last time he had an outburst against the Europeans. He turns and looks at the delegations.

“This treaty is an absolute abomination. It is a humiliation. You are stripping away our rightful lands, subjugating our people and are making our already weak nation weaker. I hope you are all pleased with your actions this day.”

The Sultan turns back to the treaty, hesitating but placing his signature on the treaty.

[X] Abdülhamid II of the Ottoman Empire

The Sultans heads for the door but stops. He turns, facing the delegations once more.

“Get your citizens and embassies out of the Ottoman Empire. We will attempt to protect them, however stopping the rage of a people is no easy task.”

OOC: Everyone with an embassy or citizens in the OE should get out fast.

Her Majesty's Government is depressed, though unsurprised, by the barbarous conduct of the King of Italy. It is only natural that the leader of a State that has swept aside all constitutional safeguards and offices of accountability should behave as if he has nothing to fear. In reality, the Kingdom of Italy is far more fragile; half its armed forces occupy its southern cities to stave off revolt, while the other half fight unnecessary wars overseas to shore up its prestige. It is the latter in which the Kingdom of Italy has showed the most exertion, and the least competence. Without the assistance of ADEN, she would be as hopeless against the Turks as she had been against the Abyssinians. Even as she spurns international opinion, the Italian State clings to the coat-tails of international institutions. No sooner will Libya be ignobly obtained then she shall withdraw from ADEN in search of the next source of colonial conquest.

The Kingdom of Italy has not only been immoral in her behaviour, but dangerous. For the sake of adding another spot of green to the map, she has destabilised the Near-East and drawn poisonous acrimony towards the Western powers. The Mediterranean is a crucial cog in the world economy; the livelihood of every European nation has been put at risk by Italian blundering and buffoonery. Worse, her appetite seems insatiable. No sooner had peace been brokered with Abyssinia then war erupted with Turkey. Once she has conquered the Libyan coast, where will she cast her eyes next? Perhaps to Egypt, and the life-line of the British Empire? Perhaps to French Algeria? Wherever her gluttonous gaze falls, mischief is sure to follow.

ADEN is a union of common interests based on international cooperation. It is obvious that the Kingdom of Italy is abusing this union as a vehicle for her own interests, which are wholly incompatible with the other signatories. This most honourable alliance has been besmirched by the inclusion of a rapacious, despotic regime. If the Kingdom of Italy is not expelled from ADEN, then the Kingdom of the Netherlands shall withdraw immediately. We will not play party to such devious acts of aggression. And so long as ADEN harbours such a parasite, then no sane statesmen shall dare apply for entry. This grand alliance shall be smothered at birth.

- Her Majesty, Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands
