VI: Desert Heat I
Although 3 countries had now been occupied, the main enemy Egypt was still lurking in the west. Also, Saudi Arabian and Yemen relations to Israel had become worse and worse since the belligerent actions of Israel.
Israel had a clear goal - Retrieve Gaza and if possible the whole Sinai peninsula. If even more possible - Everything east of the Nile.
War was declared in September 1956, Gaza was free and the israeli troops swiftly claimed it.
After that a movement was made deeper into the Sinai, the battle of El-Arish occured.
In the mean-time, an israeli V2 missile was sent to Cairo and destroyed the whole industry of the city.
The navy were sent on raiding enemy convoys and the air force were also set into operation.
The battle of El-Arish was won.
Egyptian troops were encircled in Sharm El-Sheikh and they had to give up.
The egyptian peace offer was declined, Israel had a bright opportunity in front of them by now.
The last battle on the Sinai peninsula was also won, and Port Said was taken shortly after.
The road to Cairo and Alexandria were open.. But would Israel have the capacity to make it or would the Egyptian troops fight too hard?
To be continued.
