Roughly a 3-4 hour walk from boston at wander speed with swimming. The second picture is for comparaison purposes to see the light level differences. It goes down so slowly that you don't notice until your stats start dropping.

Stats are effectively lowered at a steady rate, food doesn't help heal the damage. Light such as torches or campfires raises the light level, but venturing further lowers the light level further. The healing of stats is also significantly lowered in speed, even with enough light to stabilize you.

    Dopefly, it's Ender's custom client.

At this point in time is there any advantage of going into the darkness?
Not talking strictly defensively, just in general.

same reason you settle on cold and scary tiles in dwarf fortress.

Someone should make just a massive mountain far north streching across the map and make it the wall from song of ice and fire

umm my first 20 silver teleport was into woods likes those. its only slightly darker and I dont think I realised at the time. I think/hope that the real mordor will be MUCH darker that you need a torch and signal fires to be able to see, what your seeing is only slight darkness imo.

There is nothing useful in the darkness other than a lower population base. Ie... none. Before I found the darkness last person I'd seen was 1.5 hours ago, and that was just a cut tree.

However, murdering people and destroying things reduces civilization rating (it's based somewhat on playernumbers I believe). And the base I settled at (1.5hours back along my trail) is now becoming murky.

Stop murdering people or I'm going to have to abandon this camp =<

Edit: Many people speculate there will be darkness specific mobs and/or forageables related to witchcraft. I haven't heard anything from jorbtar about it confirming that though.

There will be creatures only found in the darkest of forests, at least that's what I gather about some of the creatures planned. Heck, the bears are just cute and cuddly things, so I'm sure that isn't going to be the last of it (not to mention the creatures that have been mentioned as being added at some point like hidebehinds).

Wait, so let me get this straight... The more crimes people commit in the game, the closer the darkness gets to Boston, the less space there is to settle? So if people want to extend the habitable (non-dark) area, they have to work together more? If so, that's an awesome system. Pure genius.
