How far can your imagination take you? How about all the way to the Arctic Circle because now you can get your own scenario immortalized in Naval War Arctic Circle. The developers are going to pick out one scenario to implement into the game. Describe your scenario in this thread before May 8th. The challenge here is to create a good one with a minimum of units.

Also, the following needs to be included in the scenario:
    * Name, background of scenario.
    * Description and objectives for each side (short desc)
    * Time of year and day; weather (fine, fair).
    * Specify the two sides:
    * Order of battle (groups and units) with destinations or patrol radius
    * The position of all groups/units (e.g. use Google maps, or just
    give approximations)
    * Carried aircraft on all ships that can carry them, if different
    from default, including weapon loads
    * Airfields and their aircraft with loadouts (if any)
    * Other land installations (if any)
    * Victory conditions for each side
    * If playable against AI: some overview of aircraft launches and
scouting patterns for AI; Initial AI orders for air (high alt, active
    radar)
    * Neutral units in mission, if applicable

    Good luck everyone!

Edit: We will extend the contest to May 18th. After that the jury will carefully go through the entries and the winners will be announced at the beginning of June. Good luck again!

I feel the Battle of Jutland 2030 scenario was very much identical to what I would have suggested so I'll sit this one out!

Oh wow - this sounds like a fun challenge

Sadly I think my innate lack of organization and lack of familiarity w/ the game/units would preclude any attempt of mine from being included :/

Might give it a stab, though I would need to actually buckle down and research a few things.

Are there limits to how many scenarios we are allowed to post?
Because I have two, and when I arrive back home this weekend, I'll be able to pump out ideas, but how will I know which is the best?!

Whatever you want, as long as we find it here in this thread We'll notice who posts a neat idea first.

Does it have to be within the NWAC 2030 timeline or can it be any modern naval warfare scenario?

It has to include only units we have in the game, and only the options we currently have in the game.

    Thumbs up The QRA Escalation

I have followed this sort of thing for quite some time and if you read the Daily Mail article below it mentions Putin's intent regarding polar resources - perfectly fitting with the game!!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/mosl...defend-UK.html
    http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/nordland/1.7809959

I have added some flexibility into the scenario so that the developers can balance it appropriately, If only one airbase is appropriate, Lossiemouth is fine and is due to support QRA in 2013+

    * Name: The Q.R.A. Escalation

    * Description: The Russian Federation Air Force has regularly tested response times of would-be enemies, however of late the 'mock' skirmishes have become increasingly aggressive. Q.R.A (Quick Reaction Alert) Typhoon aircraft deployed from RAF Lossiemouth UK usually track these incursions but this time -have locked onto the incoming forces for the first time. One of the Russian SU-35 escorts of the Tupolev TU-95 opened fire in response to this, and immediately reported back to base after they returned - stating they had been attacked. Moscow have deployed a sizeable fleet whilst investigations are underway and tensions are high.

Note: QRA Will operate from Lossiemouth also in 2013+
"From 2013 the Northern QRA force of Typhoon F2 will relocate to Lossiemouth following the closure of RAF Leuchars. This will leave Lossiemouth as the only ..." - wikipedia.org

    * Time of year and day: August, Monday 21st 2014+
    * Fair/Rough weather
    * Specify the two sides: United Kingdom, Russia

    * Order of battle (groups and units) with destinations or patrol radius: Russian Federation heads towards Coningsby and Lossiemouth: UK commits 2x Astute subs, Type 45 frigates, F-35's, Typhoon (Air Superiority from Lossiemouth/Coningsby), E3 Sentry AWACS, ASW helis, ASW P8A Poseidons, Queen Elizabeth Carrier and Taranis UCAVs in response to an appropriately balanced Russian Federation Force. and an optional Tupolev 95 sneak attack.

    * The position of all groups/units: All centred around RAF Lossiemouth & Coningsby or the scenario can be around Lossiemouth only. Opposing forces are headed towards the airbases and carrier group.
    * Carried aircraft on all ships that can carry them, if different
from default, including weapon loads: Default, loadout to suit this major sea based skirmish.

    * Airfields and their aircraft with loadouts: RAF Lossiemouth: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=raf+...ed=0CBIQ_AUoAg
    - If needed, RAF Coningsby: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=raf+...ed=0CBIQ_AUoAg

    * Other land installations (if any): None: Lossiemouth & Coningsby (if necessary) only
    - Can include Kaliningrad if necessary: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=raf+...ed=0CBIQ_AUoAg
But it might be best that the Russian forces are a purely naval force projection for balancing.

    * Victory conditions for each side: At least 60% attrition means that side backs down under political pressure from their home country and the United Nations
    * OPTIONAL: Another Tupolev 95 can be set to head towards Lossiemouth by stealth - if the airbase sustains damage the UK side loses

    * If playable against AI: some overview of aircraft launches and scouting patterns for AI; Initial AI orders for air: (CONFIRM starting - high alt, active radar): Detections are incoming forces towards UK coast towards Lossiemouth/Coningsby and/or Russian Federation forces detect UK air forces scouting the coast and around the battle group if they stray too far towards the Russian incursion forces.

    * Neutral units in mission, if applicable: 1-2 NATO observer units may be included if required: 1x NATO observer ship and 1x Reconnaissance aircraft must not be attacked or the mission is over!

    Thanks,

    fraggdya

    Estonian dawn:

    Time = 2014+
After a renewal of tensions in Estonia with large scale violence between estonians and russians, the russian government has decided to protect the rights of russian estonians by establishing order in this country.
Simultanously with a ground assault, a baltic fleet task force centered around a Mistral class has left Kaliningrad to carry out naval landings on the Gulf of Riga coast to link up with a ground assault from Pskov and to take the island of Ösel.
NATO light infantry units (German and British paratroopers) have been deployed Estonia and are in danger of being cut off.

    Objectives
    Russia:
Get the naval task force in the Gulf of Riga without losing the Mistral or too many escorts. Destroy the NATO airfields at Tartu and Talinn

    NATO:
Prevent a flanking landing in the Gulf of Riga by either sinking russian amphibs or preventing them from entering the Gulf.
Preserve Tartu Airfield and Tallin international as resupply airfields for NATO ground forces in country.

Time of year: Fall. Fair weather typical baltic October temperatures

    Assets:
    Russia:
    - Amphibious landing force
    1 Mistral class LPD
    1 Sovremeny class destroyer
    1 Gorshkov Class frigate (1 Ka-28)
    1 Udaloy I class destroyer (1 Ka-28)
    2 Steregushchiy class corvettes (1 Ka-28)

    3 Lada class SSKs

    Air Assets:
Kaliningrad Chalkovsk: 12-24 Su-27SKs (air supriority)
Pskov Airbase: 12-24 Su-35s (air supriority) and 8-16 MiG-29K (50/50 land attack and naval strike)
(numbers can vary according to balancing issues)
    2 A-50s
    4 Il-78
    4 Il-38s (ASW)
Perhaps leave out Kaliningrad air base to make things less complicated.

    Ground assets:
    S-400 Battalion in Kaliningrad area
Ground based Yakhont unit in Kaliningrad area

    NATO:
    German Navy ASW group:
    1 Sachsen Class Frigate (1 NH90/Sea Lynx)
    2 Brandenburg Class Frigates (2 NH90)

    Polish SAG:
3 Project 206 Vikhr (to simulate polish missile boats)
1 Gawron class (1 Sea Lynx)

    2 Type 212 class submarines

    Air Assets
    Malbork Air Base:
    12-24 JAS 39 Gripen as substitute for polish F-16s (50/50air supremacy/naval strike)
    2 E-3
    4 KC-767
    4 P-3C Orion

    Siauliai Air Base:
    12 Eurofighter Typhoon

Tallin international and Tartu Airfield none, only SAM defenses

    Positions:
Russian Amphib group off the Lithuanian coast heading north at full speed.
    German SAG north of Kaliningrad
Polish SAG a litte farther north, just out of ASM range of amphib group.
Russian subs operating in the same general area as german ships.
German subs patrolling before the Gulf of Riga

    Air ops:
    Russian
    Kaliningrad.
Su-27s conduct BARCAP over the russian amphib group.
Pskov: Su-35 conduct offensive CAP over Estonia/Latvia. MiGs conduct air strikes on estonian airfields
    AEW/Tanker support
Il-38s make ASW patrols over the Gulf of Riga

    NATO:
    Malbork:
Gripens conduct offensive CAP over the Baltic while avoiding Kaliningrad airspace (due to ROEs and S-400s) while conducting strikes against the russian amphib group
    Tankers and AWACs support
Orions support German SAG in ASW operations north of Kaliningrad
    Siauliai
Eurofighters conduct defensive CAP over Estonian airfields and Siauliai

(Scenario would be a lot cooler with some additional units, most notably F-16s)

    Well heres my entry
This is not related to the story of the campaign at all

    Name: Last Line of Defense

Start Date: Saturday May 11, 2030, good weather, some cloud cover over Iceland

Background: Following the Surprise Russian Conquest of Scandinavia and Iceland, the combined NATO naval and air forces engaged the Russian fleet in the Denmark Strait and off the Faroe Islands. The climatic battle that ensued resulted in a tactical and strategic stalemate. The Admiral Kutznetov had to return to port for repairs, and most of the NATO carriers were put out of action. Submarine losses on both sides were heavy too. Strategic bomber attacks damaged ports on both sides delaying many repairs to capital ships. However, both sides retain large amounts of Surface warships and land based aircraft.

The Russians have concluded that they must seize this opportunity to attack and destroy the remaining NATO flotillas before American warships arrive from the Pacific.

The Russians must sail south and destroy the NATO surface ships, as a step toward a possible landing in Scotland.

NATO forces must do what damage they can to the Russian Fleet, but above all, they must survive this battle with at least half of their ships. The US Pacific Fleet is sending three carrier battle groups to the Atlantic, but they will not arrive in the battle area for at least two weeks.

    Objectives:

NATO must have half of its ships afloat, must destroy more than 50% of Russian ships, forcing a withdraw.

Russia is basically the same, must destroy more than 50% of NATO ships, with no more than 50% losses.

Both sides are low on surface to surface missiles, this battle will have to be decided the old fashioned way.............gun vs. gun

Orders of battle (all units are under strength in one way or another)

    NATO:

HMS Queen Elizabeth (the only operational NATO carrier in the Atlantic)
    8 F-35s
    1 UCAV
    1 E2 Hawkeye

    4 Ticonderoga Cruisers
    6 Arleigh Burke destroyers
    1 Brandenburg surface ship
    2 Fridtjof Nansen surface ships
    3 Halifax Surface ships
    3 Type 45 Destroyers
(all of the surface ships have normal helicopter load outs, but are very low on surface to surface missiles).
    2 Virginia Class Submarines
Airbase in Scotland (Normal load out)

    Russia:

    2 Kirov Class battle cruisers
    3 Slava Class cruisers
    5 Udaloy I Class destoryers
    7 Udaloy II class destroyers
(all surface ships have normal helicopter loadouts, but are low on surface to surface missiles)
    2 Akula Class Submarines

1 AirBase in Russian Scandanavia (the one that's always there; regular load out)
1 airbase in Iceland, only 4 Su-50 fighters, one AWACS (already airborne over Iceland) and one refueling tanker

Locations of following unit groups on provided map:

    NATO:

    HMS QE group
    Queen Elizabeth
    2 type 45 destroyers
    2 frijtjof nansen ships
    1 brandenburg ship
    NATO Surface Group 1
    2 Ticonderoga Cruisers
    3 Arliegh Destroyers
    2 Halifax surface ships
    NATO Surface Group 2
    2 Ticonderoga cruisers
    3 Arleigh destroyers
    1 halifax ship
    1 type 45 destroyer

    Russia:

    Russian Surface group 1
    1 Kirov class battle cruiser
    2 Slava cruisers
    5 udaloy 1 destroyers
    Russian surface group 2
    1 kirov class battle cruiser
    1 slava cruiser
    7 udaloy II destroyers
Map (only way i could figure out to post it)
    https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=e9726b9ba6

    AI manuvers:

    NATO:

engages russians with subs and planes from scotland, defends with surface ships

    Russia:

Engages nato surface groups with its surface ships, subs and bombers from scandinavia airbase

    Neutral Units:

A number of civilian airlines taking people who want to leave Europe for Canada until the war is over. Any shooting down of these planes by ether side is a mission failure

    Well theres my scenario

    a couple of final notes:

I would love it if some one came up with a prequel for this, the climactic sea battle described in the background

i used the short unit list here on the forums for the units

i know there isn't much detail with AI maneuvers, i suppose someone would have to figure these out in detail, as i am not that good with naval tactics

    Name: Baltic Storm

Background: In an alternative universe, Finland and Sweden were much quicker to side with Norway in their dispute with Russia. In retaliation, the Russian Baltic fleet sorties from the Gulf of Finland towards Aland, with the goal of cutting Finland off from its trade and supply routes, in order to exert pressure on them to back down. With the bulk of Swedish forces in the North Sea, the limited Allied forces must face down a superior Russian force. Fortunately, Swedens entry into the war has allowed them to prevent any of the large cruisers from joining the Russian Baltic Fleet.

Description: The Russian Baltic fleet must reach the vincinity of the Aland Islands, without loosing the Admiral Gorshkov. Russian forces consist of the Admiral Gorshkov, 3 Steregushchiy class Corvettes and 3 206MR Vikhr FACs, along with one Lada class SSK. Allied forces consist of 4 Finnish Hamina class FACs, 2 Visby class Corvettes, and two Gotland class SSKs. Limited air assets are available to both sides. It is likely that the Allied forces have deployed minefields in the Gulf of Finland to restrict mobility of Russian forces.

    Objectives (Allied):
Prevent Russian forces from exiting the Gulf of Finland.
Ronneby and Såtenäs AB must remain intact.
Do not destroy any Neutral ships or aircraft.

    Objectives (Russian):
Exit the Gulf of Finland and reach Aland.
    Admiral Gorshkov must remain intact.
Pushkin and Soltsy AB must remain intact.
Do not destroy any Neutral ships or aircraft.

    Date/Time: 10th September 2030. 5:00 AM.
    Conditions: Autumn Season. Rough Weather.

    Order of Battle (Allied):

    Name: A cold shoulder

Idea: Danmark is trying to invade Hans Island, but they do not know if the canadians are willing to strike. The canadian player has limited assets and needs to trick the danes fire first before he can fire and should try to provoke an attack by danish forces to give him more time to attack the task force.

    Background:

Hans Island is as of 2022 claimed by both Denmark and Cannada. Since the early 2000 the danes have used small naval assets to plant their flag on the island only to have their flag removed a couple of weeks later. This time however the danish prime minister has made statements of establishing a permanent enviromental control station on the island in order to monitor the increased sea trafic through the north-west passage. It is not clear which assets this control station will have, but a small amphibious force sat sail from copenhagen 14 days ago. The force reached Nuuk yesterday to replenish before the final sprint. The canadian goverment has said that the placement of a permanent buildings on the island is in violation of current treaties and that it will use what force neccecary to prevent the landing.

    Weather: Snow
    Time of day: 08:00

    Description:

Canada: The danes are planning on placing permanent buidlings on the disputed island of Hans. Yesterday evening a task force sat sail from Nuuk, we must prevent it from reaching the north end of baffin bay. Diplomats are trying to find solutions. Cannada does not want to start a war, you are not cleared to fire unless fired upon, but be prepared to engage if the negotiations fail. Furthermore should you be able to provoke the danes into opening fire it will ceraintly help us in the negotioations.

Denmark: You must make sure that the task force reaches the north end of baffin bay within 12 hours. Our intel tells us that the Cannadian government is devided and canadian forces are not cleared to open fire... yet. You are however cleared to fire upon any targets you find threatening or preventing you from reaching your goal.

    Order of battle:

    Cannada:

    airfield:

    SH-60B x1 (asw)
    SH-60B x1 (naval strike)

Naval assets: Halifax frigate w AW159 Lynx Wildcat Helicopter (73.82, -66.79) (+-150km random), first waypoint patrol radius 20km
    Type 212 Submarine (73.82, -66.79) (+- 150km random), first waypoint patrol radius 20km
    Denmark:

    Naval assets: Taskforce Hans (71.074, -61.523 ) (waypoints1: (77.196N , 74.53125 W))

    2x Iver huitfeld with 1x AW101 HM2 Helicopter(asw)
    1x tanker(max speen 12-15 knots)

    airfield:
    Nuuk(Godhåb)
    64° 10' 0? N, 51° 44' 0? W
    airplanes: 1x AW101 HM2 Helicopter(naval strike)

    Neutral:

1 US Virginia class sub at (73.82, -66.79) (+- 100km random), first waypoint patrol radius 50km

2 fishermans boats at (66.826, -57.041) heading north along the coast of greenland

1 fishermans boat at (71.608, -69.16) heading south along the coast of canada

1 fishermans boat at ( 73.602, -58.97) heading south along the coast of greenland

    Mission goals:

Cannada: Prevent the Tanker and the Absalon from reaching the northern end of Baffin bay(77.196N , 74.53125 W).
Do not open fire until fired upon.
Do not sink any neutral units

Denmark: Ensure that the tanker and the Absalon reaches the norther end of Baffin bay(77.196N, 74.53125 W). Within 12h.
Do not sink any neutral units

Event triggers: After 6h the rules of engagements for the Canadian side changes to weapons free. If possible randomize to +-2hours.
If above trigger is not possible draw a line at 74.0195N and change ROE when Absalon or tanker crosses this line.
If fired upon rules of engagements for canadian side changes to weapons free.

Angry A bear with a sore paw

Here is another scenario inspired by real world events - In this case:- Russia's displeasure at US deployment of a ballistic missile shield. The 'provocative exercise' scenario draws parallels with Cold War exercises such as Able Archer 83.

    * Name: A bear with a sore paw

    * Description: The USA has slowly continued with ballistic missile shield deployment despite grave Russian concern. In a brazen move - The U.S. Navy have announced 'Continuous Arctic Exercises' in the Barents/Norwegian Sea. Russia has pointed out that these 'Continuous Exercises' consist of a carrier group with Ticonderoga cruisers with anti-ballistic missile capabilities - and that they have no choice but to destroy them due to U.S. refusal on talks regarding the issue.

    * Time of year and day: July, 2015 (Can be later if necessary)
    * Good Weather
    * Specify the two sides: USA, Russia

    * Order of battle (groups and units) with destinations or patrol radius: Russian Federation heads towards US Carrier Strike Group in the Barents/Norwegian Sea: USA commits 1x Virginia class & 1x Ohio subs, 1 Ticonderoga class, Nimitz class carrier, F-35's, F-18's E3 Sentry AWACS, ASW Seahawks, ASW P8A Poseidons, and M47B Pegasus UCAVs in response to an appropriately balanced Russian Federation Force, which should include waves of naval strike forces which must be repelled/destroyed.

    * The position of all groups/units: US Carrier Strike Group is in the Barents/Norwegian Sea. Russian Naval Strike Waves are headed towards the carrier group with an appropriately balanced naval fleet.
    * Carried aircraft on all ships that can carry them, if different
from default, including weapon loads: Default, other than those specified.

    * Airfields and their aircraft with loadouts: possibly Kaliningrad to deploy carrier strike waves. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=raf+...ed=0CBIQ_AUoAg
Another airfield may be used to give a good volume of strike waves.

    * Other land installations (if any): None

    * Victory conditions for each side: USA must destroy all incoming (escorted) carrier strike waves with no more than 5 aircraft lost, Russia must sink the Ticonderoga and the Nimitz to win. (flexible on this for balancing)

    * If playable against AI: some overview of aircraft launches and scouting patterns for AI; Initial AI orders for air: (attack waves should be as covert as possible): Detections are incoming forces towards USA carrier group in various directions and altitudes (in the case of aircraft) from Russia. USA forces are simply staged in the Barents/Norwegian Sea.

    * Neutral units in mission, if applicable: None

    Thanks,

    fraggdya

This is a classic sub-hunt scenario loosely based on the following story from a while ago.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8589507.stm

I don't mind some flexibility in the scenario e.g. location, some units - to make for a thrilling sub-hunt.

    * Name: Best Served Cold

    * Description: Tensions between the USA and the Russian Federation have risen exponentially since the US dollar lost its status as the world's reserve currency in 2014. US Exploratory teams have confirmed massive natural resources in the arctic circle which has caught the attention of the federation. A Russian Akula class submarine has torpedoed a powerful and expensive exploratory frigate in a daring "Hands off" statement, banking on a lack of proof - and a lack of US will to retaliate. However: British Intelligence have an approximate location of the submarine from high value assets in the Kremlin: and have passed this location to the CIA. A small covert unit have been dispatched with orders to destroy the submarine quickly and quietly with maximum prejudice.

    * Time of year and day: October, Monday 11th 2015+
    * Fair/Rough weather
    * Specify the two sides: USA, Russia

    * Order of battle (groups and units) with destinations or patrol radius: Russian Federation starts in scenario location (roughly) : USA commits 1x Attack subs, small ASW capability from a low profile frigate

    * The position of all groups/units: All centred around Arctic Circle seas
    * Carried aircraft on all ships that can carry them: small number of low profile ASW assets

    * Airfields and their aircraft with loadouts: None unless a neutral base is needed to launch a mission.

    * Other land installations (if any): None

    * Victory conditions for each side: USA must destroy the Akula class submarine, USA must not lose any units
    * OPTIONAL: No civilian units must detect the covert USA task force

    * If playable against AI: some overview of aircraft launches and scouting patterns for AI; Russian sub is lurking, starts at the last known position as discussed in the scenario. US covert unit is approaching it, may have to avoid witness units.

    * Neutral units in mission, if applicable: To add difficulty, civilian 'witness' units can be added which must not detect the covert task force.

    Thanks,

    fraggdya
