holy war CB as ethiopia

i don't get the holy war cb as ethiopia, although the mamelucks for example keep on declaring the jihad on me :/
has that something to do with the oriental orthodox'? seems a little bit unfair to me, that they can use it and i can't

I too have a game in progress as Ethiopia, and was disappointed by the lack of a holy war CB. My solution was to start a ridiculous war with a catholic state and offer forced conversion. Things went much more swimmingly after that.

E: i just fixed (or modded as it isn't a real bug) it in the mod/meiou/common/cb_types.txt
you just change the holy_war to that:

cb_crusade = {

It would be quite difficult to switch back later, but holy wars don't last past 1600, so one could keep an oriental orthodox vassal around until then. That would be a lot of provinces to convert twice, and I couldn't be bothered to do all that for such a small difference.

The event has been coded this way because historically, it's mainly the catholics and muslims that declared war for religious reasons.

The problem is that i thought that the entry "mutual = yes" meant that the CB was ... mutual, and therefore you could retaliate. I'll have to work on it.

I don't quite understand. Are Christians, other than Catholics, meant to be able to declare holy wars? If so, perhaps a separate CB would a good idea. It could be limited to use against neighboring Muslim states etc.

No, I cannot. However, the current situation is such that Catholicism has significant game-mechanic advantages over its fellow Christian churches. Between the bonuses from monasteries and holy wars there's very little incentive to stay Orthodox. I also think it's a little odd that Orthodox Christians would need extra justification to fight the Ottoman's expansion.

The "mutual" thing means that if they declare holy war on you, you get the holy war costs (1 infamy per province) instead of the defender costs (3 infamy per province) in the peace resolution if you win. It doesn't let you declare war on them (the reconquest cb has "mutual = yes" and letting you declare war on everyone you own a core of would be silly).

How can you give Orthodoxy nations back holy war? I mean i can appreciate the historical aspect of it but the practical implications is that Orthodoxy nations can more easily declare war upon Heretics aka Catholics than Byzantines more traditional enemies the Muslims.

As well as the whole Taking the faith to the infidel thing as Defender of the Faith doesnt make any sense now since it basically builds upon the foundation that you can declare holy war. The entire change just makes declaring war to get back the holy places of Othodoxy far harder without stability hits.

I got bored and tried to make it mutual. Testing suggests it works.

Anyhow, the changes allow anyone that's targetable by a holy to declare them on the potential holy warriors.
The exception is that it's only for border conflicts. I don't even wanna think about how to script retaliatory overseas holy wars.

The altered CB I posted allows Dharmic states to declare holy war on any neighboring Catholic or Muslim states before 1600.
